Imagine in real life if a walkoff home run was going to go way over the fence only for Cody Berlinger to literally launch Mookie Betts into the air 20 feet to snag it
Two thoughts: 1) Calling me baby Luigi made me cry and I demand an apology 2) I am willing to accept my apology in the form of doing this analysis for every player in Mario Superstar Baseball
I didn't know I needed to hear about Yoshi's baserunning and defensive skills in the outfield but it has changed my life thank you Bailey. Now I can truly appreciate the value Yoshi has on the diamond
He got the comp very wrong though. It’s pretty clear to me that when Nintendo made this game the intention was for Yoshi to be Ichiro, Nintendo even owned the Seattle Mariners at the time for crying out loud.
This game is so sick, we've got a pretty cool competitive community around it that we've been trying to grow a lot lately. I do content for it on my channel and there are a few others like Dinger City if you want to see more Mario Baseball!
There's a whole discord and competitive/casual community for this game!!!! It's a terrific and amazing made game that still lives on today for a reason!!! Some of the best people I've ever met are in there so if anyone loves this game still just know it's not dead!!!
That’s because “perfect” contact is based off of where on the bat you hit the ball, not the timing of the swing. If you hit directly on the sweet spot you get perfect, slightly inside or outside is “nice” and too much inside is the sour spot :)
You should do this with Mario Super Sluggers. For me I compare Waluigi to Clayton Kershaw. He doesn't throw as hard as in superstar baseball but has nasty movement on his pitches and has a killer 12-6 curveball
@@PipeGuy64Bit You can hate on any game for sensible reasons, but you can play without items if it doesn’t suit your fancy, so I don’t personally see that as a serious complaint that can’t be addressed by toggling it off; it gives more variety and options as a video game which I appreciate. These are just my opinions, so you’re free to disagree. Anyways, I agree with you about the forced motion controls even though, admittedly, I’d go far as to say I really enjoy playing with them even though I prefer not to. They definitely should’ve at least had GameCube controller support, but the closest thing to a standard control for this game, I have to settle for a side ways Wii remote, which I mainly play with.
@@PipeGuy64Bit what i did was emulate the game on my computer and make configure the wii controllers to a gamecube control. it might be awkward when selecting characters but once the game starts i set it up as the wii control being sideways and it plays perfectly.
In the opening film of this game, Luigi literally gets on top of the outfield wall and leaps off of it to rob a no-doubt home run. Imagine if Mike Trout, Mookie Betts, or Ronald Acuña did that in a game.
"when you step into that batter's box and see a guy wearing overalls - you're propably gonna strike out" still love this line. we need more of this type of vid.
I always thought that was pretty obviously intentional. Like are you telling me the only character with a Japanese name just happens to be a speed/contact/defense guy and isn’t intended to be Ichiro? I mean come on, Nintendo even owned the Mariners when this game came out.
Finally, the perfect intersection of my two primary interests: sports analysis, and obscure Mario spinoff titles Some general thoughts on the analysis provided: Mushroom League Baseball (MLB for short) emphasizes how well characters work together in a way that real baseball doesn't. As a result, I find it's usually more valuable to emphasize pure speed in the outfield over throwing strength, and put characters in the infield that have good charisma with your outfielders. This gives a boost to your outfield's throwing power that makes up for the difference. Bowser has incredible speed on his fastball but his curveball has comparitively pitiful velocity. Also, he has an obvious visual cue in his windup that gives away when he's throwing the heater. To be fair, most of the game's most powerful batters have the same issue. Totally agree on Petey at catcher and Daisy at short, as well as your thoughts on Yoshi and Toadette. thought that was all spot on. Baby Luigi is probably where we differ the most. Baby Luigi has no power, but his speed on the base paths is #1 in the entire league; If you don't have a good catcher it's literally impossible to throw him out when he steals second. And you didn't mention this but I just wanna say, Peach Garden is the most pitcher friendly park ever conceived. Massive towering walls all the way around the outfield (10 feet high in the corners and 30 feet high in straightaway center) and floating blocks that knock down deep fly balls, and per ground rules a ball that strikes a block is still catchable for an out.
