I'd be honored if some fans of these 4 legends would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal YT performances of their respective songs TEARS IN HEAVEN, AGAINST ALL ODDS, ENGLISHMAN IN NEW YORK, and ON EVERY STREET in tribute to the masters. Live with no autotune or digital editing. Peace & stay safe.
I'm a 69 year old, grown assed man, but I can't help watching this with a smile on my face and a few tears in my eyes. Does anybody else have that problem?
me 69 also. share the same birthday as director Robert Zemeckis. he born Chicago , me in Netherlands. he much richer than me, but methinks I am richer for knowing good guitar picking. but i must warn you... grown men should not cry. enjoy, savor and smile
@@darwill7834”Not good at much else.” Just look up ‘British inventions’ on Wikipedia. We invented the civilised world, with the odd contribution from the French, Germans and a few Septics. We even invented the medium upon which you are watching this music. Other than that, I completely agree with your sentiment.
Knopfler and Clapton collaborating on guitars will never be equaled. It is such a good combination they have made it happen numerous times with each backing up the other. Genuine mutual respect.
I'm not quite 50, and I was JUST sitting here lamenting that I'll never get to see something like this live. And I've SEEN all THREE of them live (individually/in their respective bands). But this... oh, man... it'd be worth selling ones soul to attend this. You've got THREE gods RIGHT THERE to bail you back out.
What the hell!! Mark Knopfler as lead singer Sting as backup vocals Eric Clapton as rhythm guitar Phil Collins as drummer That's what I call an all-star rock band.
It is nice to hear and see this. But you certanly know/knew, that STING performed at LIVE AID in 1985 on the stage, too AND he was on the original-studio session as a (THE) background singer, even if he didn't give the song a chance these days - he was wrong, as we all know...
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6iJ-4WolLD0.htmlsi=sgFTQfeRmLaXgjFK This version trumps it for me... both fantastic but the Wembley Live version has a ton of heart, and that drum intro 😮
This just makes me happy - the whole orchestra and groups of singers clapping and grooving, the entire audience too. What live entertainment is all about
Man I missed these great British artist. This is an all star cast performance. Sting, Mark Knopfler, Eric Clapton, & Phil Collins on the drums 🥁. Awesome 👌 and my favorite hit song 🎵 MTV
Winwood: Keys Collins: Drums Sting: Backing Vocals Clapton: Rhythm Lead and Main Vocals: Knopfler The amount of talent on that stage should have caused a rift in space-time
And the percussionist (the guy in the shades) ... I can never remember his name, but he's supported pretty much every major band over the years. He's a complete beast behind a drum kit - goes REALLY hard!
Господи, эпичность и легендарность этого выступления просто на каком-то запредельном уровне. Дурацкая улыбка не сходила с моего лица с первой и до последней секунды этого видео. Великолепно!
This is the way it should be, serious musicians not being too serious, this music is fun and it's hard not to move your feet and have a smile on your face.
Stumbled upon this video by accident and I think I just got hypnotized. God almighty, just look at Clapton and Knopfler throwing leads around like candy. They´re not even shredding, they´re sending notes into space!
Mark Knopfler, Sting, Phil Collins, Eric Clapton, a full gospel range, an orchestra, just that? Damn this is such a massive bloody team for a song, how amazing to see the best 80s singers united
I know this is a couple years late, but see if you can find 'Music for Montserrat', which this is from. It was a concert hosted by George Martin featuring all the people who recorded at his studio on Montserrat, to raise money for the island after the volcano erupted.
Les 2 meilleurs guitaristes de la planète, le meilleur batteur, et un grand chanteur, associés a un gospel en folie... je me le passe tous les matins pourme donner le rythme de la journée !!!!!!!
I believe this is a performance from "Music for Montserrat" at the Royal Albert Hall, a concert a couple of decades ago following an eruption of the island volcano of Montserrat. The concert was a fundraiser for the inhabitants of the island, and featured a wide swath of world-class musicians with connections to Montserrat ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_for_Montserrat )
Nunca vou me cansar de assistir esse show. Favoritíssimo. Esperando ansiosamente inventarem uma máquina do tempo pra eu ir lá ver pessoalmente, estilo Mc Fly
WOW! when was this? They all look so young. So much awesomeness in one arena. Thumbs up if you are listening to this in 2020 and Corona virus is making you stay home.....
