Back then, a lot of people wanted to end Mariah's career, and we think they paid critics to say that she was done, that she no longer had any hope in the industry. This album is one of her best lyrically, her voice was fiery!
Charmbracelet is so underrated, mariah put so much emphasis on harmonies and vocal layering, Lullaby, Clown, My Saving Grace and You have your chance have a lot of VERY low notes in the background for example. The album brings the summer, the sun and an orange atmosphere to my ears, it's so fresh and full of secrets. Love you reaction as always y aprecio las pequeñas frases en español (also don't forget to react to secret love, sprung and when I feel it in the next album)
This Mariah album, one of my favs regardless of what the idiotic critics say, is sort of a catharsis album following her breakdown. Her voice on this album is phenomenal she delivered some of her strongest vocals since the early 90s. Her song writing is top tier and very introspective. It's considered her second most lyrical after Butterfly. The One was supposed to be a single but was replaced as a single by Boy(I need you). She garnered no number ones but Through The Rain should have been a number one for sure but it is a huge single in places like Brazil and The Philippines. My Saving Grace is literally my Saving grace. That song is so uplifting and so powerful and I'm not even religious but it has me feeling the spirit every time. It's one of Mariah's best gospel songs. Lullaby is the sequence to The Roof from Butterfly with immaculate lyrics vocals and production. Subtle Invitation is Mariah just going TF off. She slaughters those hig notes at the end. The critics obviously didn't know what tf they were talking about. This album is truly an underrated gem.
OMG YOU'RE RIGHT watch the "Boy (I Need You)" music video, even the aesthetic was ahead of time and fits today. There was a tweet talk about this and blew up. She brought japanese aesthetic anime (?) and a hot japanese guy lol without (what's the word) doing cultural appropriation something like that.
You really deliver with your Mariah's reactions, it is always a joy to watch you get immerse in what we lambs love and live for! Next album is the time she proves to the world once again why she is the owner of the music industry (something we already know) time to be emancipated 💁🏻♂️
Throught The Rain it's an amazing song but sadly it wasn't a hit, at least not on the US it was like #75 on Billboard, but it is her most popular song on the Philippines
None of the songs was a hit, the album wasn't either, but it has some of her best lyrics and vocals anyways. It's a fan favorite album and one of Mariah's too.
@@estebanrada3081 Through The Rain was a huge hit in Southeast Asia. Sadly, they limited the shipping of this album in Asia, which was why it didn't sell really well in Asia despite Through The Rain being a huge hit.
You made me cry at My Saving Grace. It's a really inspirational song. Although you're not a religious person, you have something very good and pure that I can feel from here. Charm is a great album. You did it great! Can't wait for The Emancipation Of Mimi right next! Stay safe! Love and peace from Brazil!
Yup another GREAT reaction and yup same fave songs as you PLUS subtle invitation. I saw the London concert for the Charmbracelet Tour and was INCREDIBLE. Mariah LIVE was truly an experience of it’s own. Great work, cannot wait for more reactions 💯😃
Loved LOVED your reaction/review of Mariah's discography so much. One thing that I particularly enjoyed is you really put in time and efforts to know the background of each era in addition to simply reacting to the songs. Can't wait for the next album reactions to come (especially Emancipation and Caution)!
You had me crying along with you to My Saving Grace. lol That song hits so different after you’ve experienced life a little more than before...what an amazing powerful reminder her music is.
Love your reactions as usual, once you read her book you’ll know who the roof, my all, lullaby and subtle invitation and actually many songs from butterfly onward are about ❤️
This is one of my favorite albums! It's so sad how people were so dismissive of what it had to offer because of everything that was happening back in the day. Oh well
Wow, this might be one of my favorite reaction videos ever. I really really loved it as I love this album. Hey! I actually cried when My Saving Grace moment happened. Me encantó cuando hablaste en español también :D Un gran abrazo desde Chile. You're a very special person. Just love for you!
