This interview is old, but I thought the interviewer did a fantastic job of not oversexualizing this 20 yrld MC. He really came off as respectful of her craft and in awe of her skill and talents. Even when ge touched on personal life , he did so very respectfully even for this day and age. Well done interviewer.
Mariah Carey was the best vocalist in the 1990's. Her debut album in 1990 is still my favorite. "There's Got to be a Way" and "Vanishing" are two of my fave songs on the album. Don't know why they were not released as singles. I wish she would return to her earlier style. Missing the 1990's Mariah!!

She does sound so mature, classy and elegant. Overall so well spoken. I wish people would conduct themselves more like this nowadays. It's just my opinion but I highly dislike how uneducated youngsters sound nowadays.

She just seemed more down to earth back in the early 90s.. more focused on her music - her voice, writing new material etc.. it seemed like it was all about the music back then and that's what i love. This was now 32 years ago. I had a crush on her very early on. It actually started with her Christmas album. But it's crazy to think there was a time that she wasn't well known and almost nobody knew who she was. But yeah she always seemed very mature, even back then.
Actually it was Whitney Houston’s mother hitting the high note in the background of Aint No Way by Aretha. I remember these days. This is how she looked when I saved up coins as a teen to buy her debut album.
I really liked Mariah when she first came out. Vision of Love remains my all-time Mariah Carey song. Ah, JHS puberty days. Girls were looking better than transformers then. Lol!
That's off. She's not trying to dumb her self down, and the way she portrays herself now didn't start in 2005, it began back around 1997-1999 She just has an eccentric personality that's all. And as she became less controlled by her label, she was able to show it off more. :)

They have control over what she releases, but not over how she portrays herself. Even when you listen to the stories of her high school years, they fit more so with the Mariah we see today, then the 1990 Mariah. Skipping class, wearing provocative dresses, throwing beer-parties. That's Mariah.

I love Mariah to this day but I do miss this humble demeanor. It's crazy how even coming from such poor and troubling beginnings, she still managed to become out of touch. Don't get me wrong, she's still a sweet person with a heart of gold but it's fascinating how celebrity can make you out of touch no matter what.

Don't you think it's interesting how Mariah talks about how she's always been grown-up for her age, but now in interviews, she always say she's eternally 12?
