When referring to her taped interviews it was either, "that's not what I meant ", "it's been doctored". or "oh that was so long ago" But when her own lawyer asked about Jan 6th she could all of the sudden recall every little detail! Every little detail except the fact that she said she didn't communicate with anyone outside the Capitol while hiding on the House floor (she texted Mark Meadows), and the fact that she didn't actually think it was BLM or Antifa outside (she texted Mark Meadows asking Trump to stop the assault and made a tape for Trump supporters asking them to be peaceful). But even while she was being questioned by the plaintiff's lawyer, she showed clear recollection when she wanted to. After she claimed not to remember asking people to "flood the capitol [building]," for a 2019 protest, they played a tape of her remarks, and then she said it was irrelevant because it was 2019, citing the exact date of the protest from memory.

In the law, for normal people, there are consequences for perjury. But rich republicans, for some reason, no one wants to do the laws already on the books. It's a legal can of worms. Number one they don't want to open themselves up to removal. Number two what is the line between insurrection and free speech? Can you imagine putting anyone who voiced support for Black Lives Matter protestors before this right wing Supreme Court? Ultimately, it's says in Amendment 14 section 3 that Congress can override removals, so it might be an exercise in futility. The writers wanted to keep the former confederate sympathizers in line without immediately replacing them.
