This song holds a special place in my heart because I was that kid in school that never got picked, got laughed at and such. This song came out when I was in middle school, and I identified with it in such a way that I actually performed this song in front of the entire school in 9th grade for my drama class.

Mark wills is a great guy.. My son was in grade school when this came out. I met somone who went to school with Mark . I told her I loved this song when she told me that she knew him. I told her that my son loved it too since he was being picked on at school. She wrote to him and he wrote my son and told him he was a special boy, and Mark had his back.. He didnt have to do anything but he did ..

I was bullied so badly in middle school and high school. It got to the point where I couldn't walk outside my house. As I graduated high school I out involved in a very abusive relationship out of desperation for love because my parents were abusive narcs and I was the youngest of 3 kids who's siblings moved out. Home life sucked and my social life sucked. This song spoke volumes to me even to this day because my middle son is going through something similar due to his disabilities. People can be cruel!

I agree people can be. I’m a cancer survivor with a learning disability so I understand just that. All I can say for both you and your son or better yet all of your children is don’t allow others limited perceptions to define of who you are and can be.

This is such an issue in today's world. Bullying IS a real thing. Parents, be aware of your kids; not just in knowing if they are being bullied, but make sure YOUR kids aren't the ones DOING the bullying. Monitor your kid's social media accounts and see what they talk about. Don't let them be off by themselves when they are on their phones or computers. Observe them in face to face interactions with other people. In short, be a parent and don't sugar coat it if you see evidence that your kid is a bully. Biggest thing is to lead by example. Don't be a bully yourself.

I agree with everything you said about minding your business and keeping the drama out of your life. As far as the homeless people go, my grandmother used to say, "You never know when that's an angel you're talking to." I'm not religious, but the sentiment behind the statement stuck with me.

There were times I just wanted to play this song over the school speaker. My little sister has Down Syndrome and went to a program that had stuff to help them feel like regular kids and they played this song in a video they made for each kid of the fun they had. It was amazing seeing all of the kids being themself. They were all so sweet, loving, and kind to each other. We need more kindness and love in this world.

This song hits me hard because I wear glasses and I had braces while in high school. I had a tough time in school. The only reason I made it through was because of my family and the two guys who are still my best friends. All I can say to those going through the bullying is that it gets better. Find those people who except you for who you are and eventually there will be a time when everyone will see you for you.

This song always makes me cry, I was bullied all through school to the point that death would have been welcomed. I never felt like I could do anything right or smart enough. I thought being a Soldier would make people proud of me until I was hurt and had to leave the military. I have done so much in my 54 years and have so many awesome people in my life who except me for who I am. I know the struggles of mental illness all to well as I struggle with PTSD and depression, something I never wanted to let people know about as fear of being laughed at yet again. People don't understand just how deep the scars bullying can make, unless your someone who was bullied.

I was that kid, I was the 16 yr old mother, and I'm still the outcast. This song has been my theme song for a long time. Be careful how you treat people, because you never know what they are going through. Being that outcast has given me a huge heart for other people, but it took a long time to get over the bitterness of being rejected, I'll always have trust issues and depression, but I also have a protective instinct overall to be the voice of the people who have been through hell. Thank you for your reaction to this, it gives people something to think about, especially when it comes to others who are suffering. Never make assumptions about anyone you see, you never know what they have been through. One kind word, one smile, could be the one thing to keep someone from taking their own life. My oldest daughter is my reason for living and loving, her smile has kept me going. Be that reason for someone else! You may save someone's life.

you need to watch the official video for this song. One thing people don't think about is what happens to us as kids does stay with us as adults. Those that are picked on in many,but not all, cases wind up having to deal with low self esteem, depression, anxiety, low confidence as adults. some are able to use the experiences to as lessons & are able to overcome. And those people I applaude because even at 47 I still have issues.

You made a damn good point about giving money to homeless folks. People are all like "They're just gonna spend it on booze" and never stop to think that not EVERYONE is like that, one, and two, THAT'S NOT THE POINT OF GIVING. You give and you give with a thankful heart, that you CAN give, and it's THEIR choice what to do with it. Don't judge them, that's not your fucking place! Give, dammit. If you don't like what they do with it, maybe you should examine what your views are and have a heart-to-heart with your God, because it's up to you to decide if you give with a gainful heart or a thankful heart. Excellent reaction, Billy, and I know how it feels to be bullied and abused because I'm different. Bless you, sir!

