@TotalDance2011 Well said - only in the UK is she viewed in such a bad light - evry foreign person I have spoke to thought she was great. She held their respect & stood up for our rights in Europe
Such a tragedy for Margaret Thatcher when talking about Ronald that in later years suffered from the same condition. God rest both of them both true American and British patriots for freedom for liberty, and of course against tyranny.
I wish Thatcher and Reagan were here to fight terrorism today. Oh, Lord I wish they were still around. Thatcher would mop the floor with them and Reagan would put 'em in the ground. Love them or hate them, they were an effective team.
I don’t like some of the things she did and that’s OK but I have enormous respect for her. She had courage in her convictions & is stronger than any western leader I’ve seen since.
Yes they sure knew how to deal with terrorists. They gave them weapons (Afghan Mujahideen > Taliban) and supported their states (Pinochet in Chile). What a fantastic duo!
@arranle Her wit and eloquence and ability to rule over the profusion of male politicians is impressive; but, she seemed like a scariful Reagan. I absolutely cannot believe she supported Pinochet.
I can agree that the world needs Thatcher currently but not Reagan. He put Saddam Hussein in power and gave weapons to the Mujaheddin in Afghanistan during the Soviet occupation of the country. Some of the Mujaheddin later went onto form the Taliban. Reagan did some great things in office but he also did quite a few bad things.
Mistakes.....She Couldn't think of any, let me help her.... Poll Tax, De-Industrialisation over a short time period, Privatisation of the Railways, Massive Under-funding of the NHS & Public Services, Westland, Supporting Pinnochet, Militant Eurosceptism.......please add more!
While I admire them, Reagan and Thatcher cannot be given credit for the fall of communism. The USSR was headed that way anyways. Additionally, I seriously doubt that either leader had the broad vision needed to understand the causes of terrorism. Additionally, had they not been so gungho in supporting the Afghan freedom fighters during the 1980s, the War on Terror would not have happened. Rather than being an effective team which would "mop 'em and put 'em in the ground", they caused it.
