Yeah when I’m at my lowest - hopeless and not sure things will change - I turn to this movie. It’s powerful in many ways

... finally saw it a month or 2 ago- what a bizarre, though oddly gentle, little gem! such a great cast, wonderfully subtle performances, with such compellingly mesmeric tone & pace! recommended indeed; all the very best to you & yours, j...

Found this gem while browsing in a video store, and , having never heard of the film ( which in itself was criminal) , l read its description and curious, rented it. What I viewed quickly became one of my most favorite films. This film contains some of the best lines in cinema, and the cast was wonderful, with William Blatty turning in a wonderful perormance. It's hilarious, thought provoking, and at its core...simply human.

One of my favorite films of all time! One of my best friends turned me onto it and I never look back. It should have got Oscar after Oscar when it came out!?

Just watched the film, it's smart, thought provoking and unhinged all at the same time. A film where one flew over the cuckoo's nest meets marx brothers meets apocalypse now.

It's up there with The Seventh Seal and Nazarin. And people ask me what do I have against Harry Potter. Well, it's easy to like what was well advertised to you and was aimed at your comfort zone. The Ninth Configuration does no such thing, it derails and transforms your passive wiring in ways that are subtle and creeping, it makes you laugh, then think, then doubt, then you reach out your hand but get a slap. The ageless space is not for just anyone.

One of my very favorite films. Just about every notable character actor in Hollywood is in this picture: Ed Flanders, Jason Miller, Stacy Keach, Richard Lynch, Neville Brand, George DiCenzo, Scott Wilson, Robert Loggia, Tom Atkins, and many others. Thank you for noticing William Peter Blatty's performance. I went to a signing and had him sign my book. I was halfway out the door before I realized that he had portrayed Lt. Fromme. Blatty was a fine actor.

I’ve been a fan of this film since my first viewing 20 years ago. While I continue to have a great deal of affection for it, I do feel it’s beginning to suffer from its naive attitudes about mental illness. None of the inmates in the asylum depicted in the film suffer from mental illness in ways that aren’t entertaining. I can’t imagine what a modern veteran suffering from profound PTSD would make of this bunch. The film is very much a house of cards in this way, with the foundations of the plot resting on the backs of these mentally ill inmates, which opens the door for serious soul searching regarding the existence of god. It all falls apart in the modern context because the inmates are pretty much all harmless people who’ve seen too many movies. They’re “Hollywood Crazy”. Having said that, I do still find it entertaining and I hope the day comes when it will be more appreciated.

It's an incredibly plodding, repetitive movie that is like a dull One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. So completely overrated by sniffy film critics like Mark Kermode that it has allowed a mostly average psychodrama to endure long past the point that it should have been forgotten.
