Mr.Sargant Shriver was a great man he deserved so much credit for the famous helpful organzations he started.Plus being agreat husband and father etc and great man of God!
This is merely an observation. My parents, of the same generation as Sargent Shriver, were daily Mass attendants. They were two of the happiest people I ever knew. I only wish I. Outdoor have been so happy.
I didn't agree with quite a bit of his politics in terms of policies, but he seemed like a very nice, genuine, and intelligent man who conveyed optimism and would debate you on the merits of your ideas rather than going nasty and personal. I think he was far more in line with average people than the Kennedy brothers and was driven more by a sense of conviction for what he was doing rather than the allure of stature and power compared to the Kennedy brothers. It's a shame that the powerful forces within the Kennedy family inner circle blocked him from getting a VP nomination, not once, but twice (1964 and 1968) because they wanted the presidency to stay within the bloodline. I watched the PBS bio on him that is also on You Tube and the sense of optimism that was conveyed in the early 1960s with the Peace Corps was something to behold, and he seems to have done a magnificent job with it. The War on Poverty was another matter though. He was a devout Catholic and both he and wife, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, were Pro-Life Democrats up until the end- probably the last or among the last ones.
bxktd Once you account for low-income immigrants, the war on poverty has cut poverty in half. It also started under Kennedy under the name of the new frontier.
bxktd Last pro-life Democrat? 22% of democrats are pro-life. Many democratic politicians deeply want to reduce the number of abortions and their policies have been proven to do this. The constitution gives women privacy and cannot force them to give a voluntary service like pregnancy to someone else. That is a form of slavery. We should have a government effort to create artificial incubation so all fetuses are saved, just as president Kennedy’s fight to put a man on the moon.
How beautiful. I loved both of them but I loved Ms. Eunice better because I heard somewhere that she always called out Ethel Kennedy. And I love a good call out. RIP to both Mr. And Mrs. Shriver. ✝️✝️
Amazing he was such a good man yet his daughter married a man who cheated on her and betrayed her.I guess people don't always find people like there parents.
Headstart was not as good an education for poor children. The quality was not there compared to private or kindergarten educations. Many Headstart children were kept back in first or second grades of regular schools.
Well, thank goodness that his children got the Shriver looks. The Shriver children are much more attractive than Ethel's kids. Although he accomplished a lot in his professional life, I don't respect him because he treated the help like crap. He spoke down to the help, very patronizing, and acted like he was better thank the help. Therefore, I don't respect the man!
Spencer Pierce Yes, he absolutely did. Very condescending, very demanding, and very rude. He may have did quite a few great things, but being married to Eunie was like being married to a whirlwind! He served the Kennedy Family first, always, then his own. And yes, I completely agree, behind the scenes, esp the way he spoke to the help that didn’t even work for him, he was bad! He’d even make fun of their conscientiousness to do a good job! Terrible man to work for! Or if you were unlucky enough to be just the help of a household he was visiting!
@@kdfulton3152 I read Barbara Gibson's book "Life With Rose Kennedy", she describes Sarge Shriver as very rude and belittling to the help. Her book was very balanced and not a hit job. You should read it and decide for yourself before attacking others. This reveals more to me than public appearances. Once the cameras aren't around, how you treat people that work for you or others is a true testament of one's character,
@@spencerpierce1251 Funny, I read that Ethel Kennedy was like that and was also racist. In fact, while her brother in law, Peter Lawford, was visiting her one day, he saw her berate one of the maids over throwing some trash away. She proceeded to use the n-word and fired her. She was also overheard by other staff as saying "black people are stupid", as well as not liking Hispanics. What a hypocrite for pretending to support equal rights, while being a closet racist.
He was not a liberal when it came to being a pro life Democrat. Today there is no such person allowed in that party. He was a good man who prayed the Rosary every day. Rest In Peace.
@@barbararenner5473 True, very true. Back in his younger political years in the 60's and 70's a democratic politician could be economically liberal and socially conservative such as on the issue of abortion. However, not in these modern times. Nowadays, a democratic politician has to be 100% pro-choice or else he or she can never expect to be elected to a political office in the party.
IF ONLY HE KNEW WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO THE DISAPPEARING MIDDLE CLASS TODAY YOU ARE EITHER POOR OR RICH THE DEMOCRATS WANT TO GET RID OF THE ONCE POWERFUL MIDDLE CLASS.