There's a good story Knopfler tells about how he got the lyrics for this song: listening to a delivery man complaining about his lot, while in a store full of TVs all playing MTV. Knopfler says he didn't have to change much, from what he heard - he was crouching down with a pencil and paper just trying to get it all down. Shame the delivery guy wasn't credited...
This was in 1997, it was a charity concert for Montserrat (a small island that suffered a volcanic explosion which drove over 2/3 of the population off the island). A lot of great artists played to raise money.
Holy shit! When it kicks off and the crowd and band sync rhythms and then Phil drops those fill bombs to lead into the blazing classic riff of Knopflers riff for Money For Nothing, and surprisingly subtle yet solid and anchor rhythm lead double helixing between Mark and Eric, Sting wailing along on backup vocals. And a choir and orchestra to boot, what a band. Can’t imagine what it was like to hear and see this live.
That is one big band, definitely, with a few pretty damn good musicians playing this ditty. I never would have expected such a huge outfit, including dozens of backup singers and an orchestra in there, to deliver such a punch without overloading. Tons of fun.
Yep Susan. I've always thought that listening at Collins on drums you can get an idea about the difference from having a drummer and having a GREAT drummer.
2023.. so amazing tune ! just miss Mike LINDUP keyboard and Bass Line braught to us from Mark KING in the band ;) So electic ! Thank you Mark.. and all the fans for making this moment still alive :)
Oh thank you Jesus that these guys performed a Mark Knopfler AKA Dire Straits song such an underrated guitarist and such an underrated as far as I'm concerned man that hasn't come to the four light for generations of all of us to listen to Mark Knopfler is one of the best Geniuses that ever came across some of the Bands we listen to today I wish I had seen him in concert and I love that voice
Let's put it this way, if people studied Mark Knopfler there would be way better guitar players in music today. Don't get me wrong there are some great players these days but they lack that something special.
Money For Nothing hit the airwaves on June 28, 1985 and Live Aid was a couple of weeks later on July 13th. A few of my college friends and I roadtripped it from south Georgia to Hollywood, Florida for that weekend. It was the peak of MTV and the 80s. Just a special time. To quote Hunter S. Thompson: It seems like a lifetime, or at least a Main Era-the kind of peak that never comes again. No explanation, no mix of words or music or memories can touch that sense of knowing that you were there and alive in that corner of time and the world.
WHAT AN INCREDIBLE SHOW!!! ALL THAT GREAT TALENT UNDER ONE ROOF PERFORMING TOGETHER LIVE!!! I PRAY HEAVEN WILL BE THIS INCREDIBLE!!!! TRUST CHRIST NOW PLEASE!!! WOW!!! WHAT A MIND-BLOWING-PERFORMANCE!!!
Sting is actually an amazing back-up singer :) PHIL COLLINS - ”Long, Long Way to Go” / ”Take Me Home” (1985) ... ARCADIA - ”The Promise” (1985) ... DIRE STRAITS - ”Money for Nothing” (1986) ... ZIGGY MARLEY - ”One World (Not Three)” (recorded 1988, released 1995) ... SHERYL CROW - ”Always on Your Side” (2007)
If you stand ahead of Eric Clapton on stage playing lead guitar you’ve got to be good. Mark is up to that task. And if you have Sting as a backing singer you’ve got to be good. Mark probably the only guy on the planet who could pull that double off.
This is my favorite version of this song. Seeing these four superstars together is incredible. Seeing Phil on the drums warms my heart. Mark's unique guitar playing style along side Eric Clapton, the best guitar player of all time and then Sting filling in vocal. In my opinion this is the best of the best. Love listening to these guys.
I think no one is talking enough how Mark playes guitar WITHOUT the pick! That ain't easy. He and Lindsey Buckingham was the main influence on my guitar playing. Both playing without a pick. Amazing skills!
For what its worth, Mark is already well known for being one of the best fingerstyle guitarists out there. I imagine people aren't talking about it because that's something he's already known for.
Another guitarist the seldom used a pick was the great Toy Caldwell of the Marshall Tucker Band. A total shame that they aren't in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame!
Always amazed me that people just gloss over the guy on the keys....Who? Aw, that's just Steve Winwood. Maybe you've heard of him? Stunning that the stage didn't collapse under the weight of all that talent.
I'd be honored if some Dire Straits & Sting fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of ON EVERY STREET and ENGLISHMAN IN NEW YORK on my YT channel in tribute to 2 great songwriters from the majestic city of Newcastle. Live acoustic with no autotune or digital editing. Thanks and RESPECT to the legends.
