@@johngaynor7819 Mark Hamill will forever be best Joker to me, but you can't just abuse Troy like that either. He was playing The Joker in the Arkham franchise, sort of had to do his best to imitate Hamill. All in all, he did pretty good. And let's be honest, if it was Baker who came first, we'd be calling Hamill the cheap imitation
@@Nice_Guy3012 yeah but he never would of came up with that voice on his own. He copied hamill plain and simple the mannerisms the tone it’s all too similar and idk what it is about hamills joker but I feel his joker more authentic hamills voice sounds much like troys joker but there a subtle but undeniable difference that sets them apart
Mark's Joker sounds more raspier over the years when compared to when he first started in the Animated Series which was a little more higher pitched and wimsical when he laughed, which is understandable since Mark got older. Troy's version is like how Mark sounded in the Animated Series but more serious and brutal.
Anyone else notice how Troy's not only sounds younger, the his mannerisms and voice make it sound like he has more of a level head, and knows what his goal is. It kinda gives the impression that the joker became way more insane by Arkham Asylum, and I kinda love that.
Troy Baker's Joker voice is young, dark, and impulsive, while Mark Hamill's Joker is old, patient, and calculating. Basically, young joker is arrogant, and old joker is just more relaxed. In conclusion, they're both awesome. By the way, I haven't played the game... yet. =)
Mark Hamills batman's voice comes more from the throat, you can get hear the sound of him kinda grunting to make the voice, Troy's is smoother and deeper. They are still amazing
Troy sounds like a younger Joker. Since it's a prequel 5 years before Arkham Asylum + Troy copied Hamils personality which he had to do in order to the story and he's done this great
@Tanikaze Origins is a great game and my personal favorite. It's bad reputation is purely the work of Rocksteady making a concerted effort to disown it* and encourage fans to do the same. It's a dick measuring contest between Rocksteady and WB Montreal, really. *These are obvious examples, but the marketing hammered home that Arkham Knight was the final chapter of a "trilogy," despite being the fourth game. And they made sure that Origins was pointedly left off the Return to Arkham collection, which sucks because there's not a good way to play it on current gen systems. At this point, I'd accept a straight port to the Switch rather than it not being easily available.
Dang. I didn't expect to hear another VA for the Joker that could measure up to Mark. But, especially as he continues to gain experience, I think we have a good man to carry the torch.
Taking a joker role in movies would be scary for any actor, afraid to flop, since the performances of the joker by Heath Ledger but i too think Troy could maybe make a good joker too
Also, to those who say that he is just a voice actor - some of Troy's roles were full performance capture, and you can see how great he is in behind the scenes footages. The fact that he can emote so well even with a goofy motion capture suit strapped on him is a huge testament to his talent..
It’s clear that Troy was told to just “sound like Mark.” But, joker is clearly younger and more brutal with how he talks. He’s less refined. He sounds like he’s just coming up with his maniacal shit as he goes. Mark’s joker sounds like a more rehearsed performance. The younger joker had less satire and pizazz, which I think fits
Yes it does, at the begging of Arkham Origins it’s abundantly clear that joker wants Batman dead and if he has the chance to kill him he doesn’t do it himself, he sends goons like bane because it’s like it’s beneath him. It’s until he’s saved by Batman when the Gotham royale explodes that he is intrigued by him and starts to make all the theatrics he usually does in the future games (his plan with the heart monitor)
Even though Troy is mimicking Hamil for the most part, I prefer his laugh I think. It's more dynamic. Overall, Mark's Joker has more emotional range, but if I were picking a favorite on laugh alone I'd pick Troy.
I personally like Mark Hamill’s Joker a little more since he has been playing the character for so long. However, Troy does amazingly well, especially since he has to follow in Hamill’s footsteps. They are both talented, but Hamill’s will always have a special place in my heart since I grew up with him.
Both of them are great! I grew up watching Batman the animated series and Mark Hamill is the one I listen growing up. Troy Baker copied Mark Hamill’s Joker and that’s a good thing. He captures Joker very well
Troy Baker is soo talented...He plays younger joker soo well. Then the next game he becomes both two face and Arkham Knight.Seems like developers can't seem to get enough of him...
We all know marks time is coming. I’m glad Troy baker is someone capable of respecting his legacy and doing just as good of a job as mark does. They are both brilliant.
