Wonderful piece of art Mario! Can you please give us some information about time signature, tempo? And also the equipment - is it really a Tama Rockstar? Which skins do you have on it (incl. reso)? Thanks a lot, keep up the good work!!!!
@Mario Duplantier. Np broski. U are the best drummer I know out there. My dad was the one who introduced me to u guys and u have been a huge influence for me Mario. Keep it up man. I hope u and gojira kill it during your summer tour in the U.S. and Europe. Especially at this year's 15th anniversary hellfest open air
I love how there’s no need to flex his double bass skills or insane technical playing constantly as most drummers might do for a drum solo. This is about expression of an idea and it’s communicated so creatively, so hats off to you Mario and thank you for bringing your music to the world :))
Honestly I agree with u so much. What I like about Mario is that he just focuses on groove, rhythm and honestly his precision and stick placement. He doesn't really focus on speed and blast beats. But u can hear some jazz influences in this solo
@@anthonyvenedicto518 ya I feel that’s what makes him so unique compared to the other drummers who play similar styles of metal he actually has groove which I feel a lot of those other drummers lack
Gojira getting Band of the year and Mario getting drummer of the year is amazing. I have loved all of their music from Terra to Fortitude. Mario is the "backbone" of the band.
Mario is one of the few older school drummers who truly keeps evolving year after year. Sure we all knew he was great after The Link Alive, his speed and stamina were otherworldly. Eventually TWOAF dropped with the increasingly tasty nuances and grooves, and since then he just keeps getting BETTER somehow by combining the raw power of the early years with the mind bending arrangements of recent years. The true reigning champ of metal drumming
Usually it tends to be that once a band becomes successful they will stop practicing and stay at the level they are , only to play every few year or so But everyone in gojira is constantly improving because of consistent practice
Always such an inspirational drum solo by Mario. As a drummer of 15 years, I'm always looking for new inspiration to change up my style and he never disappoints
I love this guy's approach to drum solos. Far too many drum solos are nothing but endless fills without any distinguishable sense of theme, motif, or dynamics. In pretty much all his solos, Mario somehow manages to strike a solid balance of theme, groove, and chops, with just enough variation in each to keep things interesting.
Respectfully, I disagree. This solo is repetitive and doesn't have any sense of "movement" as in there is an obvious progression to the musical journey. This solo by Jordan Cannata does. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-y15_F0ftT3Q.html
Man played 3 different rhythms at once and barely an ounce of stress on that face. Drummers are nuts, man. This is an example of going from an instrument being a tool for expression, to an instrument becoming a part of yourself entirely. That’s incredible.
Très bon... Mais Damien Smith est plus fort En france le plus monstrueux c est Damien Attention j ai dis en france Car aux states le niveau et encore supérieur la c est hors niveaux
The groove, dynamics, speed, and complexity are obviously amazing. But the real stars are Mario’s endurance and accuracy. To be able to play something like this with such tenacity and to not miss a beat is testament to Mario’s skill. Incredible!
Hey Mario, I just want to say that you guys were a huge part in helping me get through prison. I was handed The Way of All Flesh, and it blew my mind. I can't thank you guys enough. I love your music in my bones. God bless you guys.
Mario dropped this on my birthday. I got a birthday present from my favorite drummer of all time, thank you Mario can't wait to see you and Gojira live again.
One of the best and most complete drum solo videos I've ever seen, it has it all: 1. An incredibly talented and experienced musician with many technical skills, full of expression, authentic style and a story to tell. 2. The drum selection and tuning are just perfect. 3. The audio engineering is amazing, preserving the sound of the drums and cymbals with incredible accuracy 4. The aesthetics of the video montage (artist and drums in the foreground), nothing clumsy or distracting (no mics, no wires, no backgrounds, excellent framing and balance). Congratulations to the entire team of highly professional and perfectionist people involved!
I like the energy, and also how you manage to do your own interpretation in a very musical way, I think that unlike other drummers you have your own and unique sound. And that's Amazing Mario! I'm a huge fan of your Drumming. 🥁🥁🦍
See you in 2023 à Paris!! Take care!!
Stopped listening to metal in the 90's, because other styles piqued my interest. A friend recommended Gojira, about two months ago, and I swear I haven't binged on music like this since I was a kid. This whole band is just fucking fantastic. And I support their stance on the Amazon! #SaveTheAmazon #FuckCorporateGreed
Yeah I got into Ornette Coleman and Coltrane et al and didn't look back for a couple decades.... I've heard the name Gojira a few times... but I thought it was used disparagingly. Regardless, This however is totally my vibe so down this rabbit hole I go! What else have I missed in metal??
BRO!!!!! Their whole fucking discography. You'll get sooo many amazing surprises like Dawn or Remembrance or In the wilderness or Flying whales or Love or Born for one thing or Sphinx or Born in winter or the art of dying bruh or the fucking art of dying
That solo sounds awesome asf I love those chops, crossovers and licks. I can't wait for your performance with Gojira at hellfest this summer. P.S. I would love for you to play this at a live show.
The thing i love about Mario the most is that his cymabls are almost unused but you never feel like they are missing. The skill in that detail alone is unbelivable. Oh and that second cowbell off time to the first was a masterstroke.
Alors tout d'abord : more cowbell !!
Wow, as a music teacher that I am for so many years already, I just have something to say, awesome drumming from the beginning till the end, also this awesome drummer is so inspirational not only to me but, for whom ever watches and listens this again, awesome drum solo, aplausos Orale, keep on rocking you guys🎼🎼🎵🎵🥁🥁🥁🥁🤘🤘🤘👏👏👏‼️
Mario I came up in the 80's when every metal drummer, good or bad, had to have a 10mn solo and I've heard them all and your solos are some of the best ever they're innovative, unique, technical, powerful and just mapped out fantastically and as far as originality goes other than your obvious talent your way of coming up with original groove patterns is second to none you've made a fan outta me.....keep elevating your game..... peace✌🏾🥁🧘🏾♂️
Words can’t describe how much I want his Tama Rockstar setup 🥵 No point in commenting on how amazing the solo was as you won’t read my comment… But the solo was AMAZING! 💪
Hell yes!!!! Mario never fails to disappoint....I like the new additions to his kit, those different cowbell and springs....Mario has always been ahead of his time and redefined double bass and syncopation...loving the new kit too...nice dusky color to the wood and cymbals as well....Can't wait see them when they come thru New England...Peace from the Northeast....
On est clairement sur une cloche des alpages 😂😆 nan plus sérieusement, solo qui transcende, puissance et intensité font la marque de ce f*** best drummer all of Time !!! Merci Mario
There are a lot of times I get down on myself and drum skill for having a linear drumming style. Then, Mario comes around and shows how to take linear techniques and expand them into something more. Thank you sir for showcasing your creativity and talent with these solos. It not only rocks, but gives inspiration to try something new. Keep breaking creative barriers 🤘
Such a beautiful solo. I remember the first time I heard him. It was after rehearsal with the band I was in at the time, and it was when From Mars to Sirius first came out. We pulled up to my place, and we just sat in the car and listened to the album without even talking. Hearing Mario play like this is so incredible. If you watch his attack during each new section, he's over-emphasizing the first few bars in order to make you know where he thinks the "1" is--he's educating you, visually, as if to say, "this is how I'm feeling it". When you watch him play, you can choose to groove, learn, or both. Mario's drumming really speaks to my musical heart.
