@@driedautumnleaf Actually not. It depends on the glass. Hit a glass with a spoon and listen the "note" it sounds, you must be singing the same note the glass produce with a high volume. That's the theory, I don't really know if Mariah or any person who can do whistle might break a glass, again, it requires a really high volume.
@@PRNOBTCH she’s not a alto , first of an alto are the voice in the back in a choir . A contralto is what you meant and she’s definitely not cuz a contralto could NEVER hit the notes she hits even with her every practice that you want . She’s a light soprano who can hit very high and low notes which is impressive for a human . She’s literally a goat !!
@@ulradeja5380 The end of the year is approaching and...AND THE AWARD FOR MOST ANNOYING OF THE YEAR GOES TO.... 🥁🥁🎊🎊🥳 Pam, pam, pam, pam,...... 🥁🥁 : "ULRADEJA 🍎🕶️ Uhuuuuuuuuuu wwwoowuww iiffiiiuuuu fiuuuu (laughs in whistle register), (applauses) . And obviously, her iconic legless entrance 😂🎊👌🏽.
omg that lost interview gave me so much life. Proof that she is very intelligent and articulate. I think TV is just a lot of pressure, especially live TV, and she can only think of her go-to's when she's on air. She's definitely more comfortable just talking to someone with a tape recorder.
Christine Donley I wish she’d guest on a podcast or something so she could have the time and no pressure (and not be on the constant move lol) to go into full detail about these things or anything at all. I would die for something like that
i imagine her mother must have been so frustrated with her. her mom, the technically trained opera singer Julliard alum and vocal coach, having Mariah Carey for a daughter lol MC doesn't know anything about her own octave range, just that she can hit notes really well lmao. girl is naturally gifted.
Sara It's obvious that she knows a lot; she doesn't want to come across as a "know it all" eg. she obviously knows it's called a "whistle register" but she wants to relate to the common person so she refrains from calling it that...
Well I imagine her mother was frustrated because Mariah wasn’t using head voice. She was in the operatic range, but she wasn’t doing it traditionally. So I assume her mother immediately assumed she was using improper technique and that she would lose her voice if she kept doing it.
I mean I’m sure she knows and is humbled that no other celeb/singer gets asked this so she tries to explain it as easy as she can for refusal humans to understand it loo
@8:00 That is the first time I've EVER heard her actually admit she has vocal nodules. And I'm a LONG time fan. I've never actually seen/heard really any of these interviews.
She's mentioned the nodules on her vocal chords before when people question why she doesn't sound like she did in the early 90s. She explained that using that whistle so much and singing so powerfully was stressing her vocal chords causing the nodules to form. She also admitted that sometimes they work against her and other times they work in her favor.
Yes Mariah is like black Canary from DC lmbo but fr her voice is a super power and she can bend it in like almost a infinite amount of ways it's just so cool to me
I taught myself how to hit a lot of her whistles by ear. The problem with that is without hearing the note being performed, I can't do it myself. I think thats called a false note or something but I know its not out of my capability because in the process of learning to do her whistles by ear, I learned how to do high head voice notes like Debelah Morgan without needing to hear them. I just wish there was a stable, healthy technique to get my voice to switch into that register smoothly. This maybe a stupid concern especially since I know of a singer who can do both, minnie riperton, but I'm afraid of losing my ability to go up like Debelah Morgan in the process of learning to whistle freely.
Same. I can not tell you the note(s) that I reach, cause here, in France, we don't write notes in numbers, like you. But for the example, I can make the "Someday" whistle, and the "Lead The Way" whistle, too. But there are days "without"... As you know :)
But I've always had a hard time with the whistle from "Dreamlover", and "There's Got To Be A Way". Oh, and "Vanishing". Not because of the note itself. But because of how she slips from a belted note with vibrato to a whistle. I need to gain agility in my technique. Yet, I still don't know how to aquire it....How does a singer work on their agility / how quick you jump from one note / register, to another. That's the toughest part to me...And of course, my dream is to be able to hit that note she did for MTV's commercial, you know with her Dog, dubbed by Snoop Dogg. Now, THAT final note...Is my dream. Workin' on it ! ^_^
Catherine VAZ Having a whistle register is amazing whether you can control it or not! If you do learn to control it, I would love to hear some videos of it. Also, the "Someday" note is the B (B6) above a Soprano C (C6), which in itself is a very high note. :)
Wow, my situation is so similar to Mariah's! I hit whistles mostly in the morning when I was a kid. (The only time when I hit whistles is when I'm tired)
THANK YOU 4 UPLOADING THIS! Ive been looking for her talking about this bc i have a whistle register too andall im really finding out is we have similar experiences but it still helps for me to hear her experiences too! ty!
Actually the same for me. The clearer my chest voice the less good my whistle is and of my chest voice is raspy and hoarse my whistle is so much better.
Must record, but that is how I found my whistle register while singing; but I recommend singing within the range you have for the lower voices and higher voices: like alto, finding a tenor digging deep; or a countertenor for looking up; either a first or a second of a voice. Some whistle notes are outside of the singing range, doesn't mean other notes aren't in there.
I learnt how to whistle the exact same way. When I would wake up with a hoarse voice, I can whistle all day long. Sometimes when my voice isn't hoarse it just doesn't happen.
i can make a squeaky sound with my voice if it's dry and a little swollen. So sometimes I want my voice to be always hoarse so can make those squeaky sounds.
Y'all might not believe me but one time my voice was hoarse and broken lol and I was hitting high notes and I thought I unlocked my Mariah voice lol but my voice became normal and it stopped working lol
Head voice works like in a flute (where instead of vocal cords, the air flow bounces in the headroom and makes it resonate The Bee Gees' Staying Alive is argueably the best example for that. I think Mariah's whistle is just a head voice where her head contains narrower tunnels so it reaches higher frequencies
I can do whistle and I'm under 14😊😊I'm super happy bc I can sing all MARIH songs with whistle😍😍😍😍for me it's simple, but before....😑😑😑😑was really hard....you must has a very control of your whistle and you must know use at the right moment(bc when I talk and Smile,I sometimes do a whistle stronger like a bird and my friends look me in a strained mode)😂😂😂😂😂sorry guys, isn't my fault👍👍
She was so much more down to earth back then and didn't talk in that fake voice that she does today. And don't hate! I like her and her music but anyone that listens to her old interview then the new ones can tell the difference. I mean, obviously she's gonna change through the years, everyone does and that's okay. I just can't stand when celebrities talk in that fake ass voice.
I looove her new show! Shes definitely a diva, she has fun with it, lol, but shows another side to her, a little deeper. I love her! She seems like she'd be a good girl friend & fun to hang out with. Loove Mariahs World.
It's not as hard as one might make you believe. You don't push it like you would falsetto and then try to go higher. You push hair through the vocal cords like you would when you whistle out of your mouth. Try doing it by inhaling first
I think there is a greater risk to the surgery than just not hitting whistle register. But I would rather keep my abilities in my power range than do some whistles and not be able to belt out a regular high note.
Markiese Franklin Yep. I always talk in it at College and then people always get me to swear in it or see how high I can go cause it 'amuses' them -_- Lol But yeah, talking in it is a nice ease into singing into it. That is how I learned
SilentAssassin01234 cool I jus learned it by constantly screaming and then I slipped into it😂😂😂😂 but befo I learned I used to use falsetto and thot I was doing it but then I learned I wasn't doing it so I screamed and slipped in it ( keep in mine in took me overall like 3 years to finally discover my whistle)
