Today was one of those pinch me days! Opening the @clevelandclinic Women’s Comprehensive Health and Research Center is a dream come true. We’ve been working on this for several years, and seeing it come to life… well it’s beyond exhilarating! We spent the day meeting doctors, patients, navigators, caregivers, community leaders, you name it. Everyone was so excited!
This center will be home to women of all ages, all races, all ethnicities. It will pay special attention to women at midlife, who are usually forgotten or are invisible. 6000 women enter menopause every day. They need help! 63 million women in this country are 50 and up. 80% of women 50 and over have at least one chronic condition (such as asthma, cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease). 1/3 of women over 65 are widowed. In total, we are more than 165 million women in the US alone, and we all face different challenges. This center is focused on helping as many of us as possible!
I envision every state building its own comprehensive women’s health center. I envision more women joining in research. And as always, I envision finding out why women are 2/3 of those with Alzheimer’s, especially to be helped with the amazing expansion of the Women’s Alzheimer’s Movement Prevention center. It’s big day, the end of a long haul, and the first of a new chapter! Let’s go! #womenshealthmatters
