That's because they are used as side-character plot devices, as opposed to being real characters modeled after what people are really like. Look at the popular anime where there is a female main character alongside a male one: Sword Art, Bunny Girl Senpai, Shield Hero, Tagaki-san, etc. If the female character is important, they are actually written to act like, you know, actual, real human beings. And actual, real human beings -- even girls! -- fall in love and want their affections to be returned. Marin just doesn't know how to get there yet. She's likely looking for a sign that Gojo feels the same way about her as she does about him, but... he doesn't. Not yet, at least. He finds her to be amazingly gorgeous, and he is impressed her commitment to her art, but he doesn't yet see her with the same level of respect and adoration that she sees him.

I just really love how the series handles someone like Gojo. Of course his mechanical skills are top tier but because he has no social experience whatsoever he of course isn't able to draw faces on dolls well enough because he doesn't really know how to capture the emotions displayed on faces. Having someone like Marin who is all about experiencing life to the fullest she is the perfect person to be his muse.

Also the comedy element is done very well, pacing if always on point and I always have a good laugh

It's been the recent trend with popular romance animes that ACTUALLY flesh out both love interests and make both visually and characteristically distinct. Self inserts are stupid because they only work when you're given choice yourself like in a game or choose your own path book.

it does fit the trope in a few ways loner dude, overly encouraging exciting girl enters his life with allot of interests the viewers would like. But once she knows him it isn’t difficult to see why she would like him, dudes kinda inspirational how passionate he is about his work and therefore his life. He expresses himself.
