When a friend of mine went to see Anchorman, the people sat behind him tapped him on the shoulder and asked him to stop constantly laughing. It's like, what do you want me to do? They made a laugh-a-minute movie, should I not laugh at the jokes that are making me laugh? So that you can consider the film in silence?
Kermode liking Minions so much humanises him a lot for me! It’s really terrible that some people can be angry about it, instead of appreciating the novelty of one of the best film critics in the UK liking something that’s so widely criticised as cheap humour.
I sincerely don't understand why some people can't allow others to simply enjoy things? Sounds like people need to unironically "grow up" and get over themselves!
I'm looking forward to taking the girls to this one. It might manage to be the first movie child two has sat through in the cinema, though we'll have to wait and see on that one. regardless, I'm sure we'll all enjoy it.
Mark said he'd watch Minions if he's feeling low. I think the rest of us could watch his reaction here if we are feeling low. There's nothing better than seeing a genuine love or delight for something.
I'm with Mark on this... 56 years old; can't get enough of the Minions! KING BOB!!! And yeah, those knitted dolls are definitely based on characters from the film "9".
I’m with you Mark I love those minions and wish the studio would just make minion movies. I want to see their side jobs and how they get the cash for their costumes and props.
I’m right there with you on the minions. I’m also the one laughing loudest in the theater, to the point where my kids make fun of me (in a cheerful way). My all-time favorite scene in the franchise is the airplane scene from the last minions movie. I lost complete control, and the kids were looking around self-consciously and laughing at the same time. 😂 I don’t worry too much about the story, as long as they can keep me laughing. I guess it’s kind of like watching Three Stooges or Bugs Bunny for me. 🤷♂️
The true sign of a problem is if Mark becomes one of those people who repost Minions quotes on FB (even if they have nothing to do with Minions and are about how the poster doesn’t care what people think)…if that day comes then we can get a butterfly net and drop Mark off in the woods.
I’m in the same boat as Mark. I don’t find the Despicable Me movies very good or funny but I found the Minions stand alone movie to be absolutely hysterical all the way through. The voice work is just too good. Also, shame on those critics judging you in the screening. What a bunch of dicks.
Just seen it and had a blast (well apart from the kids in front who seemed to be attempting to break every single rule in the Code Of Conduct). It’s probably my most Boomer opinion that the Minions are funny.
After enjoying the minions films and finding the previous DM films generally fine, I was feeling hopeful for this. A real let down though. Plot was all over the place, didn't laugh once, it felt like such an cash grab film without an ounce of love put into it
I accidentally saw this because the theater I wanted to watch was just barely above freezing. So I saw this and like Mark laughed every time the minions were on screen. There was very little else entertaining or funny in this film.
Despicable ME4? More like Despicable MEH… the baby was just a pale imitation of a pre-power Jack-Jack from the Incredibles. The dialogue was baaad. The comedy was often poorly timed - which, for an animated movie, is a pretty awful thing. The movie nods went nowhere (the terminator one was lazy). And all the best minions set-pieces were spoiled in the trailers.
I am EXACTLY the same way about the Minions❤❤❤ .. I dont like Gru, he's boring🥱 but i could seriously watch minions read the phone book and do their schtick for hours. They make me so happy! I've seen DM4 three times in theatre now; the "story" is totally forgettable but i dont care. It actually makes it easier to go back and see Bob and the boys again. Hey, it's cheaper than therapy 😂❤ and way better for my soul.
I must admit that I have felt a tiny bit embarrassed by my own enjoyment of and enthusiasm for the minions. They do make me laugh hysterically. Love their voice, their antics, their puerile silliness... There isn't a single thing that I don't like about them. I find it a riot that Mark finds them as hilarious as I do.
