I'm not very familiar with marjoram but definitely willing to give it a try!! I was sooooo excited this morning... I found "4" monarch cats on my tiny little patch of milkweed!!!! My 1st ones!! YAY!!! Gotta find some more milkweed for next season!!! Looking forward to all of your new videos.... Enjoy Scotland!

Wow! HOW did I miss this?! SO good to hear about the Monarchs and how your little patch has helped them on their journey, I know the numbers have sadly plummeted so I expect they were very grateful for this resting and recuperation spot - well done you! I'm sure you're aware already of the huge plummet in numbers - this is interesting but relatively sad reading, but I know you like extra info :) www.statista.com/chart/20716/monarch-butterfly-population-decline/

We did co-planting with marjoram, tomatoes around or gooseberry bush this year. It worked really well, they all grew well and the marjoram kept the bugs of the tomatoes which kept the sawfly off the gooseberry!

Thank you Mark - sorry I missed your comment. We were actually really lucky re midges, but we did have dry sunny weather so that may have helped somewhat, typically I brought about 3 cans of anti-midge spray and didn't use it! Best wishes - Joel

Well I learnt something new, I have what I’ve always known as Oregano in my garden and thought I should get some wild marjoram too but it actually is wild marjoram. It is an amazing insect magnet as you point out and a worthy plant for wildlife gardens. I have clay soil and it copes very well there too considering the soil gets very wet in the winter, it’s spread everywhere which I love.

So good to hear Tracey :) It certainly is in the Top 10 for pollinator attracting abilities and I was so pleased to see it doing so well in this setting :) Thanks for letting us know re it's abilities on clay soil too - best wishes, Joel

Hey Mick :) Just back! What a place! I couldn't get enough, and of course have lots of video to upload - I'll get onto that soon. One thing I did notice is the amount of insects stuck to the car (unfortunately) but it does show how many more insects there are in these beautiful places, something that used to be a common sight (insects on car grilles etc!) when back from a long journey when I was a kid. Thank you again for all your support :) Best wishes, Joel

I also find Marjoram a very good nectar source for many insects, I think the area you videoed there is showing a really good crop, even a Small Copper in there feeding, I even saw a late female Large Blue on our Marjoram area yesterday, a sign that the weather has been very cold and damp this year, but at least they have a good food source, a lot more Lavender grown around here this year, so that will be another good nectar source for our butterflies, say safe, and enjoy your break, although I am sure you will be working throughout your holiday! Sweet meadow. I just added some marjoram EO to my body butter and it has a uniquely delightful, herbal scent that lifts the senses and spirits. No wonder insects are so drawn to it. I've always cooked with marjoram and have enjoyed the results, but the EO is out of this world.

Hi Joel, I bought a pot of marjoram from B&M and planted it in my garden. Soil is more clay and I mixed it with some compost. It’s got a lot of new growth but there are yellow spots on the leaves. Tried spraying with an organic if spray, work for my maple but not the marjoram. Wondering what the spots could be. Help greatly appreciated as this is my first herb garden that I’ve been wanting for many years

@@WildYourGardenWithJoelAshton I have your latest video lined up to watch Joel. Yes, Scotland blew me away when I visited some years ago 👍. I have also noticed beautiful little mint moths on the marjoram. No surprise really with a large section of mint not far away. They are great to see, especially as they are active during the day. Off up to Trailcam Wood now to check those Trailcams. Newly emerged fledged barn owl youngsters have now appeared on camera having climbed out of the sanctuary of their oak hollow roost and nest site. Exciting stuff. Keep up the great work Joel. Paul 👍😊