Both their performances are great. What really breaks it for Mark, though, is the laugh. The Joker is nothing without his laugh, and Mark's performance portrays such an insane glee that Troy, despite his skills, really just can't match.
origins had a phenomenal cast that really depicts the youth in the characters. Roger Craig Smith plays batman so well, and the for Troy Baker's joker. When it comes to playing these characters years into their career, Conroy and Hamil are the best.
I would say it’s more like Mark is Alec Guinness, and Troy is Ewan McGregor, since both the latters do a perfect job at playing the younger version of the formers character.
All people say is he’s a younger joker And things like that when they sound nothing alike lol All I’m saying is they make it seem like joker and Batman were little kids in origins and hit Puberty in the rest Your voice doesn’t change that drastically when you’re already a grownup
Mark said his final Joker role was Arkham Knight. So, if they make another Arkham game or whatever, and they want The Joker in it, then they’ll have to call in Troy.
I hate comparisons. Because they're all so good, I'd love to say Mark's is the best, but Troy's is really good too. I can't compare them, so they're both the best.
It's amazing how the original voice actor does a voice talent, and then another voice actor has the same ability. Like, the comparison is so close, you can barely tell the difference between them. They LITERALLY sound exactly the same and on point all the way. WMGA (World's Most Gifted Actors) 👏👏👏👏
Troy Baker is a insane voice actor, plays a really good joker next to Mark Hamill, plays Booker Dewitt in Bioshock Infinite, Joel from The Last of Us and The main Villain from Far Cry 4
Mark is just old now. If you watch early BTAS, Troy sounds a lot like Mark back then. That of course would be the point for Origins. When it comes time for us to say farewell for Mark, Troy will be a welcomed replacement. However, Troy doesn’t have that gutteral chuckle (hue-hue, in deep chest back of throat) down, the wind up to the cackle (HAAAAAAHAHAa) Mark does so well. There is a BTAS Mark interview where he talks about the wind up and practicing in LA traffic, people looking at him like he is deranged. That will make Troy well-rounded. But I don’t want to think of saying good bye to Mark just yet. 😢
@@joshuawillis602 that wasn’t inherently true given he said the same thing for Arkham City. However, what is different now, is two months ago he said he couldn’t possibly do the Joker again now that Kevin Conroy has passed, and without him there is not Batman for his Joker. I think that’s fairly solid, but no one can know for sure.
@@crowevil4658 if he means completely what he said though then Troy Baker might become the new mainstream joker. If that happens then Roger Craig Smith can become the new mainstream Batman. Both voice actors are talented and did great for their characters
I think more extreme emotions like straight anger and striaght Joy(his main laughing), Troy is better. He is after an overall insane voice actor. However, more subtle things like regular talking are much more unsettling when Hamill talks. He understands the character much more than Troy obv. And his laugh, while not being technically more realistic than Troy’s, I think is still better. He’s able to do different laughs for different scenes. So overall, ofc Hamill is better but goddamn I think Troy could fill in for him now that Hamill’s stepped down.
@@grumpy8133 Dawg what are you on about.... they both sound identical with slight differences because the age of the characters were different. How does Troy Bakers performance pale in comparison to Mark Hamil when they're almost identical? You wouldn't even know they were voiced by different people unless you were told which means Troy Baker did an excellent job. Read the comments for yourself, people are saying Troy Baker is like a younger Mark Hamil voicing joker.
Mark Hamill is the original and Genius. Couldnt help thinking Troy tried to follow Hamill's style but still he did exceptionally well too. And there is John Dimaggio (BM:Under the Redhood) who also brought something new and refreshing. If I have to rank, Hamill will be the first, Dimaggio second and Troy third, very close to each other. All their 3 jokers are a delight to hear.
Thing is, Mark literally transforms himself into the Joker. When Troy does it, I can hear the cadences of his voice, whereas Mark is completely unrecognizable.
Mark's Joker voice has a good ragged raspiness sound thanks to his age which makes him sound more "damaged". (sorry for any suicide squad ptsd that i might have just caused!) Troy sounds like someone younger trying to do an impression of Mark but its missing the rasp. :P
I think Troy knew he couldn’t do better than Mark Hamil, so he wanted to do his best to replicate him without being an exact copy. Both do a fantastic joker.
