That tweet perfectly highlights what often trends on Japan twitter, Naoe. Naoe is short for “Nao enjeruzu” meaning “but the angels“ emphasizing Japanese media articles that focus on Shohei’s performance while the Angels get the L. It’s also a pun since Naoe was a warlord with love as his symbol during the warring era of Japan.
this angels season is unreal lol. the strong start, to the historical losing streak, to tungesten odoyle stuffs, to phil nevin and the brawl. it just doesn't get much more entertaining / heartbreaking.
Shohei Ohtani went 3-for-5 with 2 HRs. Angels hit 7 solo HRs total on the day. The Angels ended up losing to the Athletics 8 to 7. That is peak Tungsten Arm O'Doyle right there.
As an Angels fan, this makes me sick. My fear is not one, but both of them leave. The fact that we can' t put together a competent squad of pitching for TWO generational players and two top five players in the league is insane. IMO the offense is there. Jared Walsh is solid. Taylor Ward has hit well this year. Unfortunately, Rendon is hurt and out for the season, but our lineup can be feared. Doesn't matter with pitching.
I mean trout is locked in till 2035 so I doubt he will but yeah Ohtani might in 2 years. Especially because as of right now with the Rendon contract on the books I don't see how you can afford him. He legit might make 50mil/year.
The offense ISN'T there.....at least it hasn't been. They went on a long stretch of scoring 3 runs or less in 10 games in a row or something like that. The bottom of their order is atrocious. They just can't put everything together at once (hitting, starting pitching, defense, bullpen) consistently. If they do, they are an above average team that will scare even the best teams. Until then, they are pure madness.
Nah the rest of your lineup has a .500-.600 OPS. Idc if you have trout or ohtani if any potential rally created by them/Walsh/rendon is going to get squashed by Andrew velazquez Tyler wade matt duffy etc
That tweet feels like the baseball version of hockey's classic "Mark Donk" tweet: The Penguins always have like eight injuries and twelve call ups I've never heard of. The call is like "Malkin gains the zone with wingers Mark Donk and Buzz Flibbet" and you look and they both have 47 points
Meh, Tungsten "Arm" O'Doyle was pretty solid with the '21 Groomsmen, but I feel like his incredible run with the 1919-1920 Schenectady Fishmongers, after his return from serving with the Lost Battalion on the Western Front, is criminally overlooked.
O’Doyle himself was also “criminally overlooked”, as he was let off on $5 bail after shaving off with a rusty screw the mustache and hair of former teammate Ezekiel “Fatso” Williamson, who died of his injuries.
Tonight's one is the cream of the crop so far 4IP, 4Ks, 0ER 2-2, Single, Homerun (40), SB, 2BB (1IBB), 1RBI, 2R they lost to the Mariners 5-3 after a 9th inning grand slam
July 8th 2022 at Camden Yards Trout goes 3-5 with 3 rbi's and a stolen base and not wanting to lose the game Ohtani adds an insurance homerun at the top of the ninth capping of a 3-5 night himself. All looks fine and dandy for the Angles in the bottom of the 9th as closer Raisel Iglesias takes the mound which then he would proceed to blow the lead, then gave up a walk off single to 2021 comeback player of the year Trey Mancini. The Angels that day had 4 runs on 12 hits and no errors while the O's score 5 runs on 10 hits and 1 error.
You forgot to mention with the 8 RBI loss that it was the *first* time in MLB history that a player has had 8 RBI in a game and his team has never held the lead
@@deadlves He means that Ohtani stands alone in the fact that his squad never led. The other 3 instances, their team led the game at SOME point. Moreno needs to be thanking his lucky stars that Oakland, Cincinnati, and Pittsburgh exist. Because if those organizations were run by even middling owners (I'm talking Wilpons here), he'd have a much bigger spotlight on his ineptitude.
July 28, 2022: Shohei Ohtani strikes out 11 over 6 innings, including three consecutive strikeouts to get out of a bases-loaded, no out jam in the 1st, for his sixth consecutive start with 10+ Ks, as the Rangers defeated the Angels 2-0.
