"UPDATE: #CBJ Kuraly suffered an abdominal injury. While his injury does not appear to be serious at this time, he will be taken to Grant Medical Center for further evaluation"
To the announcers: Emergency trauma medicine is a whole different animal than standard medical care. That's why they were calling for the people that are specialized in handling those kinds of situations even though they have a team doctor. Not to mention if it had been a serious life threatening situation you need the EMTs to bring a stretcher and prep the patient for transport and everything else.
Not only to the announcers. This is to everyone. I'm the spouse of a emergency medicine physician and the things they're trained to deal with are very different than a generalist. There are specialties in medicine for a reason.
Could be a ruptured spleen. Happened to a guy on my lax team years ago - got sandwiched and seemed innocuous enough, but ended up needing a medevac and almost died from internal bleeding. Hope he's ok.
Could be rib, collapsed lung, maybe even a commotio cordis event (look it up - it happened to Chris Pronger once). Could also be the hit from McCabe. Who knows. Not really worth speculating, IMO.
From Twitter: Per #CBJ spokesman, Sean Kuraly was evaluated at Grant Medical Center, but not admitted. He was sent home Saturday evening after battery of tests proved negative. Unclear how much time, if any, he’ll miss. Don’t expect an update from club until after the three-day holiday break.
Bruins fan here who has nothing but love and respect for Kuraly. Stand up dude, and solid player who always puts the team first. Hate to see this happen to (almost) any player on the ice, but especially hate when it happens to a good dude like him.
Not the new ones in the most none aggressive hockey league in the history of the NHL lmao 😂😂😂😂 now the ol players.... those are the warriors!!!! Punch out a row of teeth And keep going while the stitches are still bleeding and than slash the guy across his head or the classic patrick roy or Hasek fights or ol drunk belfor fighting with everyone 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 nowadays its like watching two lesbians slap each other 😂😂😂😂
@@peterkozak1291god ain't real bro. No one's listening to your prayers except the voices in your head, and that's not god. Maybe do something meaningful with your life instead of offering thoughts and fucking prayers. Fucking worthless garbage from you people.
Surprised this doesn't happen more in pro hockey. I've had it happen to myself and it hurts like hell for starters. At the speed these guys play at it's a wonder no one has been impaled
What a beast skating through that. Insane level of toughness/survivor instinct there. Looked like some severe internal damage related to his own stick jabbing up into the boards.
@@Leafsdude_ I'm not sure if it was the puck in the chest, probably was his own stick jabbing him in the gut or where ever it hit him. probably took a few seconds to start feeling the intense pain. either way looks painful as fuck
I had something similar a few years back and ended up rupturing my kidney. Was rushed to the hospital and spent a week there. Very scary I hope he had a speedy recovery.
We used to play floor hockey in the school Gym with wooden sticks cut off and a girls ice skating ringette ring.... I was flying the wing one day and the metal plate in the floor covering the hole where the Volleyball net went popped out and my stick went into it, INSTANT STOPPAGE.... luckily I had my stick down and both hands on it and , I did not let go and held on like hell with both hands , it speared me in the midriff and it flipped me all the way over and I almost landed on my feet, good thing there was a massive well taped knob on that stick or I could have been impaled.I think his hands came off his stick which sucks.
Just had some guy come in so quick along the boards while both of us were going for the puck that I didn't have a chance to clear my stick. It ended up getting jammed into my stomach a bit. Not enough to do damage, but it reminded me of that Forsberg accident and how easily a stick can get in a weird position like that.
Hockey players are tough as nails. I remember when Rich Peverley was clinically dead on the bench and when they revived him his next instinct was to ask when his next shift was.
Always like to see the other team demonstrating concern when somebody is injured. The other bench were all looking over instead of just killing time, and a few watched from the ice. The officials also reacted, the lead ref following to ensure the game flow stayed clear while the other helped Kuraly clear the ice, and they didn't debate stopping play when called on. Glad for the reports all tests came back negative at the hospital and they just did a catch and release.
about 20yrs ago, similar thing happened in a beer league game i was playing in. same reaction, same kind of play. turned out a cracked rib nicked the guy's liver & caused some minor internal bleeding. best wishes...
