Mariah was so sad in this interview and Rosie could tell. She actually cared about Mariah and was genuinely concerned about her well-being. She’s like a mom trying to cheer up her baby.
@@zijian8147 at first "Too close" by next and after The Boy is mine by Brandy and Monica, My all stays at #2 for at least 6 or 7 weeks unfortunatly ...
fix For real, her best album, and the one she worked the most hard on creatively and vocally, and it didn't even get the appreciation it truly deserved 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
I spent this week watching Mariah performances, traveled back to the 90s, even saw her in my dream once and we sang together, but this performance was heartbreaking. Something got stuck in my throat at the end. Shame on those who made this wonderful talent, this miraculous, beautiful, kind woman sad. I love you Mariah, you deserve the best.
She looks like she had a long night of crying. But pulled off an incredible performance. So similar to the studio version. And she thought she sounded horse? She's insane.
I love this, you can tell that Rosie's personality really helps Mariah feel comfortable. She's often very censored in interviews, but here you can see she is having fun and comfortable. This is amazing.
@@michaellight7248 She said "trampy dress", get over it. People make comments that they don't always realize sound hurtful if every relationship or friendship ended because of one poorly thought out comment, no one would ever interact with each other.
@@johnn.5033 true, but she said that on (live) television. I don't know their personal relationship, but how did she ever think that it would be okay to call her dress trampy, that seems like it was geared at getting hostile response, seeing as she could have phrased it so differently. But then again it could just be an innocent comment made by a close friend, and everyone makes mistakes.
I love how adorable and low-key Mariah was. I'm from New York as well and this interview is like watching two old friends from New York just chit-chatting casually. It kills me that she kind of apologized for her raspy voice, because I used to imitate her rasp and breathiness for hours when I was a teenager, as I wanted to sound just like her. Poor thing, she was so exhausted and stressed out here.
@@alexstephenson1081 Also, when she snaps back at Rosie after she is asked how old she is? She does this cute little accent, almost kinda like she's about to say "Why I oughta sock you!" lol.
She looks so sad like she had been crying and trying to hold it together it seemed a little hard for her to sing the song but she did it and so proud of her
Joe Krause I think I might surprise you. But that’s not the point of my comment. For a Mariah Carey voice, she was a little bit tired from constantly promoting. But it was d o p e. Dope meaning, beyond what everybody else in this earth can do.
@@didierrobert13004 also her backup vocalists held her back which is something else you people need to consider.. this human has lungs that can swim an entire sea with no breath. It's breath control to the Max
The way they made interviews before was so cool , i love the little chitchats and not overdoing it or going too deep digging the life of the interviewee
Wow!!! I really enjoyed this performance!! Mariah has such an angelic voice! People say she lost her voice here but if you imagine every time you hear Mariah sing it's the first time you've heard her instead of comparing it to the beginning of her career you will actually realize this Woman can sing!! She still sounds better than everyone else in the Business!! I love her!!
@@allthingspage1498 Keep in mind that I’m comparing Mariah in her absolute prime. Ariana? Ariana maybe the closest to Mariah of the new generation. While talented, her voice lacks substance and character. Comparing Mariah to Ariana is like comparing Syrup (Mariah) to water (Ariana). Beyoncé? Beyoncé is super talented, she has an incredible range and control. She’s a master of control within her range, but if you challenge her to do Mariah’s notes within the 5th octave or whistle register, I highly doubt she keeps up. No disrespect intended, love Beyoncé. Whitney? Whitney is a powerhouse, one of the greatest of all time, paved the road for lots of up and coming artists, Beyoncé being one of them. But much like Beyoncé, she has limits in her range. Celine? Celine has a beautiful voice, very easy to recognize. Iconic. But like the other two, she has limits to her range. But similarly to the other two, she’s extremely effective in her range. In fact, there’s a video where she did emotions live with destiny’s child, and she couldn’t really keep up with Beyoncé there. Tori Kelly? She’s an upper register singer, with an incredibly bright upper range with access to her whistle register. In terms of range, she’s probably close to what Ariana can accomplish. Mariah could easily undercut her with her lower register as Tori lack’s development of her lower range. No disrespect here, I love Tori’s versatility in song selection, but she has her limits. Kelly Clarkson? Kelly Clarkson is another talented singer, but no one from American Idol even comes close to Mariah’s caliber. Jessie J? Jessie J is severely underrated, and in terms of newer talent? Probably one of the best on your list. She has ton of unique characteristics to her voice, an incredible range in both upper and lower registers. Her cover of my heart will go on (some sort of Asian game show) is one of the best I’ve ever seen. Incredibly versatile, with the ability to do modern pop, ballads, rap, pretty much anything. It wouldn’t surprise me if she had access to her whistle register as well, but I’d say that she lacks the more subtle voice qualities that Mariah had in her prime. Look up “My All” live in Tokyo, the first chorus was lip synced, but the rest was executed brilliantly. The only way to compare is to have Jessie Cover my all. But I’m fairly certain Mariah in her prime? Wins out.
