Mark is 71 years old now and still going strong God Bless him he is the best musician ever! May we have many more wonderful year's of his awesome music.Thank you Mark for lighting up our World 🌎
If there is a special spirit in the music world, it's Mark Knopler. Thank you Sir for making the world a more pleasant place to be. God be you always on your journey.
This is so magical live. The studio version did not hint at how great Hill Farmer's Blues is when played line. The instruments all blend, and that sublime guitar solo could go on forever. I've sat within about 10 feet of him doing this and to see his fingers work is amazing.
Damn, I can feel the envy is creeping up on my me. What an absolute magical experience that must've been. Probably life changing. Good on you my friend👍🙂 This song is a masterpiece.
Saw him play this masterpiece in 2008 (standing front row), 2010 (best version, also standing front row), 2013 and 2015 in Amsterdam: it was divine, every single time.
You nailed it ....i am not well , missing my mum and daughter , in lockdown alone in Melbourne and his music is perfect , sentimental like me but with my mums country town feel
Una dinamica impressionante e un suono unico. Quest'uomo accarezza la chitarra come si fa con una amante e le sensazioni sono incredibili. Grande Mark. Io c'ero ad Assago- Milano
How sublime I love bagpipes it’s the Scotia in my blood and add this band!!!!!!!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️👌❤️❤️👌👌👌❤️👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌Simply Beautiful no other words needed,,,,,,
First heard Sultans of Swing as pre-show music at a concert in the Cambridge (UK) Corn Exchange in 1979 (I think!). I was hooked then and have become more and more hooked by every album he's released since. He writes great songs and, as a guitarist, is simply a genius of the highest order - one of those rare people you just know has made your life better by simply doing what he does the way he does it.
This isn't *nearly* long enough! I love the plaintive Irish pipes at the beginning, and the way the melody carries through the rest of the song ... almost as a haunting reminder. So well put together, so beautiful! I keep coming back to this!
@@neilmurray6815 Michael McGoldrick is an Englishman who plays a range of instruments associated with traditional Irish music... Irish flute, tin whistle, low whistle, uilleann pipes, and bodhrán among others instruments. And does it expertly. If Michael calls them Uilleann pipes on his Twitter bio, then I am not going to argue :-)
Celtic music opens up my Slavic (Serb) soul and heart, and makes me cry for some lands I have never seen, but for which I feel nostalgia. Something that can't be explained through words. We are more connected than we are aware of, through history, and in present. I have much respect and love towards the Irish, Scots and other Celtic people. Plus our history has so much parallels. Keep and save your music, songs, language and culture for your future generations.
@@thomasdoherty6726 Glad to hear that the story has a happy end! :D The first thing that comes to my mind when I think of the Irish is the song, the happines, the joy of life. It cheers me up! Hard life (history) and the celebration of life at the same time is the paradox that is present in Serbian culture as well. :) Хвала Томас!
Come to the north of Scotland into the Highlands, play Mark knopfler in the car, you will get everything from that and much more, God bless you and your family 😇
I was fortunate enough to win a prize back in 92 to go and see Dire straits in Sydney. Flown over from the UK in business class , all expenses paid. I was taken back stage about an hour before the show to meet the band which is still a highlight of my life. Mark sat with me and my partner for half an hour and treated us fantastically. I had two pints of beer too while he introduced us to the rest of the band. I just couldn’t believe how much time he had for us and how “ normal “ he was. I won’t forget it for as long as I live. Ps . Cal is a brilliant album. Top, top musician 👍🇬🇧.
@@timoakes450 More gently,i'm French,i'm cool! You don't like this song? I like this song! Just not the same point of view between you and me! This is a live version, not the original,so what! I like Knopfler since i'm 13 years, now i'm 50 !
Yes, there is no one like Mark. No guitar playing like his, no voice like his to sing the songs that only he can write. I have followed him for decades and fall deeper into his spell. His music always will be a part of my life.
This is just brilliant, from the best modern day lyricist, song writer , oh I forgot the best guitairst on this earth, he could play my broom handle and make it sound like a Strat
MK is a master in living performance, he is able to do amazing versions in each performance of its own songs. It's something that has always impressed me.
I can think of another guitar player with the range of MK. Wherever he plays, he IS the Local Hero. He always has an amazing crew with him too. Let's not forget that.
I love when music is more than a medium to amass dollars from a popular culture point of view. This guy hasn't charted in the U.S. for years, yet he writes lyrics and plays guitar that emotes emotions and feelings that no amount of money could buy. God bless you Mark, keep doing what you are doing (with perhaps a little more guitar flair akin to the Dire Straits days - you are too sparing these days!).
MH --marks music is too good for the US -charts and i can assure you he could careless about them. He had one of the greatest bands in the world touring and most certainly is one of the 'THE' most successful musicians in the world still around today. Last year was the farewell tour and will sorely missed
Great Comment! MK has sold a bunch of music in the US but it does not trend like what magazine charts follow. He also has sold and published quite a bit of tunes that have become hits under different artists, especially in Nashville. He recently appeared on the solo record from the Black Keys guy, and of course Tommy Emmanuel's last disc. From what I understand, he is just happy to have made his way in music (much less being platinum over 100 times over) and just wants to do his thing as long as he can.... Very much like John Prine. (Now there would be an interesting collaboration!) -Ltb!
R McGuire 1 second ago Could Not care less, shortened to Couldn't care less....what is wrong with you Americans?.....Otherwise I absolutely agree with you :-)
Incroyable !!!!! Mark chante et joue en même temps des solos de guitare entre les mots avec une facilité déconcertante et une nonchalance habituelle qui ne le quitte jamais...C'est ça le talent à l'état pur !!!!!
Is it just me or does ol MK give himself a big nod to the outro solo of Love Over Gold towards the end of the second tune? He is like a fine drink, more refined and specialized over time and decades! -Ltb!
The bagpipes at the beginning are haunting.......the melody is so nice and soothing and kudos to the gentleman playing it. I also really like hill farmer blues. This whole set is magnificent!!!!
I'm with you there. His guitar work is even more deliberate and melodic than before. It has more emotional depth than speed and flash (which he still can do).
I have one Christian friend who I sent this to, and his song with Emmy Lou, and all I got was, "why do you listen to such secular music" ? Not sure how she ever warmed my heart 💓
