In 1957, photographer Sam Shaw followed Marilyn around New York while she ate, rowed across a lake, mingled with fans, while she shopped and sight-saw. Music- Clair Du Lune

The story behind the first set of photos with Marilyn read the newspaper on the bench: Marilyn and Sam Shaw were walking in the park. Marilyn was telling Sam about what she was learning at the Actor's Studio, something to do with improvisations. He asked her to show him. So Marilyn grabbed a newspaper and set on the bench next to the couple, acting as reading. The story goes that the man was proposing to the girl. They did not mind her and continued their conversation. At the end Marilyn and Sam introduced themselves and asked for the couple's permission to publish the photos. They agreed of course. Such a beautiful lady.... But whenever I see pictures of her for me there's always something a little sad about her... Even when she smiles.... Almost as if she's lost somehow
yes, the sadness is the radiance. The way the light reflects off of her almost transparent skin creates a shimmering glow, as if she is ghostlike....the camera made love to her...
