Hollywood earned a lot of money with her as a sexsymbol, this role destroyed her. Lauren Bacall turned her back to Hollywood and went to Broadway as actress, Hollywood is really destroying actors in high numbers! Marylin Monroe had no idea and strenght to change her role!
@Woohoo Marilyn really never had any true self-esteem. Oh, she knew she could turn people on, but I think her sexuality and "sexiness" was all she believed in about herself. Her story is a sad one. She wouldn't have been able to see, or TRULY believe in, her talent even if she would have won an Academy Award. Marilyn was so insecure and unbelieving in herself. Such a shame.
😍 I love seeing, and hearing, Marilyn in her earlier films; she didn't need all the overdone glam etc. of later on, she was so pretty and spellbinding in her more natural way. 😍
SHE IS PERFECTION! Perfect acting, perfect singing, perfect dancing, enchanting gestures, grace, tenderness, brightness, splendor, magnificence, exceedingly beauty, glamour, delicacy, femininity, sensuality with dignity, greatness with humbleness, extreme willpower, strong determined spirit, ever considerate, respectful and sincere towards people, hugely sensitive and very very intelligent. God Blessed Her With Many Talents. A Genuine Marvel Always Looking For Excellence. Her Face Shines With Grace And Innocence Because So Was Her Soul. A True Artist! A Real Super Star! The Most Beautiful Woman Ever!
@@karendalsadik7119 'Don't Bother To Knock' with Richard Widmark, Ann Bancroft and Elisha Cook also. Probably my favorite movie of hers ...it really showed her acting chops. I think it's still here on RU-vid in it's entirety.
She's soo good. People who don't understand acting don't even realise how good she is. I love this character she plays in this film, so confident, strong, playful, a little tomboy, gorgeous of course, natural behaviour, full of life, totally adorable.
This is her real voice but a little bit less whispery than in later movies. She used this whispers to decrease her stuttering. Although I think that she spoke very fluent.
So wonderful to see someone has collated Marilyns scenes from this movie. Miss Monroe looks wonderful and natural here. She never looks dated, she would fit right into 2016 looking like she does right in this movie. Always wanted to see her in this film. Absolutely wonderful compilation. Thanks.
I first watched Marilyn Monroe's films in a time I was ill and looking for things to binge. I wanted to see her films to find out what all the fuss was about, and became an instant fan. But I didn't watch Clash by Night as she didn't have a main role and it sounder grimmer than what I wanted to watch at the time; so it's nice to see her scenes clipped out here! One thing I've noticed about her acting, which I think is charming, is that she always gives her full attention to the people she is talking to, usually keeping her eyes on their faces the whole time.
I don't believe that a woman who, after having suffered so much in her childhood and adolescence, after having tried so hard to surpass herself and achieve excellence; and, after having achieved stardom and recognition and with so many plans and projects ahead, try to commit suicide. Among all the vicissitudes she had to go through, she always kept faith and hope. Furthermore, she had a heart of gold and very noble and generous feelings; therefore, such a sublime soul has no intention of hurting anyone, much less hurting herself. The Most Beautiful Woman Ever!
It's a shame when you watch Marilyn here that Fox had to later straight jacket her into dumb blonde sexpot roles. Sadly though that was the times. Marilyn was still charming in her starring roles but they were so limiting. Jean Harlow got a better deal in the 1930's when she got to be smart and wise-cracking in her roles. Marilyn could have been that way if there had been roles like that in the 1950's.
Raphael Basile I was just thinking that too, I wish they had her in more movies like this one, she was so sweet and adorable here, and her giggle is just the cutest!!
Mark BestBuddy This is a bit deeper than her real voice. She was playing a toughish character here, so the voice matched. Her real voice is inbetween this one and the higher pitched one in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Watch her in interviews to hear her real voice. Very feminine and a bit breathy.
Not Only She Was A Very Talented Actress But Had A Charming Angel Voice And Could Sing Very Well, A Wonderful Singer. A Real Superstar! The Most Beautiful Woman Ever!
WOW Marilyn in CLASH BY NIGHT is AWESOME when she says , Just let any man try! (To abuse her!) She stands up for herself, strong and independent. So different from the characters she was made to play by the studios. WATCH!
I like her kinda divine MM persona, but I really adore her for movies like this one, don't bother to knock and specially for the misfits tho. These movies represents this kind of serious actress marilyn wanted to be recognized as all her life.
