You're reacting to the fan made Acapella version boo! The proper version is supposed to go with Mariah's lessons in the masterclass. More specifically with the Production, Instrumention with the string quartet as well as the backing vocals. Brandy was used to show how Mariah arranges vocals in the backgrounds! The reason Brandy has a feature is because she is a prominent artist. Just like Mariah has a credit for providing backing vocals on Babyface's song Everytime I close my eyes. Also the song is quite autobiographical to Mariah so I don't think it would make sense for Brandy to do lead. But I'm glad she got brandy to showcase how she stacks vocals. She even imitated Brandy's vocals!