it must really hurt for her not to be able to sing like she did just a year prior to that era. She worked really well with it tho but you can see she's still adjusting to the reality.
When this aired I was all like, "whoo, she sounds a little rough." So used to that daydream era. looks like she was too. her face after she was done! but she did amazeballs
I think she still sounded incredible in 97-98. I think the added rasp deceived some people into thinking it declined more than it did - the agility was incredible and she still had some great upper belts until 1999.
after the final note, it’s like the metaphorical storm of sadness and passion has finally passed and she’s smiling again, it’s like her songs are great self-therapy for a time like what she was going through at this point in her life
She still sounded great during her performance, but she was really tired during this period. She was being pressured so much from her record company and Tommy to continue to record one album after the other. I love Mariah and I like her "Daydream" and "Butterfly" albums the best. Those albums really showed her transition from the ballad type of songs that she mainly made in the beginning of her career to a more R&B/Hip-hop sound. Mariah Carey is a living legend and will always be remembered as one of the best singers ever in the music industry. She is "The Sungbird Supreme". :)
It was such a tough situation she was in, divorced from the label head, paranoid about people around her, and then to have two albums remaining on her contract. She couldn't just compile together a crap album because that would ruin her career, so she was in the precarious scenario of having to work as quickly as possible to get done with Butterfly and Rainbow while also making sure that she wasn't sabotaging her own career by putting out music that was below her standards. Really, really tough goals. I honestly think Rainbow was kind of thrown together, to be honest, and instead of making Glitter in 1999 as she intended, she put Heartbreaker as the lead single on Rainbow and moved on to Virgin to start work on her acting and singing debut.
She started off a little shaky, but once she warmed up she blew everyone’s roof off. That fragility in her voice adds a very beautiful emotion to this song and overall performance. Not to mention, she looks incredible.
NUMBER#1 QUEEN OF ALL TIME SHE MELTS YOUR HEART WITH EMOTIONS WHEN SHE SINGS HER VOICE IS JUST TOUCHING TO YOUR SOLE AND WHEN THE HAND GOES UP GET READY TO HAVE YOUR HEART ROCKED INTO YOUR CHEST ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOU MISS MARIAH CAREY
Mariah was not happy with this performance, however she killed it... I love it when you think she's not going to hit those notes because of the rasp, but she does. I love the rasp!
Still an awesome performance from her despite not being feel okay. I love this performance because I could hear her voice's vulnerability, the emotions, her raw and real voice. She really cried before this or the night before. I love you, Queen!
WOW! You don't see many singers allowing their background singers since some of their solo parts. That is so clever, instead of lipsyncing. She could have brought the key down a little lower though. I'd be okay with that. I also love how her singers are backing up her runs. I wish I could have been a backup singer for her at this time.
This song "My All" made me fell inlove as lamb with Mariah for the first time. Made me bought the record and so on with other MC cassette records back then. Haha! 😁
WOW, what a treasure she is just incredible. I like how Rosie brings out Mariah's accent. They have a genuine connection and it's a reflection of Good vibes women supporting women. 🙏
I agree, even ib her "bad side" she's absolutely beautiful! Marian herself is the 1 that started this comment. Early on in her carter at a photo shoot someone told her "Always make sure they photograph you from your good side, never let them shoot you from your bad side! " and she took it to heart&has stuck with
This was the same period that Barbra Streisand was going to be on and Barbra had the opposite “problem side”. Rosie flipped the set for at least a week and said “they were trying new things” because she didn’t want to say it was just because of Barbra.
MC's MY ALL ~ both spectacular and devastating, left me shook 😱! If MC was ever at her fullest capacity, this was it. Afterwards, Rosie's voice, silly & insightful, was hard to process.
I google earthed Bayview Road & It’s actually a stunning area. It’s so weird to Imagine young Mariah stood at the bus stop with no eyebrows & orange hair probably practicing runs & riffs In her head 🙈❤️