Children can be very cruel. They taunt and make fun of children who are the slightest bit different from others. Perhaps the one being laughed at has a physical handicap. I've seen this happen when I was a child -- I've been made fun of because my mother made my clothes, and she did a beautiful job, too. But if it's not what everyone else is wearing, children will laugh at that child. This song really hit home when it first came out.
@hamrad645
@hamrad645 5 лет назад
P.S. Unfortunately, some of those children being cruel learn that behavior from their parents, which really doesn't speak well for the parents. If my parents had ever either caught me or heard about me making fun of anyone, I would have gotten my butt whipped, deservedly so.

The song hits home for our family because we had a special needs son who passed away several years ago people laugh because he was different we embraced him because he was different because he was ours God gave us an angel not many people get that. And I was a teenage mother also I got pregnant at 16 and I lost him to end he was special needs, two months after we lost our littlest one me and my husband been married 15 years now we had a daughter and then our youngest one who turned out to be special needs but we all embraced him because we knew that God gave us him for a reason and even though he was only eight and a half when he left us he left a big impact in our lives. Getting bullied I understand totally I was never the skinny girl in school most popular girl either but I didn't care I learned to block it out and now our daughter is going to the same thing because she is a little bit bigger than most but she has her music she turns to and my husband got picked on in school when he was younger because he was always a smallest in school but not anymore that song hits just about every point for my entire family. I'm glad you did this video I'm glad you reacted to it it's something that people need to learn that just because you're different physically or mentally or whatever it is that you're no better than them you are a person just like they are treat them with respect because in the end you get so much more in return. But then it begins with the parents if their parents don't discipline their kids and tell them that's not right to make fun of someone that's different the cycle keeps going. My daughter wants me to get part of the song Put on me in memory of her younger brother and I am because I want to and because it's a bold statement I want everyone to see that I'm proud of my family no matter whether they're special needs or quote-unquote normal there is no normal to me I guess I was raised different. If anyone agrees with me comment if you disagree comment but if you start putting my family down that's when we have a problem and I'm sure a lot of parents out there feel the same way hopefully you don't mess with their kids at all and I'm a firm believer in that don't mess with my kids don't mess with kids at all don't make fun of them they're not the problem you need to get your priorities straight.

I do the same when I see someone in need. I don't worry about what they do with it. That's between them and the Lord

I always hated when people say they’re just going to spend it on drugs or alcohol. To me they might need that. It’s sad but sometimes life is so bad people need some kind of comfort. So.. so what if they spend it on those kinds of things. A lot of people do drugs and drink to overcome their inner demons, it’s not for me to judge. But I know life sucks and sometimes you need something comforting. Imagine being without a home, having no family, being all alone in the blistering cold or heat. Can you imagine never knowing when you will have a nice meal? Or walking all around trying to find a place to sleep. Or having to get arrested in hopes to eat a warm meal? I’m just saying sometimes they might need it, no matter their circumstances that brought them there.

I was bullied all through school. I had a few close friends who I am still friends with at the age of 45. In fact a set of twins and their mom were with me in 2012 when I went to my son's grave for the first time ever 12 years after I miscarried him. Bullies need called out for their abuse.

I never would have clicked on this reaction if I knew this song beforehand, but just you reacting to it hopefully will open some people's eyes. I raised my daughter to treat all people with respect no matter how they are, because you don't know what their life is like, but some parents just don't do that. My daughter has Asperger's (high functioning autism). As she's gotten older (she's 13) kids know she's different, they love to make fun of her, do things they know will trigger her. This past October she tried to take her life. Thank God she wasn't successful, she's had therapy for years trying to give her the skills she needs to deal with everyday life, but while in the hospital we also found out she has bipolar also. They fixed her meds, and she was home schooled for the rest of the year. She's doing great, but she never wants to go back to school again, I'll have to deal with that with her when we get closer to the school year. This song honestly brought me to tears, because all I think about is her.
