On Friday 26 March 2004 Mark Radcliffe and Marc Riley broadcast their last afternoon show on BBC Radio 1. Marking the event was the BBC1 North West arts programme Powerhouse presented by Gill Mills. Broadcast on 29 March 2004.
Will always remember the summers as a teenager listening to these in the garden. Absolutely brilliant memories and genuinely the last time i laughed at the radio.
I hardly ever missed a show. Nothing has touched it or even come close since on Radio 1. I never rated them in the mornings but they were perfect for that afternoon slot.
The last time i listened to Radio 1 was Mark n Lard's final show... they rocked...they made me laugh like a loon and finally they made me cry... i miss you guys n the daft, crazy stuff you did..... STOP!!!
Walked out of the studio while it was playing without telling anyone, leaving about two minutes of dead air after the record finished. Basically sticking two fingers up to the idiots who cancelled their show.
I remember that like it was yesterday. When Sara Cox came on after, I switched off the radio and just sat in silence for a bit. I've never listened to Radio 1 since.
Stuart B I remember that too. I have the show somewhere, never listened to it back in full since. I more or less did the same as you. They ran over 3pm by 10 mins, I just sat there listening with my dad. Switched off and just thought about it all when Outkast on the emergency tape came on.
Please BBC bring these two radio gods back together and make us smile and laugh again especially in these strange times with this covid 19 shit going on
Hit The North on the (good) original Radio 5 when they could play the music they liked was better than Peel at the time. Over the years they got even better, sadly the music we had to suffer didn't 😂 daytime does that to ya.
