Uh, no. That would be Whitney Houston. Go look at Whitney's 80s and 90s Live performances that was a complete vocal acrobatics masterclass. Mariah sings amazing, but Mariah sings slow...
@@jimmorrison4ever529Delusional whitney stan. Passing away doesn’t mean you take the top spot lmao she’s not the greatest with those plain boring songs and limited vocal range. MARIAH CAREY WAS AND WILL ALWAYS BE THE GOAT not to mention Mariah’s waaaaaaay more successful than whitney
No she’s one OF the greatest vocalist time of all time ur forgetting about Witney Houston Aretha Franklin Patti labelle Celine dion Janet Jackson’s Michael Jackson etc
Butterfly was such a great era. Mariah looked and sounded great. You can tell Rosie was a real fan who listened to Mariah's albums. Thanks for posting these clips for the lambily.
I got this album for Christmas in 1997 and to this day it still sits on the shelf behind me! Mariah's "Butterfly" album and Celine's "Let's Talk About Love" album were my two favorites of 1997. Actually the soundtrack of the 90's for me was full of music by Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, and Lara Fabian. They were and still are my top five favorites!
Mariah has always been my favorite singer. I looooooove Butterfly and Let's Talk About Love. I am no longer a Celine fan but I love their albums back in the 90's. I looooooove Barbra also.
@@BreannaMae Honestly, I just never liked the fact that she always sang in a lower key 🔑 in the 90's than her album versions of songs. 🎵 It sounds miniscule but it just irritated me. Lol.
Honestly though, Céline changing keys is all a part of her live "illusion"-she actually lip synchs quite a lot, and that’s fine, but ever since her Las Vegas residency, she needed to conserve her voice just to be able to speak. Multiple shows per week, it must be difficult vocally. Again, I have nothing against lip synching, especially when it’s done WELL by Celine & her crew. Mariah, who I am obsessed with for decades now, unfortunately doesn’t have the most skilled audio people working for her. They make it audibly clear that the track is coming on and going off. It’s a noticeable difference in sound… and she’ll also lower the keys, because she sings certain parts of each song live. Mariah doesn’t lip synch entire songs, but maybe she should… with Celine, by simply lowering the key, she can fool people into thinking she’s singing live and needs the key lowered. She also uses old fashioned, chorded microphones that she has to move and trip over, again, as part of the "illusion" she’s singing live. On top of all that, Celine knows how to LOOK like she’s singing live. We all know Mariah is lip synching when she has no muscle strain in her face, her neck is barely moving, and the sound quality is oddly similar to the album. I just wish she had different audio engineers or something. Or, pre-record the song like Celine, and just lip synch the entire thing so it’s not so blatantly obvious, lol.
Also, if you’re not a Celine fan now because of her changing the keys… sometimes… what about Mariah though?! 🤔 "Dreamlover", "Can’t Let Go", "Emotions" and others have ALL been performed in lowered keys, even since their original releases in the 90s! I don’t see that as a real reason to stop being a fan of someone, though. Why should that matter? It’s literally a half-step lower, mostly. Maybe a full key, but generally not even. I’m a musician and I use certain software and apps to change the keys of music, basically daily. It’s necessary sometimes, based on the instrument I’m playing, either violin, flute, guitar, etc., because every instrument has its different limitations and capabilities. Including the human voice. If it weren’t for apps and technology changing the keys, I don’t know what I’d do.
Wow! I hadn’t seen this one. Maybe the best and clearest sound of her live voice without any fuss. This is so precise and absolutely beautiful! She can thank those nodules for that incomparable husky tone.
This is from 1997 when she released her Butterfly Album ,I have this Album in my Cd Collection an My favorite songs from this album are My All, Fourth Of July an Babydoll .I also like the title track Butterfly too, what a great album.
I love at the end how they both gave each other their props. This was a great interview. It’s just two old familiar faces from the same area that knew each other. I actually miss the Rosie show so much now I think of it
I adore that old story about her life before fame! Mariah lived one thousand lives. She is so mesmerizing. Back then I adored her, now her personality is a little plastic. Still adore that talented artist. Rosie was an amazing host.
Rosie, you have a gift when it comes to interviewing other celebrities. I miss you so much on tv. I would love to see Carol Burnett on tv or Donny Osmond. Let's get Donny on tv.. 😍🤷🏻♀️ And where's Bob Barker... #legends What a career you've had Ro. You're the best!
I was living in Hawaii when Rosie O'Donnell started her show. I would watch it religiously until I move to Seattle in the summer of 97. I'm so sad I never saw this episode, but I'm so glad that she uploaded it here on RU-vid. I love Mariah Carey's music. It would be super cool if Rosie started a podcast if she hasn't done one and then bring Mariah as her first guest to the podcast. Rosie has always been a very cool host. She has a way of making her guest feel comfortable to just chit chat while we enjoy the camaraderie between her and her guests. Thank you, Rosie.
Loving rediscovering the show that helped me fall in love with the world. So much goodness you put out into the world with this show, Rosie O. And before Beyonce, we had the incomparable Mariah. What a killer live performance.
That classic diva thing always made me sad cause Barbra Streisand and MC were really committed to the good side thing when both are literally classic goddess level beauties. Maybe having that much fixation on your image can really get to a female artist.
No, you can tell she’s upset about it. Rosie asks why she’s mad before they go to Commercial. This was when they flipped the set because Barbra was going to be on.
oh gosh...i bought this album last time. now it is in the box somewhere back in the village. This was the time when mariah is mariah. I dont recognized her now for quite sometime
The quick response when asked about her age. I have to meet this queen. She and I would be laughing all day because Mariah can definitely throw that shade like shade is in her veins. She's sitting on ready
It's BIG SIS COOKIN HER self Again It's Riah The Human Shield the Sacrifice she Takes The Damage For Others she Will Give Even Embarress herself She is Like A Jesus With her Cross Getting Laughed At A Spit On But She Keeps Going She Won't Give Up She Will Keep Going Enduring To the End!!!!! The “I saw you take the bus you were such a pretty girl” is super creepy tbh. Otherwise it was cute to hear Mariah’s New York come out - comes out with Rosie whose got some of her own!!!
She couldnt even hit high notes at 1997, look how she lets the back vocal do the hardest parts. how did she ever become that prestige with that tricks?
She literally had good performances from 1990-1996. She has nodules. It caused her voice to be raspy in 1997 onwards. You acting like this performance is a representation of her entire career. There are literally other performances of this song where she hit the notes. This was just one of those days where her nodules were more irritated. Also she said she was tired. Besides singing isn't all hitting high notes. But I doubt you actually care.
The core of MC hasn't changed. She still seems to be the same person except she didn't have an escort to assist her to her seat. What a treat! Thanks Rosie.
@@soulovelee_2433 no she isn’t. And even IF that was the case, she has a reason to be cynical considering how many times the industry has tried to foil her.