As frustrating as it is to watch for the fans, imagine how the players must feel 💀. You really can't blame people debating which team Ohtani's gonna leave for every 5 minutes.
Dang I didnt even think about it like that lol. You have the two best players in the league as teammates and you're not even good enough to help them win. Thats gotta sting.
Trout made own bed . . . he could have gone to free agency and signed with anyone . . . but nope . . . he decided to extend for the rest of his life with the Angels. He could have gotten more money and a much better chance of winning . . . heck he could have still stayed in Southern California, horrible decision.
@@trengilly01 Trout made his decision, and it was a good one for him. The Angels don't have a clue as to how to build a team. Regardless of what Trout did.
This man risked a stable career in Japan to take a bet on himself and get absolutely underpaid to prove he's the best player in baseball and the Angels can even beat the Rangers in the standings. The guy deserves better.
Immanuel, im an avid angels fan and you dont understand what its like to just be disappointed every season because we have the worst owner/front office in baseball.
August 4, 2022: Shohei Ohtani accounts for two of the Angels' MLB record-tying seven solo home runs in a single game, as the Athletics defeat the Angels 8-7.
4:20 - "So far in 2022, this is the only game in which a player had 3 extra base hits, reached base in every plate appearance, and lost." Well, Nolan Arenado just did the same thing, hitting for the cycle (4-for-4) and losing 3-5.
133. hmm. thats interesting because mike trout played in 134 games in 2019. I'm not entirely sure what this means, but all signs point towards the angels missing the playoffs
Most people think "Tungsten Arm" O'Doyle was called that on account of his given name being Wolfram, but it actually comes from an incident during the 1918 playoffs. Facing the last place Fulton Rosebuds, temperatures on the field briefly reached 6191.6ºF and O'Doyle's pitching arm turned to liquid. He was replaced by a young Orville "Steamboat" Chalmers in the 4th, but the Groomsmen failed to rally and went on to lose 8-3.
Well Sugar Tooth Jones throwing a 19 strikeout perfect game in the 1800s against the cleveland spiders and also having 8 RBI's is still the goat performanc!
New Tungsten Arm game 7/8/22! Mike Trout goes 3-5 with a 3 run homer, and Ohtani goes 3-5 with a solo shot! Orioles win 5-4! Got to see this one in person and it was electric!
Welp, add another Tungsten Arm O'Doyle game to the list. 7/8/2022, Ohtani and Trout both went 3-for-5, both homered, and both combined for 4 RBIs. The Angels went on to lose that game.
8/18/2023 Rays vs Angels in Angel Stadium Ohtani: 2-for-5 with a grand slam Angels: Turned a triple play in the same game. They went on to lose 9-6 in extras. I swear, you can't make this stuff up.
Fun snippet of information related to the Angel loss 4:21: the night this video released the Cardinals met the Phillies for the first of a three game series and Nolan Arenado went 4 for 4, hitting for the cycle in a 5-3 Cardinal loss, thus becoming the second player this season to have at least three XBH and reach base in every plate appearance but his team still not win the game.
Completely random but I thought about your content. I was watching a tribute video to Luis Gonzalez (the diamond back not the Rockie or the giant) and the year he hit 57 home runs he also won the home run derby. I remember the abreu and choi stories how the derby ruins their seasons. I wonder how true that is?
Well, Ohtani did hit a homerun in the recent three-game sweep to the Astros over the weekend in which Angels hitters were struck out 48 times, but his co-greatest-player-in-the-MLB Mike Trout went 0-for-11 with 9 strikeouts. Not even the Akron Groomsmen could've accomplished that.
Ohtani breaking up Tyler Anderson's no hitter in the 9th pretty much is the nutshell of his entire time in Anaheim so far. And this is from a Dodger fan.
Tungsten Arm O'Doyle must've been a NIGHTMARE to face way back when. Not just because of his skill, but because at 4:52 we see he's a LITERAL LOVECRAFTIAN NIGHTMARE.
