Thank you for this video. She was an amazing woman in whom the people of Russia loved her when she became part of the Romanov dynasty. I have heard of her and have read one book about her. This video helps to bring Maria in to focus of who she was as a person and her abilities of what she was capable of doing. She was a much love woman.

Hi Jon! Russian royals is an area of history I know almost nothing about, so thank you for highlighting this fascinating Lady! It's a marvel to see how your channel has grown! @@HistoryRoadshow I enjoy them immensely, Jon! I feel a sort of privilege to have watched you grow your channel. You demonstrate such sensitivity towards the historical plight of women we would never otherwise be aquainted with, and those who were historically maligned by the men, recording the history at the time. You bring light to dark corners. Not all women have been, or are worthy in the end, but I love history presented in balance and with reasonable perspective. It's a load of work! I put up 2 shorts, and it was terrifying! One got screwed up beyond repair. I have 4 more in the wings, but am really nervous about not having an undo option! I may just do real ghost stories this month, since they occurred in December. 😅 I look forward to your next video!

IfNicholas II had followed the wise advice of his mother many times the history of Russia would have been far different than what took place in1917. Secondly, if Alexander III had only trained his heir to be a Czar, the history of Russia might have been much different as the leadership of Nicholas II was weak and indecisive. Third, his marriage to his wife was a love match, but tragic in almost every other way. Alexandria should have stayed out of politics; and, tried hardier to endear herself to the Russian people. Still, as a family man, Nicholas II was outstanding. The family were faithful and devoted Orthodox Christians. They loved Russia/her people. It is most fitting that their memory is honored and even revered today. The cruel rulers who came after Nicholas II were indeed worthy of the names "bloody and cruel," that put Russia through a horrible Civil War as thousands fled West; and, only today can historians see the beginnings of healing for Russia.
@michaelflick1177

Nicholas was far better prepared to be Tsar than his father. It is a myth that Nicholas was not trained.

Beautiful intro! and beautiful subject I literally let put a "Yay!!History Roadshow Does Dagmar of Denmark/Maria Feoderovna!!" (Absolutely 0 pun intended. I just..like her) I also think Thyra was a bit prettier and also a remarkable candidate for obesity of your subject's. She did the absolute u think able for Royal Ladies and still a great Dynastic Marriage. (Well, the best Dynasty that was left lol.) I also find it fascinating how she and Mary of Teck were en fianced to the Heirs, both died and they married the next Heirs. And genuinely fell in love meaning I don't think Alexander 3rd and Henry V genuinely loved them back i.e. no know mistresses. 🎉 I just can't say enough wonderful things about your films..your work.

Why did Queen Victoria have a poor opinion of Russians?
@michaelflick1177
@michaelflick1177 8 месяцев назад
Russia was a bloody autocracy. The Romanovs thought the country was there for them rather than realising they were there to serve the people. Queen Victoria saw the Russian throne as inherently unstable. She was not wrong. Political assassination occurred regularly. Alexander II was a prime example. Countless ministers and officials were murdered during the reign of Nicholas II.
@williamcordasco945
@williamcordasco945 7 месяцев назад
That phobia remains today; maybe after the losses in the Crimean War. Generally, the English had and have low opinions of most foreigners. This is not a pit down, as I am somewhat of an Anglophile, but also a Russophile. Peace.
