After having such a success with The Emancipation Of Mimi, I imagine her just flying to Capri to take a break, somewhere tropical, and just recording this album for fun. She was basically on top of the world at this point- her body was snatched, she “proved” herself again to the public eye, and she was soooo in love 🥰 Love this album! x
at 23:46 when she says “you never got to see me back at #1” she was talking about her dad that passed away during the glitter era when her career wasn’t doing so well.. but she came back in 2005 with The Emancipation of MiMi & stayed #1 for 14 weeks

e=mc2 is a grower, i think! back when i had just started getting into MC's discography (baby lamb days), i liked e=mc2 but i prefered other albums like the debut or butterfly. over time, i've grown to appreciate the songs in here, and to be honest, i think mariah was really exploring other genres and productions when making this album, relying more on lyrical and vocal arrangements and not so much on her vocal range. my top 5 in this album are: 1. i wish you well 2. 4real4real 3. side effects 4. i'm that chick 5. i stay in love
P.S. personally I like her album Memoirs a bit more than this album and I can't wait for you to hear it. It wasn't as successful as her previous work but it's an album that has a solid r&b/hip hop sound and it's sounds different from her previous work. It's an underrated project for sure.
I love this album because it's harder, the hip-hop beats get heavier here and I adore how she can go from darkness (Side Effects) to absolute bliss (I'll be loving u long time) and she sounds amazing and true on both. From what I've been gathering, you appreciate lighter more sparse production, but this record was meant to be played on Jeeps (her words, lol).
Love story is about her & Nick I’ll be lovin you long time is my favorite song from this song I really enjoy your breakdown of each song I’m interested to see your next reaction b/c memoirs is such a moody album so either really enjoy it or dislike it’s really no in between I love the fact that Mariah has such expansive catalog that she can reference her own songs

Ok, So Here we're at E=MC², Which at this point in her Life and Career shes coming off her Adventures of Mimi Tour in her Mid 30s , feeling Good ,Free & Centered. This is the point where She and Nick Cannon Were Coupling 🥰💞🥰 and Eventually Eloped (While on Location for the Video, BYE BYE). This album is Adventurous, Light and more Whimsical 🤔🤔 with music styles. Touch My Body was her 18th #1, Only to he Overthrown in 2019/20 by .... HERSELF 🤭🤣🤣 w/ All I Want For Xmas (#19) 25 years after it's release. I'm That Chick (Samples part of Michael Jackson's song P.Y.T ) Loving You Long Time (Samples 80s artists, Debarge's , Stay With Me) Overall IMHO This project is a 7.5 Outta 10. Its not a Typical Power Ballad or Production Masterpiece, but Instead a Light-hearted Display of Musical Adventures (Some Hit /Some Miss) but because she was In Love , it was a Fun Experience. Btw in this Era , MOTHAAA IS SNATCHED , BODY -ODY-ODYYYYYY.
You are so on point with your reactions! That’s why I love watching! This is not one of my fav album of hers, I feel like almost all of the productions are very 2008, very dated. My top 5: 1. For The Record (amazing production and vocals, and incredible lyrics); 2. Side Effects (that one hits hard, the lyrics are very strong); 3. Touch My Body (great mid-tempo); 4. I’m That Chick (you were right about the weed stuff lol, also that excerpt from MJs Off The Wall is just amazing! You’ll love You Don’t Know What To Do from “Me, I Am Mariah”, has the same vibe); 5. Heat/4real4real (yes, both bonus tracks are way better than the official tracklist lol, you should listen to that, she just released on streaming services). Can’t wait for your next reaction!
I agree! The production was perfect for that era, but it didn’t age too well imo. But I’m still mad they didn’t choose the right singles for this album bcos there were several songs that could’ve been hits in 2008 on this album 😭

A lot of the extra sounds/layers to the songs were a product of the time: it was the popular sound back in 2008. Also, bye bye has some sad lyrics, but I feel like the sound wants you to feel uplifted. It was my fav song growing up.

This album could’ve been so much bigger (even though it was pretty big) if she had made just a few tweaks. Last Kiss is my least fave and kinda gets lost in the middle of the other ballads at that part of the album. Thanx 4 Nothin was a grower for me and is one of my faves now. I wish she had removed JD’s voice off it. The belting at the end is super emotional. Also one of the contending titles for the album was ‘That Chick’. Definitely one of the best songs too, along with For the Record for me. I love how she references all her old songs in For the Record too. She holds the whistle in FTR for 18 seconds I believe. One of her longest notes on record. IBLYLT just makes you feel so good. If you get time watch the Love Story acoustic performance on MTV where she’s in a red dress. I wish that’s what the album version was more like.
Oooh, earlier than expected! Soooo this and Memoirs are my absolute least favorite Mariah albums. I don't need either one. Hard to say, but I seldom return to them. The good, I treasure I Wish You Well. It's one of my absolute favorite Mariah songs. Other highlights, I'll Be Lovin U Long Time. I'm That Chick, I'd love more if it were fuller, but otherwise, spot on. Minority opinion, OOC is a bop. The other ballads are reductive. The "fun," arrangements, and trendy production haven't aged well for me. More than anything, I'm glad she changed course with the second Christmas album, Elusive Chanteuse (!!!!!), and Caution. All three of those are albums I love.
We all, lambs or not, expect it to be like TEOM part 2, as she put out, but it is not! I feel it's the extreme opposite. And I don't say it in a bad way. I wish the single releases for this album would have been: 1. Touch My Body 2. Migrate 3. For the Record 4. Im That Chick 5. I'll be Lovin U Long Time This is one of the worst album single rollouts of her career IMO, which I always blame on her label (or the powers that be). Their choices left me with a big question mark over my head.
This album doesn't live up to the grandiosity of TEOM but I still love it. it's not my favorite album but it has some solid songs. My favorite songs on the album are I wish you well, I stay in love, and For the record. Migrate is not a fav but it's definitely a good song. She uses autotune on the song only because T-Pain is known for his use of autotune even though If you ever hear T Pain sing live he sounds great. He definitely doesn't need it. Mariah loves to match her features and give them respect by copying their styles. Some of the beats that were used on this album didn't match the content of the song which is an issue I had with them too but the song writing and the message were solid. Bye Bye is about her father and her still coping with the fact that he passed away and that he didn't get to see her enjoy the success she had after his death. For the record is so good I love that song and the whistle tone on the song is an unbelievable 18 seconds. I wish you well is such a powerful gospel ballad it really puts me in the spirit and its really uplifting even though I'm not religious I cant help but feel the message and her delivery. She also has some bonus tracks from this album that are really good like Heat featuring Will.I.am and 4real 4real featuring Da Brat.
I like this album more than TEOM/2005, however, I think the singles were poorly chosen. If Mariah and her team had chosen the right singles, this album would have been more successful than the previous. My first single from this album would undoubtedly be Migrate followed by Touch my Body, For the Record, I'm That Chick and to finish, Thanx 4 Nothin' or Last Kiss

I actually love this album a lot. If only she toned down the production of some songs a little bit, this would be a great album. I still wish songs like Bye Bye, Last Kiss and Thanx 4 Nothin' focused more on the vocals. The beat of those songs were too heavy, and Jermaine Dupri talking in the background (Last Kiss, Thanx 4 Nothin') was unnecessary.
No, Doja Cat's song (which I don't know what is lol) is similar to Mariah's "I'm that chick", it came out years before, just for the record 👌🏻 pun intended 😅
