She ‘requested’ that when she married that her title Princess still remained along with her new title of duchess. She just didn’t marry a prince but was herself born a princess. Thus She was always referred to as ‘Princess Marina Duchess of Kent’.
Princess Marina certainly did marry one of the most handsome princes of her time! Prince George, Duke of Kent, was known for his striking looks and charm, making them a very glamorous and admired couple.
Thank you Trish for your lovely comment! I’m so glad the video helped highlight her incredible humanitarian efforts. She was truly stunning in every way, and I’m happy you enjoyed learning more about her.
I’m really glad you appreciate that approach! Understanding the people surrounding the principal figures can really bring history to life. Thanks for watching!
Beautiful video on Princess Marina. It's always amazing to know more about historical figures and see original paintings, photographs and video footage, perfectly narrated as always. Thanks, Jon 👍🏻💖
I really appreciate your thoughtful comment Marie! It’s great to hear that you enjoyed learning more about Princess Marina and that the visuals and narration resonated with you. Thank you for watching!
I've heard that Marina was quite a snob, loooking down on The Duchess of York (later HM Queen Elizabeth,The Queen Mother) and Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester, as 'those common Scottish girls'.
Thank you for sharing that! Princess Marina’s comments about the Duchess of York and Princess Alice do highlight the class distinctions that were very much alive in royal circles. It’s interesting to see how those attitudes played out in their interactions.
I really appreciate your comment! Marina’s story is one that often flies under the radar, so I’m thrilled you found it interesting. Thanks for watching Sam
I really appreciate your kind words! Princess Marina’s life was truly inspiring, and I’m so glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you for taking the time to watch and share your thoughts!
@@HistoryRoadshow I was ill last week, and your videos helped me get through the pain. Your imagery brings these historical figures to life. I can’t thank you enough. The amount of content is astounding - I have many more to go!
There is a very interesting account of her wedding to be found in the diaries of the Soviet ambassador, let's just say that he was aware of her Romanov ancestry! "The Maisky Diaries" make fascinating reading.
I actually think she was a much nicer and caring person than The Queen Mother ever was! Patricia Gambino Harrington (sorry for the different names, but I post on my husband Frank's RU-vid acct)
Perhaps it would have helped to understand Marina's frustration and efforts if you would have mentioned that the prince she originally wanted, was dimwitted, best-dressed, and a whoozy. It would explain why he succumbed to Mrs Simpson and why princess Marina was so particular about her attire.
That’s an interesting perspective! Knowing that Princess Marina had originally hoped to marry a prince who was less than ideal-dimwitted, fashion-focused, and easily swayed-adds depth to her character and her meticulous attention to appearance. It also sheds light on why she might have been so particular about her own image and choices.
It is indeed sad to see how much pressure was placed on her appearance, especially in preparing for such a significant life event. The expectations of the time were incredibly harsh, and it’s reflected in how she looks in those portraits.
Princess Marina and Prince Philip were first cousins. Marina was the daughter of Prince Nicholas of Greece and Denmark and Grand Duchess Elena Vladimirovna of Russia. Prince Philip was the son of Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark and Princess Alice of Battenberg.
