Reaction to Mariah Carey - E=MC2 

Before the album release, Mariah would always say TEOM was the main and E=MC2 is the dessert.. which I think sums it up nicely.

Bye bye is also a huge hit in the philippines. Even big boys played it non stop

I had the same reaction to this album as you did. It felt very polished and a little too much like every song was made to be a single. But it has grown on me a lot. It’s a very fun album. And “I Wish You Well” gives you the vulnerable personal side of her.

The interesting thing is that E=MC2 generates a much bigger impact in non-West countries. I came from China and MC is huge here but two of her biggest hits are actually I Stay in Love and Bye Bye from this album. Given the fact that these two performed just mediocre in the U.S. and contrast is really intriguing. Guess the dance/pop element of the album really shines in its own way.

I was 8 years old when this album came out and I still have fond memories of Migrate, Touch my body, I stay in love and Bye bye being massive hits in the Philippines those songs were everywhere back then 🔥

Migrate....on repeat when the album came out going to work haha, I LOVED it.Side effects: for me, one of her best ones in terms of lyrics, the story telling there is just insane. I'm that chick: Club beat 100%, that was one of my songs during the pandemic!! How come that one did not go to number 1, I don't know. I'll be loving you time, gives me summer cool vibes. The rythm in OOC is so much fun, I like it. HAHAHA so glad you got all the references in "For the record", that blew my mind the first time I heard it 🙂 Bye bye; it is genius from Mariah to be able to touch on such a complicated matter the way she did. And the lines: And you never got a chance to see how good I've done And you never got to see me back at number one This all in reference to her father (who past during Charmbracelet, after the glitter fiasco) not seing her back at number one with We belong together...I get emotional with this. It is true what you say, this album is 90% about the beats, not just the voice, which we need to appreciate, so I totally get your comment Trè, although she gave us "I Wish you well" (which was also for Tommy). And on a final note, my unpopular opinion: did not care for the bonus tracks....sue me haha.Thanks for posting, you are now part of what makes Mondays good

E=MC² era was abruptly ended becoz of Nick Cannon

I Wish You Well and Mine Again (TEOM) are both collab with the great pianist Mike Poser. He says he came with ideas but she just wanted him to play around while she was adlibing and creating melodies. That's how these songs turned out to be so iconic.

Top 5, maybe top 3, albums for me. E (emancipation) = MC (Mariah Carey) 2 (to the second power) is what the title means. Definitely listen to it again and pay attention to the lyrics. They are heavy and deep in contrast with the club beats just hits deep and hard.

I feel like with this album it’s easier for me to go listen to it compared to TEOM in the sense that you kinda have to be in the right mood for TEOM. EMC2 is much more relaxed and vibey also having experienced the album when it came out might give me a bias towards it 😂

I was already a Mariah fan as a kid but just at the surface level. However, when this album dropped while I was in the 6th grade is when I discovered the existence of the lambs so I always mark it as the time I became a member of the lambily 😭 🐑

A very fitting day for this to come out as this era officially started 16 years ago TODAY with the release of Touch My Body”. I think the album has aged very well, and it’s very much a fun spring/summer record. Overall, the era is very bittersweet as everything was here for this era to fully cement her again commercially in a big way…and that didn’t exactly happen for various reasons. 😂 But that’s okay. Will always have those what-ifs though…

E=MC2 is probably my most listened to album of Mimi. I loooove it long time 4real. Most often, even on my favorite albums (Butterfly and Caution), there's those tracks I just skip over. But not on this little gem. She had her second coming with TEOM and afforded herself to be experimental and bold, and I admire the way she reinvents her voice through both changing soundscapes and vocal challenges.

The next album is an experience and is in my top 3 mc album!!! Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel!!! Her pin game is on fire!!!!!

Energy equals mass times the speed of light squared is Mariah's cheeky tribute to her Emancipation's award-winning, songwriting formula - the sequel 😮 We Belong Together was such an incredible smash & its twin Don't Forget About Us, (which also went to #1) that on this album we get about 6 more variations: I stay in love, love story, bye bye, thanx 4 nuttin', last kiss, for the record - all following that winning yet sometimes watered down formula. You can't blame her for tryin'. Still thou there's enough other great songs on here that make this album noteworthy. I especially love the Cumbia of O.O.C. and the pen game of For the record. ❤🎉😊

I’ actually offended you didn’t like Side Effects. The woman poured her heart right there for you to completely overlook it. Even Rolling Stones, who never praise MC, said it was one of the best on the album. Well, to each their own.

