Steve McCullough arrived in Da Nang in April 1968. Within a day, he was stationed at Khe Sanh, where he did intelligence work as the base was under regular artillery bombardment. After a month at Khe Sanh, he served as an intelligence analyst at Dong Ha (while receiving vaccine shots for a rat bite at Khe Sanh.) Then he went to the Combined Interrogation Center in Da Nang where he conducted many interrogations as a member of the 11th Interrogation/Translation Team. The interrogations were conducted completely in Vietnamese. He received a Bronze Star with a “V” for field intelligence work that prevented Marines from walking into an ambush.
