Any RU-vid links to Cav's story? I've only really learned about him in the last year as I've got into the sport and feel like I don't properly appreciate the sentiment going around today.
@finlaycampbell3234
@finlaycampbell3234 3 года назад
@@knutbk Not sure about RU-vid videos but he completely dominated sprinting a few years back. He won 30 stages of the TDF between 2008-2016 as well as the points jersey in all 3 grand tours. He also won the rainbow world champions jersey in 2011 and was widely considered to be the greatest sprinter of all time. After suffering a series of injuries and illnesses, his career was thought to be over by 2018/19 and he wasn't selected for the TDF in 2019 or 2020. He had a series of good races in 2021 and was selected this year over sam bennett who wasnt fit for the tour. Not many people would have thought he could ever win another TDF stage a few years ago, but he has suprised everyone with his recent form and has now won again.

Disagree. Mørkov did a perfect drop off. He had to pull Cav back after he lost his wheel, and gave it all from 3 to 1.5-1.2 and placed him on the right wheel and then dropped back totally wasted. Even though he didnt run leadout. it was a absolute masterclass from the 2 best how to win a sprint with out a train, and bad possition 3k out.

I agree completely!! Also in the interview you could see the size of Cavendishs' pec muscles lol people forget how much of your chest muscles and shoulders you use in a heavy heavy sprint like that, his position during the sprint was a tiny bit lower/closer to the bars than most of the others from him pulling using his upper body chest and back. It was an absolute masterclass as you pointed out!!

Been wondering where this win puts Cav on the all-time list for stage winners in terms of longevity. Alejandro Valverde has won grand tour stages 16 years apart, Mario Cipollini 14 years and Francesco Moser, like Cavendish now, 13 years. But if we just focus on the Tour de France his 13 year gap is the same as Gino Bartali and one less that Jean Alavoine (1909 and 1923). Not sure if this is all - can any others rival them? Seems like a pretty select group anyhow.