I love your reaction to Charmie!! Such an underrated album! The critics are most always wrong when it comes to Mariah dahling. Keep up the great work and reactions...My favorites from the album are My Saving Grace, Subtle Invitation, Lullaby, Through The Rain, and Yours! ❤️
I love this album it’s in my 5 of her albums Back when this album came out it was trendy to be on the mariah hate train and basically most outside of her fans wrote her off
Many believe Tomato Mozzarella was still actively trying to sabotage her during this time. We know from other industry people that he was doing so during Glitter. That being said, some folks don’t like this album as much because of the airy vocals (I personally love it and from what I hear it’s actually not easy to sing this way in a sustained manner). BUT anyway she said something in her book (snippet below) that instantly made me think of this album. After reading that I had a different appreciation for this album considering the trauma of the Glitter era and losing her father. I think making this album must have been restorative, but also the emotions she released on some of the songs were absolutely essential to her ability to heal. “I was always so scared as a little girl, and music was my escape. My house was heavy, weighed down with yelling and chaos. When I sang, in a whispery tone, it calmed me down. I discovered a quiet, soft, light place inside my voice-a vibration in me that brought me sweet relief. My whisper-singing was my secret lullaby to myself.”
Great reaction! I always click super fast, lol. After reading her book, its clear that many of the love songs from the Butterfly album through this album are about DJ (derek jeter). She didn't tell us which ones from this album, but its a safe assumption that "I Only Wanted" (last song in trilogy), "Lullaby", and "Subtle Invitation" definitely are.
Oh Jonny thank you for bringing me so much joy during these tough times, I feel like I’m listening to Mariah’s album with a friend!! I realized I never said my favorite albums but the next one you’re going to listen to is my favorite Mariah album, so excited!! Thanks for these 😊
I cannot choose favorite songs on Chrambible. All of them are my favorites lol 😭 there are 2 more unreleased songs from this album title “There For Me” and “There Goes My Heart” and both are great songs
"There for Me' is part of the Glitter era, it was released in December 2001 as a B-side to the single Never Too Far/Hero Medley. There for Me is a truly beautiful song that should have been a single from the Glitter album/soundtrack.
Also, please when you get to The Emancipation Of Mimi, listen to the Deluxe version!!! Those new tracks are amazing!!! I can’t stop listening to So Lonely!!
You’re so thorough in your reviews and research. It’s appreciated. Another great one. I’m truly interested in your feedback and experience when you do these- that’s a testament to you. Great job. One note, There Goes My Heart is a worthwhile bonus track from this era. My favorites are Lullaby, Irresistible, and Subtle invitation. For the next album, Sprung and Secret Love are the Japanese bonus tracks.
Yesss😍 I looove your reactions so much. Charmbracelet is sadly very underrated. Of point, I feel like you should totally react to Meghan Trainor's lastest album "Treat Myself". It's one of the best pop records in 2020. And I promis, you will fall in love with it😍. Greetings from Germany!
Kelly Price was one of her background singers for 4 years in the 90’s. She’s always praised her talent, but Kelly tweeted she couldn’t sing anymore in like 2015 then got body slammed by all the lambs 🤣 and now she’s trying to make a come back and saying all these positive things about Mariah in interviews, but they are definitely not friends.
Well, Charmbracelet is not my first choice if I’m revisiting a Mariah album, but it does have great lyrics and the vocals go from whispery to crazy amazing belts. Actually my fav song from the album is Bringin’ On The Heartbreak. I know you didn’t like it (and I feel the single version is way better), but that choir at the end, those whistles, OMG. Mariah says on her book that she never intended for Through The Rain to be the first single and I believe that the label got the last word. She really wanted The One to be a single (and you can hear similarities with Breakdown AND We Belong Together, THE 2000’s monster hit that came after that). But back then with no social media, all the tabloids just wanted to ruin her career. My favs: Bringin On The Heartbreak, The One, Yours, Lullaby (that reference to The Roof is just OMG) and Irresistible.
I like bringing in the heartbreak too. A lot of people didn't like how she whispered a majority of the song, but sometimes people don't appreciate all of her styles she sings in.
Charmbracelet is not an album that you like straight away, I learned to like it little by little and today I think it is a great album, honest and very personal. I usually call this album the whisper album. 🦋♥️🇧🇷😘🥰
I'm not gonna go to deep but Eminem is racist, homophobic, sexist, and has said multiple with no accountability made similar claimes about every other women in the industry idk why people still believe a word he says 😭 Side track: her voice sounds more styled its like she took that more generic Whitney esc from the 90’s and modified it by 2005 Mariah had developed that classic whisper to vocal crack and dramatic belt sound and charmbraclet sounds like a younger girlier version of imancipation
Yes react to There Goes My Heart Again and Got a Thing 4 U feat Da Brat before you move onto TEOM. These are amazing songs from the Charmbracelet era and you will love them.
I was hesitant to watch this video/reaction since it's one of my top 2 least favorite Mariah album. There were definite yes but it was way too long for my taste. Plus I'm not a fan of her whisper style. Glad you enjoyed it as much as you did!