The first green dinosaur Yoshi seems to be Ichiro to me. First of all, Yoshi seems to be a japanese name . He has great bat control. Very consistent hitter. And you said he is very good base runner and great at stealing bases.. and then again, he is the best defender of the team... seems pretty Ichiro-ish to me!
I played so much of this game as a kid. It honestly was a big part of my first love for baseball. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for this video Bailey
I always used real life baseball logic when I made my teams in that game. In this game I always used the piranha as my first baseman rather than as a catcher, but it makes sense for that character to be a catcher.
Absolutely love Mario Superstar Baseball! I play it quite a bit on my channel and I’m part of a channel called Dinger City that’s all about playing the game professionally with lots of deep dives into the meta of the game. Check it out if you’re curious to learn more about the game! We also have a link to a MSSB discord in all our video descriptions!
Just trying to grow the community, the MSSB discord has almost 1000 members and we'd love to see it gain a competitive following. It's awesome to have someone like FB put a spotlight on the game and join our community!
I'd say King Boo is more appropriate for Ohtani. The home run hitting ability is the biggest reason, but also because KB has a much better arm in the field than Boo, while still being a decent pitcher.
This is fantastic. I've been comparing the Wii follow-up, Mario Super Sluggers, to real baseball for years (so much so that I did a fictional league of that game with a friend of mine). Would honestly love to see a similar video with that game, if it's something you're able to do.
Yo this video is sick!! We actually play this game competitively on our channel! You should definitely come check us out and maybe even join the Mario Superstar Baseball Discord server!
Probably one of my favorite games of all time. I love it more than the more popular Mario Sluggers. The gameplay is just so smooth and fun, I still play it when I have the time. Btw Petey Pirahnna is an underrated SS, cannon arm can make plays from deep in the hole and is a ridiculous relay man.
My favorite part of this video? Jorge Soler's homerun. Best moment in my sports viewing life, besides maybe Matzek's 7th inning in G6 of the NLCS. ...The Mario stuff is cool though too.
Absolutely loved this but you didnt mention daisy is a Nasty pitcher with break and command. Here’s my list Magikoopa-Matt Chapman elite glove with above avg offensive production Wario-Max Muncy Good power elite contact good defense at 1st Birdo-Manny Machado Good defense at short or 3rd with clutch good hitting Boo-Robbie Ray Lefty who struggles with filling the strike zone a bit too much, elite K/9 Monty Mole-Whit Merrifield like 3 years ago/Josh Rojas today Speed contact defense can play IF or OF
Awesome video! Me and my roommate in college used to play Mario Super Sluggers every day after classes. We NEED a Mario baseball game on the Switch. They gave Mario Tennis and Golf... soooo close!!!
Thanks for this! I haven't gotten around to buying a memory card for my wii, so my copy of mario superstars baseball just sits on my shelf, waiting for me to buy the memory card. I play the game elsewhere, but I need to get a memory card so I can play it on my own console.
Dang you really nailed it. The superstar game is suprisingly down to earth with player capabilities that realisticly fit into pretty natural baseball archtypes and positions.
I'm glad you created a video around Mario Baseball on the Gamecube, I always preferred it to the Nintendo Wii version. I still play Mario Superstar Baseball to this day.
Imagine hitting line drives all the time and having a low BABIP but then be given the ability to launch banana peels and turtle shells at the outfielders.
I had envisioned Yoshi being like Trout since both are my favorite. Once you said Mookie and explained was I sold on it as he is also an amazing baseball player.
I had sluggers for the Wii and my lineup was like the 2012 Tigers… DK, Bowser, Petey, a bunch of fast player, and for my pitchers I had Daisy and Peach lol. Petey was always catcher. He never moved
My team in Mario baseball consists of Bowser, Petey Piranha, King Boo, Donkey Kong, Funky Kong, Birdo, Yoshi and Mario. Many powerhouses with a few all arounders to make it even better.
