What’s great about the studio version is that Mariah did every vocal layer. Lead, background and ad libs. After the last chorus she also did whistle notes where she sounded like a bird. The studio version is just so damn nice to hear.
that's why i love listening to every single version of this song and it's my all time fave mariah song! the studio version, smooth harmonies version, acapella, stripped version, live version, and every time i listen i hear new things!
6:15 That is absolutely right Jack! We are so spoiled that she can hit very high and very low notes when in fact her tone alone (the way her voice sounds) already stands out from majority of singers
If you like "Underneath the Stars", you should react to "Fourth of July", a similar type of song from the Butterfly album. :) Mariah said writing the poetic lyrics for Fourth of July was like painting a picture, and there are so many beautiful vocal layers in it!! You can listen to that song over and over and still hear something new in it.
This is my favorite Mariah song!!! If you listen to the album version with headphones on you can hear like 20+ background layers and harmonies!!! The note she does at the climax his way in the background on the actual track and you won’t even hear it unless you’re listening for it... there’s also a really awesome remix to this song called ‘underneath the stars drifting remix’
Underneath the stars it's a pure poetic Masterpiece, i love the way she let her voice flows around the harmonies. She's gorgeously creating a sensual aura without beign nasty but beign Subttle, tender and sublime thats what's makes her a Majestic songwritter and of course a gifted singer!!
that daydream album is the first CD I ever bought - money well spent and have bought every album shes done ever since and before - shes quality which is rare these days; I respect her talent
Yes!!! Finally you reacted to this song. It’s so amazing. I seriously think a career in music would fit you, you have an ear for all aspects that make up a song. You listen for all the nuances that some would not pick up on. 👏🏽👏🏽
I’m subscribing. I worked as a vocal coach for years before transitioning to life coaching. You are absolutely right. Great singers do not need to show all of their skills to be impressive. Subtleties are just as sexy impressive and skillful. Mariah in her prime had a voice and technique we had never seen. Jack your vids are nice I’m a 30 year old and enjoy these reactions. You’re very intelligent and well spoken. I see big things in you man.
That transition amazing, heard like easy but not that too easy to another to try that. Breathy, agility (so fast and natural till unhear if we dont paytention clearly), fast transition, vocal control, super ligth smort d5 resonance sustained notes.
Queen of subtlety from 1:51 to 1:58. I am a guitar player and sometimes I fantasize being able to like play Steve Howe. In the 70s he was know for playing back to back phrases that had subtle changes in texture and tone. I sometimes daydreamed what it would be like to actually play guitar like that. I actually never heard a guitar player play my “perfect passage” that I visualized in my head. But Mariah did just that with vocals in those 7 seconds. May be the most moving, and profound series of notes I have ever heard in my 49 years on this planet. She is a master magician the way she allows the listener to download more information and transcend to an understanding that is more than mere lyrics. We are taken to a place where 2 to-be-lovers are immune to time and space, and we understand that time here is utterly cut away, precluded from it’s own reality and forms its own “little place in time” as she calls it. I sometimes feel sorry for space-time itself. Her performance is as powerful as something harder than diamond moving faster than the speed of light in all multiverses simultaneously if that makes sense.
I feel late as hell, but I definitely have a new RU-vid video reaction fav, Sir Jack! Especially with all this Mariah Carey content. Here for it. Clear for it. 👏 👏
This is one of my very favorite Mariah songs, and it's fantastic watching younger people discover her musical & vocal genius. I've watched a few of your videos and so impressed with your observant ear & commentary. Your knowledge and love of music is evident, keep up the great work!
I have over 170 songs of hers in my library (Prince is next with 108), so I have a lot of favorites from her. But this and and Fourth of July are 2 of my absolute favorites. Just the feeling I get right in my sternum.
This song seems like a story of me during my high school days that’s why I love this so much. Thanks for reacting to this... and you kinda look like Roc, Mariah’s son.. and please don’t forget to react to “The Distance” from her Caution Album 💋💕
First, stumbled upon this, and loving your videos! I am a massive Mariah fan! I'd like to suggest you watching her video for "Without You". A hit to the feels. Also, the "Obsessed" video is awesome and comical and worth a view as well. Keep it up man!
Again great reaction as always Jack! You want longer Mariah expirience? You can try "Just be good to me"!It's again from the Tokio Dome concert 1996, longer than 6 minutes and the best cover of this song !
@@victoriaewing1777 Wow,this was very sweet! There are so many devoted fans out there!Mariah, you are really beloved beyond the universe. TRUE LOVE,what can I say.. 😍
If you want to hear more like these songs, react to "Fourth of July" by Mariah if you haven't done yet...it's very similar but unique at the same time!!
Please react to some of her performances from MTV unplugged, especially Emotions. Her performance was in response to critics saying her voice was a studio creation. Not at all the case, she’s just amazing! ❤️🦋
You need to react to her "If It's Over" at the 1992 Grammys. It's a vocal masterclass! Also, if you're looking for more killer vocalists, Natalie Weiss is probably the closest to the next generation's Mariah - completely insane technique.
You should listen to the studio version. The harmonies are insane on the album version (because mariah sang them not the background singers *no shade* lol)
Please please please react to Mariah’s Patti Labelle tribute where she sings If only you knew/Somewhere over the rainbow! I Love watching your reactions everyday!🔥
The Entire MTV Unplugged performance, The entire Tattoo club performance, the Always Be My Baby official video, Can't Let Go official video, Migrate audio, I'm That Chick audio, Betcha Gon Know audio, the entire debut and emotions albums.... for your next video reactions! Will keep posting this till you do hot Jack! 😁❤🤞✌🦋🎤🎶🐑
