The most underrated film in recent years imo

I really really enjoyed the film. Less a study of Steve Jobs life but more a study of his character.

Saw it today and loved it. It's a film that doesn't leave your conscious, so the more you think about it, the more your affection slowly grows. Wonderful moments throughout. The humour was surprisingly unobtrusive, and the cast was outstanding - especially Michael Fastbender.

Agree with Mark 100%, i was surprised by how much i liked this film. The father-daughter story overall had a lot of heart.

Love how he referenced Shallow Grave, that is an amazing film which I wish got more praise.

Setting the drama in the run-up to each product launch adds authenticity. Everyone knows how dysfunctional families and relationships become even more dramatic and pronounced in pressure situations.

Saw it today, great film, Fassbender was excellent and is clearly on top form, and Seth Rogen was surprisingly good as Wozniac (I think that's how you spell it). It also made me laugh surprisingly at certain points which I wont spoil. I like how it doesn't dumb anything down, Aaron Sorkins writing was fantastic as expected, and Danny Boyle made a very smart decision to let the writing and acting be the main focus.

Agreed. A brilliant dialogue-heavy drama about one fascinating man and the human relationships that seeped their ways into his life, regardless of how much he valued them over the products of his innovations. Sorkin's screenplay is nuanced and involving, Boyle's direction is on-point, and the film's structure feels perhaps ironically (and appropriately) theatrical and cinematic for a film fundamentally focused on behind-the-scenes developments, specifically for the announcements of the Macintosh, the Black Box and the iMac. Fassbender is tremendous in the lead and this is definitely one for the ages. Great review as always Mark!

the first hour of this movie was riveting, felt it sort of lost a step after that. Fassbender was fantastic and Winslet was as phenomenal as always

Although Fassbender is fantastic, once again proving he doesn't just act but inhabits a character, it felt like half a movie to me. I was truly taken aback when it finished, when is part 2 ?

I really liked this..... It's not The Social Network [which is perfect in my opinion] but it's got some great stuff in it, the performances are fantastic. The best thing about it is that it actually feels much harsher in terms of the unlike-ability of the main character & the direction is very much in Danny Boyle's wheelhouse of whom I'm a big fan. For me, the problem with the film is that whereas in The Social Network you actually got the impact of the betrayal and see it play out, in Steve Jobs you only get news reporting of how Wozniak was treated. I understand that it's much more centered around Steve Jobs [clue's in the title ha] than The Social Network was around Zuckerburg [and I really liked the fact that it's not simply a retread of the structure of The Social Network] but I would've liked more of Wozniak. Overall I thought it was a great film....I guess I just liked the supporting performances so much that I wanted more of them. :)

Really thrown off by Fassbenders performance and i love the guy, decent movie overall.

Great Movie, Great Review.

It's a brilliant film and that was a surprise for me. Jobs comes across as ultimately tragic and but gifted, which was fascinating.

The structure sounds kinda like West Wing, focusing on the behind the scenes.

There's a certain wondering in my mind when I find a great movie, that you can say that you didn't get it or something like that, but you can't deny what was doing Fassbender on the screen you can't deny captivating dialogs. And keep wondering where does these human beings keep coming out from saying it was a boring movie? Is it a way of having a strong opinion when you feel uncomfortable stating that you couldn't understand it?

It probably stalled in the U.S. as the 'powers that be' are tired of having meetings with Mr Boyles' over enthusiasm and 'great' ideas - see ineptitude of Bowie ' idea ' ( Bowie's way too judicious for that). When I watch a Danny Boyle film I always think of Francois Truffaut's comment about British cinema.

I will definitely see this one.

Another film about jobs!! when will people get over him?

Michael Fassbender is simply the best actor working today. The only people who can even come close to him are Tom Hardy and Leonardo DiCaprio.

I'd be surprised if the Kutcher film didn't put people off seeing another Apple-story film.

If you look at the world wide gross for this film and the other Steve Jobs movie that came out a while back (simply titled "Jobs") then you'll see they made about the same amount of money. This one just had a higher production budget. I think from this we can conclude that no matter the quality of the film, people just aren't that interested in going to the cinema to see a movie about Steve Jobs.

TV movie... anti-cinematic... nice in that verbose sorkin west-wing way, but still very TV. Social network is much more cinematic even though it is verbose and written by sorkin. Fincher was better at translating Sorkin to the large screen.

Did it not do well because it made us feel guilty about buying apple products?

I came to this with an open mind and found that the film sounds boring. I have add (troll) that Apple make awful phones and computers with one really big stupid button on the mouse - discuss.

I'd rather have an unlubricated prostate examination than sit through a film about Steve Jobs. Especially one with Aaron Sorkin dialogue.

If Jobs was anything like the character, he was an egocentric inconsiderate man who had a few ideas in a Northern California garage.

I liked it enough, but The Social Network this is NOT.

The 3 act structure is a gimmick, the movie is about moments of his life. There is way too much exposition. The best part of the movie is when Fassbender and Jeff Daniels are having a discussion, they go back and forth from present to past. The performances, the directing, the music are all great, but how the story is told is not that appealing for non-cinephile audiences.

If ever humanity achieves the Singularity (an event foreseen by Ray Kurzweil among others), rue the day that an AI decides to create an android avatar for itself with the face and mannerisms of the late Steve Jobs, based not only on his peculiar real life but on Fassbender's performance. That would seem a fitting face for humanity to see as it ends and and artificial intelligence begins.

Cant wait for the next Steve Jobs movie..sorry dont care about steve jobs theres already been a movie or TV...i dont care.
