For me at least the main part of gojira and why I like them is their drums. Mario is probably the best drummer in the world and barely any knows about him
Mario does not perform drumsolo's anymore. He simply surpassed that level of playing. Mario performs rituals on the drums in a sacred ceremony called Gojira. Magnifique.👌
Please stop confuse hardness speed and precision. By the way, you can have an idea of how hard he can hit taking a look to the close up view on his snare rim at 1:08
Like a fine wine, just gets better with age! Side note: I've seen people use small saw blades for cymbals, but that's the first time I've seen someone use a piece of diamond plate. Sounds really good and unique!
I love how aptly named this is. Its fast and intense and the erratic with the time thingies (forgive me, i dont know a single musical term). Cyclone works really well as a name. I hope to see more, I always love hearing these solos
It was impressive.. really... Some years ago my friend say to me "listen Gojira listen Gojira" and i do it.. Today after 25 years of metal music, Mario is my favorurite drummer, i love everything of his style, his sound, his creativity, and also his person, amazing guy and great artist 🙏🏼❤️
C'est tellement rare d'entendre des batteries chanter !!? Quel musicien , facilement responsable de la moitié du succès de GOJIRA . Je suis impatient d'aller les revoir en concert
Drum solos are often insufferably harsh on the ears! Many drummers - even the best ones working in the biggest rock bands - just think speed and loudness are what make for a good drum solo. Mario shows how it should really be done: finesse, rythym, groove, tonality, and just a well- constructed piece that's been throught through vs just hammering away at the kit.
That's because being a drummer in a popular rock band doesn't necessarily equate to mastery (see Meg White). Those bands are big because of the songs and the drummers usually only create riffs / ideas to support those songs. Many of them are guided / instructed by a producer as to what to play on said songs too. Beyond that kind of a job, you gotta have some real passion & skill for the drums in order to make serious statements as a soloist. Even so, if Mario wants to be considered a master beyond his Metal band then he needs to expand his drumming vocabulary as well.
@@Guppusmaximus helps that Mario has a background in jazz and latin during his early years, only choosing to spec into metal bc of Joe introducing him to Metallica honestly I feel like any aspiring drummer, esp for metal should start with something for jazz, as it lays very good foundations for practice and discipline. many great rock/metal drummerd have such a background, like Matt Garstka and Tomas Haake and Danny Carey
It is a CRIME that you only have 70k subscribers. You are an amazing human and such an inspiration, please continue to drive emotion into us with your amazing drumming
Love how they did the frame rate so the sticks look like they're bending. I would also love it if they uploaded this in like 50 or 60 fps too so you can see everything clearly. Mario is such an amazing drummer
Mario...is easily one of the most creative, and musical, drummers on the scene today. Always a pleasure to listen to and watch. Interesting to note...that he often uses minimal mic placements as well. Snare...two on the bass drums...and room mics.
I'm always intrigued by the extra things to hit that are not drums - did I see a small disc of manhole cover or something? Mario's drumkit always seems to incorporate interesting new sounds. I still chuckle at the 3 cowbells. A genius is never satisfied, always looking for more, and I love that about Mario. What a privilege to listen to! 🥰🤗
Nothing to see here except some next level stuff, amazing dynamics, creativity, feel, endurance, and timing. Only the most original metal drummer out there.
Istg Mario and Johnny Rabb have to be some of the most dynamic and well rounded drummers of all time... and I was graced to be alive while they both are active 🤟 Love watching you both for inspiration!
i always get excited to see mario's drum solos, you never know what to expect (except brilliance!). As a drummer i know why he does these unusual/non traditional solos too, its to train his muscle memory into doing unusual syncopations and things our body, limbs and brain naturally dont want to do! Plus adding funky grooves to keep it entertaining for us! thanks mario, you are a beast, cant wait for the next one next year!
C'est grâce à toi que je fais de la batterie, pas un an de pratique cumulé mais je progresse et j'espère un jour faire de la musique, toi et Gojira êtes une grande source d'inspiration et un immense second souffle ! Merci pour tout !
Hi Mario ! I remember meeting you after a Gojira gig at a very small club venue in Calgary, Canada. You came up to me and asked me to take a picture of you and one of your bands fans. You had told me the show was funny because you are use to playing to larger crowds in Europe. Not too long after this, you guys were opening for Metallica. Good on you man. Much respect !
This man has a very usual take on drumming for a rock or metal band and what he is doing here is amazing. It's like he is tapping into a force of nature with his groove? like he found a conk shell on the beach, listened to it and started playing the "feel" of the sound of the ocean. This is talent and the grooves are so tasty 😎👌👏🔥
