*Rory.* Glad you've now heard this performed with a single guitar. This was the first Lanegan tune in your odyssey and one of the songs I had in mind for you to cover. 🙂 It became one of his signature songs. You'd do well with this one. 😉 Lanegan started out sounding as old as time even in his mid-20s, full of wisdom and sadness. Aging and hard living only intensified that quality. His voice eroding with time only made him *more* Lanegan... more compelling as a performer. 🔥 Same can be said for Johnny Cash, who had a comparable intensity and presence. Lanegan did like and respect Johnny Cash. And also growing up, he had country roots since there wasn't much widely available for him to hear beyond country music... so that left its mark (no pun 😊) But he had eclectic musical tastes and many influences.
Ah this is one of my fave Lanegan songs and prob my fave album by him "Field Songs". Would love to also see you check out my fave Screaming Trees album "Dust" with songs like "Sworn and Broken" and "Dying Days". Also have you checked out some of the stuff he done with Queens of the Stone Age, like the song "Hanging Tree" ?