Yes Marilyn was beautiful but she shone so brightly with talent - she had a great acting range and it always feels real watching her... she takes you into the place and time she is inhabiting. I hope more people learn to look beyond the facade - she was captivating and it is impossible not to watch her in any scene she is in - but she had a truly wonderful acting gift.
Awww, Marilyn is so young, fresh, wholesome and adorable here and her acting is fantastic~~~perfect, even!!! She has none of the affectations that she picked up later which, in my opinion, hindered her ability to garner the serious dramatic roles that she so desired.
This is a great film. It reminds me a bit of the kitchen sink films we got in the UK a decade later. Seeing Marilyn in a turban and working in a factory is priceless. And she is great here, as she was in Niagara and The Misfits. Her looks overshadowed her acting, like Debbie Harry's looks later overshadowed her great natural singing voice. It's a pity people can never see beyond the surface while appreciating that surface.
Agree, Don't Bother to Knock was ahead of it's time in terms of the acting, script and plot. She really showed a range and dramatic gift that was never given a chance to explore or develop further.
This is filled with some of the best...look at Marilyn. Loved her in this... so cutesy.😊adorable..Great story. ...forgiveness and redemption at its best on screen. 😇✝️🙏🏼❤️✡️❤️
Monroe, as was her habit, had trouble remembering her lines. Stanwyck, as was her habit, had the entire script memorized before filming began. Once, when Monroe had a flock of reporters and fans around her, a crew member asked why a no-talent was so popular. Stanwyck replied that with a body like hers, Monroe did not need talent. Still, Monroe later said that Stanwyck was the only old-time movie star who was nice to her.
U will spread!!! A- hole...... piece of Shi,t..........even though its a movie.....😊 She is the most beautiful woman that ever existed................... horrible line to say to her.. Mistake...Love her tuffness in this movie
The making of a fine actress right before our eyes. The well regarded & highly respected director Joshua Logan is quoted as saying Marilyn was one of the finest actresses he'd ever worked with "Bus Stop". He said she was very intelligent, formerly uneducated but highly intelligent. Susan fr Australia 2020
@RGDCanada. I agree, I just fell through the floor when I heard that, laughing at how perfectly cute that line fit. She was smashing and totally aced it , much talent, so much human dignity and womanly lady-like wholesome appeal. There shall never be any replacement for Our Leading Lady, Actress Marilyn Monroe (Norma Jean)………. If only MM knew how terrific she was! Her stardom one of a kind……. Shine forever, Bright Star…………..
Finally a movie that had substance! Not just another scene with marilyn shaking her assists for the sex crazed men but a movie that let her finally shine! ⭐Her voice in this movie fits her personality 💗🥰⭐👍
SHE IS PERFECTION! Just singing, she is terrifically wonderful! What a beautiful voice! She Is A Marvel! A True Artist! A Real Superstar! God blessed her with an angel voice and many talents. And she gave them without reserve to all the world. Her face shines with grace and innocence because so was her soul. Had she dedicated only to singing, for sure would've she won many Grammys. The Most Beautiful Woman Ever! Happy Birthday In Heaven Beloved Norma Jeane!
The deeper voice was Marilyn in character! In the public eye she lived in character especially if there were cameras. At 3:42 when she says, "I don't know." that's more her real voice!
Haven't seen this movie in a long time. Wish someone could upload the whole movie-even in parts......Stanwyck as usual was brilliant. Monroe mesmerizing, Douglas evokes emotion out of his audience-all good actors in this one. Ty for uploading this clip.
She's very strong in this movie, physically strong. Amazing talent but she squelched it to become a caricature. There's so much to admire about her resolve to become an artist.
Thanks a lot, very, very thanks a lot for posting this. I've never seen this film but until my 13 years old I admire her and think she has probably her best actor' game in it. Sorry for my poor english !
The cutest line ever and so fitting for her later song, diamonds are a girls best friend which she aced it. Natural born actress and beauty, inside and out. Famous forever!
Ditto !! I love her real voice to. I really want to see this movie!! Norma Jean Baker was an extremely great natural actress. She was a better dramatic actress then anyone in that era. I've heard comedy is harder because of rhythm and timing. It's sad that Marilyn didn't realize what a fine actress she was. RIP Beautiful and Talented Angel xoxo
During production, Stanwyck is said to have remarked "Her future is behind her" referring to MM's sexy walk. This picture shows her dramatic talent, which was never fully developed.