I was at this game bro. It was scary cause I pointed him skating off to my family and almost 10 seconds later, They started calling for medical attention. It was quite scary not knowing what happened to him.
Hope he’s ok.. I’m just confused as to how it works at the rink I suppose. I always thought if you continue past the bench into the locker room the top notch docs will find you there no?
Kuraly (abdomen) was discharged from the hospital Saturday after initial testing came back clear, Jeff Svoboda of the Blue Jackets' official site reports.
Looks like a ruptured spleen Almost lost my brother to that in a Lax game, he'd made his peace with god before the medics saved him. I wish the best for Kuraly thank god for modern medicine
It looked to me that he got the butt end of his stick up underneath his rib cage when he went into the wall directly behind the net. That's a scary situation, and I don't blame the Blue Jackets' bench for reacting as they did. Hopefully he recovers well and quickly.
@@MachoManAndySavage125 He looked hurt, but he didn't double over until the puck hit him. I'd bet rib injury or commotio cordis. Those pucks pack a punch, and that's a very tender region.
The response was way too slow and should be investigated. Having a guy run across the ice to get to the player's bench. Seemed like it took minutes for him to get there. If this was a different situation, this hockey player could be dead.
I'm a Marine combat veteran, and I have so much respect for what hockey players go through. It's such an intense and dangerous sport. These guys get on the ice, knowing they could sustain a life altering injury. All for their love of the sport, fans, and their teammates.
Could be spleen happened to me when I was 10. Went to shoot the puck around the boards and my stick got stuck in the seam in the boards. I skated right into it and it speared me I got rushed to the ER and it had missed my Spleen by millimeters. The ER Dr said I was lucky!
This happened to me. Didn't take much. Instantly knew something was wrong and started cold sweating. Went to the ER with low blood pressure, was misdiagnosed, and went home. Couldn't stand the next day without falling over. Got x-rays and was told I lacerated my spleen. Sent me to a major hospital for a few nights and thankfully I recovered. I got very lucky.
Played 20 years of hockey, never at the pro level, but I came to the conclusion, hay my position as a goaltender, was, ans is the safest of the 6 positions on the ice!Me opinion,so do not get insane!75 year old hockey crazed person!
Bonkers that the NHL and teams haven’t changed protocols on this, would be easy to implement EMTs/doctors in the tunnel behind the benches (instead of crossing the ice) and a panic button located at the bench to speed these situations up. Could even link the button to the horn and game clock as a pause in game for player safety. I mean, I’m not an expert but these seem easy implementations 🤷♂️
The medical guys really need to be closer to the benches. Like, what the heck was that, someone is possibly severely injured and it took the guy 20 minutes to waddle across the ice.
They are there because of that is where the ambulance is. So they can load and go. There is no perfect spot but they can stabilize and get out quickly. Most critical situations for " players" they usually do not leave the ice on their own Reply
Typically those guys are there if some is hurt on the ice that needs to be stretchered off. Much faster access to an ambulance through those Zamboni doors. Each team does have their own doctor behind the bench.
Hope he’s okay. I know they transported him to a local hospital. Hopefully it was just the wind getting knocked out of him and the medical staff is just being precautious
Related to the comment about the tunnels and why the need to walk across the ice, I've been to an ice rink/hockey stadium for a convention, and if this building is designed similarly, you can't go straight from the Zamboni area to the team room areas directly. The fastest way to get there would be the way the paramedic went.
yeah I used to be a CIT and not only that but tons of shit in the way too. A lot of places store the basketball tile back there and the hallway can be small. Also end of period so zams and shit can be in the way thru the to the hallway/tunnel
The toughness level of hockey players is another level. Football players sit for "turf toe," and yet we see guys skating on broken legs or internal injuries. Prayers for this guy.
