Seeing it at first in real-time I was baffled what happened there. The slow-mo reveleals a lot, and it reminds how easy it is to take slow-mo footage out of context and make something look dirty or what not. Boro just collided to the backboards and the puck was a bit out of reach, so he leaned forward towards the puck, while Frost simply kept his lane to finish the very benign hit. Very unfortunate, and very random but in the end it's hockey. No one did anything malicious, the dice just rolled this way.
@@DannyConcepts can you not watch the video? Its pretty obvious what happens, you arnt in 3rd grade are you you? You dont need everything explained to you
Yup nhl is a family they care for one another no matter what team you play for your all family friends at the end of the game when real life situations like this happen you come together. No one wants to see anyone hurt. Everyone is playing hockey cause they love it n they all got one goal in mind to win the Stanley Cup
@@WaddickLawnCare Well obviously he got knocked out. What I'm saying is "How?" The impact to the boards and from Frost didn't seem knockout-worthy...it seemed tame.
@@pwrofrob Well, no matter how hard you train and prepare your body for physical punishment, the head and the brain cannot be trained for hits. Even a seemingly mild hit can knock anyone out. First, B was in a very low position when he reached for the puck. Second, and very importantly, the hit made his head rotate. That's integral for knocking someone out. As many boxers know, a straight hit to the forehead might not knock someone out. If you swing from the side and rotate the head, the opponent is out. The brain is a very sensitive body part, and we need to protect it at almost all costs. The hit is much worse than people think. His finger was twisted, which often is a sign of a disconnection between the brain's nerve signals and the muscles. My guess, severe concussion. Given this, there are things all hockey players should do. 1. Never reach. 2. Keep your head up 3. Don't send suicide passes. 4. When hitting other players, even if they have trash-talked you or injured a team-mate, do not hit his head. If you do hit a player by mistake in the head - grab him, and make sure that his head do not him the ice. From a statistical point of view, it's a miracle that only one fatality has been recorded. However, if players adhere to 1-4 above, risks are lowered.
Update: he has been released from the hospital with no serious injuries btw. Good news glad he is "ok". Hate to see anything like this happen regardless of what team you cheer for.
@@rustynail1020 25-30 or so i never followed the sport super closely. Always enjoyed playing the game and catching clips once in a while. The Wpg Jets are my boys so maybe Byfuglien? Not sure if he counts but he was a brick wall on skates
@@HellionSol byfuglien for sure was solid!! he was a player more than a fighter, sure he could if he had to. anthony peluso called up from a.h.l. sometimes and he was good fighter! what ever happend to byfuglien??
exactly, especially considering morgan frost is a smaller player who is not known for being physical. really shows that a freak accident can get ugly really quickly in a sport this fast. big flyers fan here but i think i speak for every hockey fan when i say nobody wants to see that and we are all awaiting an update on Mark, hoping he will be back on the ice soon.
@@Dr.Frankensteen pre-lockout was the dead puck era - the hardest era to score in by a country mile. not sure about your comparison here, especally considering he isn't an offensive player either.
How he went into the boards is the same way Morgan Riley from the leafs went into th3 boards tonight as well scary to see and what makes me happy is the moment he shows and the sportsmanship the flyers shows is awesome that's love
These are such scary moments. I've unfortunately witnessed and help managed (as the off ice official) an incident similar to this in a 10u hockey game. Puck was frozen along the boards in a group and one kid accidentally got pushed over and his neck hit the top of the boards, had a few pinched nerves
When I was 10 I was chasing a kid on a breakaway, I was a defender and made a poor defensive play giving it up. The kid lost an edge and I went flying in the air head first into the boards like in the air perpendicular to the ice from before the goal line. I was hauling ass. I heard a whistle and woke up to both coaches and the 2 refs standing over me. I didnt feel any different once I came to. I had to leave the ice for a shift per the rules. I was pissed about that. Lol. My dad told me that's why my only non second hand equipment was a helmet lmao. He said it was the best $200 he ever spent (this was in the late 90s so it was a higher end one).
i was at this game, it was a really long time without him moving, we were really glad when we saw his limbs moving because we feared the worst. He was right outside my seats greeting fans at the draft earlier this year so he's doing well in retirement :)
Not much in the way of protection of the thoracic spine, or even the upper column in the those shoulder pad rigs. Considering the speed with which he was totally and completely lights out, and the footage of the hit, he may have had a spinal compression, considering his arms were extended that further exacerbates the spinal vulnerability at the point of Frost's very slight contact. Almost looked like Neurogenic Shock tbh. God be with him and his fam! Terrifying moment for sure!
I hope Boro is okay. This is another example of a referee reacting to the outcome of a collision, and not the collision itself. This isn’t a penalty. The ref didn’t need to raise his hand here. He only did it after seeing Boro laid out.