I was there at the game on May 29th! Me and my dad went there just becuase we wanted to see Ohtani. Ohtani and Stassi carried that game HARD but unfortuanately the angels bullpen had to ruin it. It was still an amazing game and I suppose it doesn't really matter if they won or not. The Angels are definetly cursed
His original nickname was 'Handsome' O'Doyle, but this led to a scuffle with the 1919 Kokomo Haberdashers when the 'Dashers own 'Handsome' O'Doyle took offense.
Crazy how Akron's O'Doyle lost 1.5 eyes and 78% of his right eyebrow in that brouhaha, but still went and pitched a perfecto the very next day against a STACKED Chula Vista Slobberknockers lineup.
I'm betting it's gonna be the same thing that happened to trout, he'll be a year or 2 away from free agency and the media won't stop asking where he's going to the point it gets so annoying he just signs an extention
@@deathminder9206 There's another team a bit up the road that has figured out that winning thing. I don't think Trout would go for it, but I could totally see Ohtani in Dodger Blue.
Looks like we got ourselves another ‘Tungsten Arm’ O’Doyle in the works. Ohtani has one hr VS the astros already and they’re currently getting crushed 8-1
It's almost like when you pay two players 1/3rd of your entire club's revenue, there's no way you can field a well rounded team. If Ohtani goes somewhere else, it will be the exact same problem because he's going to get $50 schmill no question and be a similar cash sink to Trout, Harper, etc. Barring him going to the Yankees (0% chance, they're top of the majors and have a rock solid team chemistry already) or Red Sox (possible, but still very unlikely, I don't think they'll be making any blockbuster moves after this season), there's not many markets big enough to have the ability to blow a huge chunk of their payroll on one player and still field a contending team.
@@keizenameriks851 not Ohtani, Trout and Rendon. I meant Ohtani is going to get bank from someone when his contract is up and will be a similar payroll burden.
Baseball is the ultimate team sport. You can have the greatest hitter of our era and arguably the MOST VERSATILE PLAYER OF ALL TIME and the other 7 guys on the field can make that completely null and void. Honestly one of the reasons why I quit playing in high school. I can't even imagine how frustrated these 2 guys are (I know they make GREAT money but still, they have to be upset to a certain extent)
It's not a "Tungsten Arm" game, but if you want a crazy Angels game to do a video about, you have to look at 6/23/2021 against the Giants. Just a few highlights from among the befuddling array of weirdness in that one: - It was the first (and now only) game in the single-league-DH era where an NL team used a DH while an AL team did not. - Because of this, the Angels ran out of position players, and had to bring in an outfielder to catch after Kurt Suzuki was injured by a foul ball, and bring in a pitcher to play left field. - The Angels thought they'd walked it off in the 12th inning (complete with celebratory fireworks, "Angels Win!" on the big board, announcements of a final score), but the "safe" call at the plate was overturned on review. - After scoring 2 runs combined in the first 12 innings, the Giants rallied for 7 runs in the 13th - the first two of which scored without a hit or an error. The rally concluded with Mike Tauchman getting within one strike of becoming the first Giant ever to strike out 6 times in a game...before launching a 3-run home run on the next pitch. The Giants went on to win 9-3.
As an Angels fan that is very possible dude is a beast at fenway, however Shohei has stated many times he wants to stay in the west with a team doesn't have a crazy media presence like the Yankees or Dodgers, so the more likely teams he'll sign with are the Angels, Giants, Padres, or maybe even the Mariners
Something to consider while watching this, Yankees have lost 1 time vs 20+ something wins in games where both Judge and Stanton homer. Good teams win when their best players play well. In the Angels case, they still often lose.
@@tootspogsforever5590 How? He's just saying the Yankees can backup their star players performances while the Angels miserably fail at it. It's pretty logical.
This reminds of when verlander was on the tigers and would have 10 Ks, 0 BB and 1 hit through 8 innings and the tigers would lose 3-0 thanks to the bullpen.