No doubt on hockey player brute toughness. Not sure comparing NFL toughness is fair ; NBA is more appropriate. NFL players take one hell of a beating every week. Haven’t heard a turf toe reference in years but check out video on Deon Sanders turf toe-not an injury to take lightly
@@georgemorris5887 plays 3 to 4 of actual games a week, plays one game a week. Best of 7 playoffs series throughout, plays one and done. Have to play both offense and defense, plays one sided. Continuous playing until play is dead, plays maybe 5-12 seconds then gets a small timeout every play. The list goes on and on. Even the MLB has is tougher than the NFL. Hell even soccer players are tougher cause if they get injured and have no subs that player will try to stay on the field in any capacity possible. Football players get cramps and call it a day.
@@OneFoxTwoFox I never did nor would question hockey player toughness. Just take a look at NFL vets with CTE and average playing career years wise. Saying baseball has it tougher ! ? What a joke.
Dude that was my thought exactly! Football is an extremely physical game! I would never ever call football players, in general, out for lack of toughness. And then to have nobody mention the glaringly obvious wimpiest major sport (MLB) which has players literally sit out for "fatigue" and "sprained finger"!?! Some people are just wild. @@georgemorris5887
I was there, the bench reaction was intense. They were throwing shit on the ice and doing whatever they could to stop play and get that slow af paramedic there. It didn't look bad but when he dropped his stick you could see he was hurt pretty bad. Hope he is okay
@@wes6244wtf does being fit have to do with anything ? you realize he doesn’t have f’n skates on correct ? Don’t body shame someone who is only there to help only because he didnt respond in a time that you deem appropriate.
Wait, wtf does being a Wings fan have ANYTHING to do with this video?! Lol I’m still looking for the mofo who even asked who your favorite team was. Lol
@@tanyawieczorek6603 he was hit in the head and face at the same time by two defenders and knocked unconscious. He laid on the ice for quite some time before coming to. Scary situation.
Probably because more often than not players need medicinal attention on the ice. They should definitely have a doc./paramedic in the tunnel as well if they normally don’t already.
1:16-This might be a morbid thought (and we know he's working on coming back so all's well for him thank God), but it's a weird feeling seeing that pose and going "That reminds me of getting spiked in the original Prince of Persia."
It was his stick. The puck was barely going 10mph when it hit him. Anyone who’s ever played hockey will know it was his stick that got caught in between him and the boards that did it and not the puck like this one guy keeps saying lmao
@@Leafsdude no, he was, at least to my eye, already in pain before the puck hit him. The way he was grabbing for his stick read to me as someone who is in considerable pain
@@cambrowndrums I mean, I never got myself that squarely with my stick, but yea, the puck wasn't at a speed where it would draw much more than a flinch, unless youre injured. Then even a minor tap can lead to nasty pain.
Could possibly be a torn Abductor Muscle, IDK ! Is there some kind of Panic button on the bench, saw a trainer snack something up high behind the bench on the wall going back towards the dressing room. Whatever it is hope he's doing fine .
The ref didn’t blow bec he made the effort to the bench stfu and don’t knock the guy running out to help. Hopefully he’s ok. He’s hardcore that’s why he went back to the bench.
I was at this game and the situation sucked but there was something funny about the players throwing their towels up in the air to try to get the refs attention
Happened to be in a Pro In-line game. Had my stomach rip and herniated my belly button. Tore open 3” after I hit a guy on very stiff boards. No give, I split my abdominal connective tissue and he broke his collarbone… late 1990s. It burned so bad.
The doctor is only one person. If this is a serious medical problem, which it appears to be, there has to be medically trained personnel to help the doctor out. It would be nice for the people calling the game to not publicly criticize the man appearing to be walking across the ice slowly-he wasnt wearing skates. Also, its not his fault he wasnt on the other side of the ice when he was needed. Where are all the medical staff to begin with? Sounds like it was a case of bad circumstance and/or poor planning. I hope Kuraly is ok.
@@Calers-gu1ib , true but the shoulder then hits the head which snaps back. You can see it quite clearly, even in full speed. The head must be protected or players start to tackle beyond what's deemed ”safe”, so to say. Larkin got a shove on his neck/back of the head. These things might be ok in 100 cases but that 101 time is too much.
@@GuitarNewz naw, the head kinda whiplashed from the bumping shoulders. They announced his own stick hit the boards and the butt end struck him in the rib area which easily can stop the heart for a brief second.