Mark is a “fearless” player and very loved by all. Guys like him are rare. I hope he’s ok. Sucked to watch that. Prayers for Mark and a speedy recovery
Loved by all? Dude has taken runs at tons of players for no other reason than to injure them. Let's not pretend he's some Saint here just because he got hurt.
What a warrior he is. At times he is guilty of pushing himself over his limits but this was just a "hockey play." Looks like Mark Borowiecki got lucky.
@@bc1173 Depends on how you look at it. I say lucky because it looks like he escaped a major career ending injury but unlucky he was injured at all with such minimal contact.
I was confused as to what happened, but this shows how even benign hits can turn into horror shows if you get hit at JUST THE RIGHT SPOT. Hopefully Borowiecki is alright...
As a Sens fan, I can tell you that Boro-cop is one of the toughest mofos in the league. To see him go down that long, that’s extra scary. It had to be bad. And knowing him, he probably wanted to get back in the game 20 minutes later. Lol Rest up, Boro. 💪
Damn, you know when "Borocop" goes down and doesn't get right back up, it's not good. Loved him when he played for the Sens (he's also an Ottawa boy), and still do as a Pred! Hopefully it's not too serious. Get well soon Mark!
this is just awful to see. Boro is such a heart and soul guy, seeing him down on the ice like that is terrible. hope he's able to make a full recovery, but I gotta think this is the end for his career. he's played hard his whole career, but it's taken a huge toll on his body, and concussions aren't something you fuck around with.
I've never had any sympathies for the Flyers. That sportsmanship changed my point of view for that specific group. Way to go and a quick recovery for the Preds player.
What we see on TV cameras isn’t the same thing the broadcasters see. They’re up in the box looking down on the ice following the entire play. This was behind the net, it’s easy to miss until you see a player lying flat not moving.
Looks like he was released from the hospital with no major injuries thankfully. Just a very awkward hit and unfortunate situation that must have hit his body weird and stunned it. Glad nothing major came of it.
He had to figure out if this was pre - season, regular season or playoffs and how long since the last commercial break. The pre game talks for the refs are given by actuaries and accountants these days. Media contracts are where the big money is so nothing else really matters.
Hate seeing anyone leave on a stretcher. No matter the team. Or player. If you wish someone to get seriously injured. What’s wrong with you?? Like. Come on
My heart started racing when he hit the boards; the angle was weird, and i knew he was hurt. Prayers for him and his family. Hate seeing players getting hurt like that. I am a flyers fan, but a hockey fan as well. Well wishes❤❤
Hopefully he's gona be okay. Can someone explain to me why the dasher dasherboard isn't flush with the glass? I'm sure there has to be a legitimate reason.
I always thought these weird ones that look so harmless are what would actually happen if regular people like me took one of those basic hits against the boards that those guys do a dozen times a night. Ya never know with these, sometimes that's the last time you see them on the ice in an NHL uniform.
glad to see both sides seemed concerned about his condition, but honestly I’m not sure what happened because the hit didn’t even seem that heavy, or bad.
Just a freak play. Hope he's okay. In that last replay, it seems like hes at least lucky he didnt hit his chin on the ice cuz that could have made the situation a lot worse
Borowiecki had sparred with the Flyers' Nicolas Deslauriers earlier in the night, he had this to say: "You don’t wish that to anybody," I think it was an automatic, especially for me, to go knock on his pads, but I’m trying to get his phone number now and send him a text. Outside of hockey, we’re all humans. Those are things you don’t want to see. I think it was a weird accident there." Even after throwing hands its all respect.
Ref didn't put his arm up until he realized, wait he's hurt. It is either a penalty or not. Shouldn't be based on the result (drew blood means double or major, no blood just two minutes). Great game but a weird aspect of it.
Notice how the referee's arm didn't go up until he saw the player on the ice not moving? He thought the play was good until he thought "Uh oh, I must've missed something" lol
It was just unfortunate thing, it didn't even look that hard, but something happened, because his neck twisted to the dasher and at the same time he hit his jaw there
@@WaddickLawnCare sure I didnt know they were these great, hard pool noodle otter box foam I see here. Mine were really simple plastic covers... ** ok maybe I was re-using found shipping items I found at Dick's or Scheels, or whatever. the ol' Vapor6's need a sharpen regardless
@@pretzelhunt haha I do remember the plastic ones that’s usually what I had but I remember a few richer kids always had fancy ones like what your talking about.
Probably the least significant part of this: I don't know what happened here WRT penalties, but the referees can only review this play if they call a major penalty. So in this case (and lots of others, where this doesn't happen), the ref should have called a major penalty, then reviewed it (and nullified the original call, since there was no penalty). The NHL should change the rules to allow plays to be reviewed (shortly) after the fact, without having to call anything first. But, they allow the referees to review goals without calling anything first and that rarely happens, so would the referees even use the ability?
@@WaddickLawnCare What needs to be reviewed is situations where the referee suspects something may have happened but didn't actually see it. Your choice: bad calls or a review and maybe the right (non)call?