I clearly remember this Era cause Mariah & Nick were on the cover of People Magazine as they had just gotten married. During the production of the music videos (Love Story and Bye Bye) . They got married in the Bahamas during this time. Surprising everyone in the crew and their friends that had come along for the trip (including Da Brat)

I'll Be Loving U Long Time was in the Adam Sandler flick Don't Mess With The Zohan where Mariah makes a brief cameo and the track is played at the very end of the movie. Adam also wears a shirt of Mariah throughout the whole film.

Fun album! (I wish you well is a fave), many potential great tracks, what I remember was that Mariah kinda suddenly disappear at the peak of promo time for this then-new album, to get married. And from then on, I can feel that her work/career somehow was not the top-top priority for her life anymore. (this was just a feeling I got being as a lamb from day 1)

When this album came out, it actually had better reviews than TEOM.

I thought this album had some of her most clever writing and overall fun songs. She didn't do TOO many ballads and I think that fit where she was in that era, especially the extra tracks!!! Yas mama

I'll still never understand why "Migrate" couldn't just be a single, it had #1 hit written all over it. "Bye Bye" is sweet and all, but never should have taken priority over that song, "Side Effects" or "For the Record". "Bye Bye" easily could have been a nice way to end the E=MC² era

This is my least favorite Mariah album. I think TEOM had great success and they wanted to capitalize on it. Still AMAZING albums coming soon, Memoirs, Me I am Mariah, and the 2nd christmas album are CRAZY good. Can't wait for you to listen to the Rarities too, with the left off tracks from each era. Im sorry but you need to listen to this album several times, cause the songs you liked the least are the better ones. Fkn last kiss is a masterpiece!!!!! Is THE vocal and emotional song fav amongst the lambily One of her best songs ever, and heat is pure hoodriah and I love it, and for real for real ugh is the real deal!!!, for the record amazing lyrics and longest whistle ever!!!! And Migrate is just the best get ready to party song, itll get you to work from home and back.

Yeah this album was not really my fav either! But some tracks was good! The next album MOAIA not a fan fav of mine either! Standing O & Up Out My Face were my favs and a few more. But I’ll wait for your thoughts tho!

Memoirs of an imperfect angel is a cohesive album it’s definitely autumn time record. It’s all about the story telling

Mariah doesn't have a bad album, but E=MC² is one of my least favorite albums besides Rainbow and MIAMTEC. The production is too heavy, and i hate JD's rantings in some songs. I Stay In Love remains one of my favorite songs of all time, though. I also think For The Record, I'm That Chick, Touch My Body, I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time, I Wish You Well, and Bye Bye are the highlights of this album. Cruise Control, 4real4real, and Migrate are enjoyable, too. Love Story and Thanx 4 Nothin' had potentials if the intruments were stripped down and she added bigger vocals. Cool On You from The Rarities was more fitting to be in this album than the rest of the songs that i didn't mention. I think you'll enjoy Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel more. That album is a masterpiece from the beginning to the end.

Now I gotta look up another Bible verse 🤣🤣 side note: it took me awhile to appreciate For The Record. It is one of my favorite MC songs

I think I heard Mariah say in an interview once that Last Kiss is her favorite song on the album. I kinda agree with you though. Musically it comes off a bit bland, and there are far more interesting songs on the record.

About side effects i think it's a grower. And I think the production is more up beat to match the album and I like Young Jeezy's verse but I get that you didn't like it it's ok. But the pen was PENNING. For me it's a skipless album, I really love it

I agree she went too far with trying to showcase the “emancipation” when in reality truly she didn’t need it! Her voice emancipates her, that’s what we all love about her what she can do with her voice around the music and i feel this album the music/ production took over her voice and sadly it stays like this thereafter this album! butterfly and the emancipation were the perfect formulas but she took it too far with the beats all over every song me i am Mariah she regained some common ground but it had its flaws too

Dude, it's not possible that you weren't excited about Last Kiss, it's certainly one of the best on the album, especially from the middle to the end of the song, where it starts to rise in tone, it's too beautiful...... 👎🏼👎🏼

This is definitely my least favorite Mariah album. I can’t wait for you to listen to Me. I Am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse!!! Cry is a beautiful piano ballad. Faded is my favorite, The whole album is phenomenal. In my opinion Me. I Am Mariah is her last album besides MCII where she is singing like the rent is due and she has something to prove.
