Markarth has a 1.2% unemployment rate 

Hi everyone. This was by far the largest survey we’ve done and I spent a lot of time editing it down to make it digestible for you. Unlike past surveys, this one had lots of stuff consolidated or edited out to make it as entertaining as possible, including some small parts of the town. The Bureau just wants to ensure you that we did in fact survey the entire town, even if it wasn’t included in the video.

Survey conducted over nine days. Three of which were watching the singular unemployed person drink at the bar non stop

There are tunnels near the bottom a Markarth Which hold homeless people which weren't counted in the survey. These people are unemployed.

"Why is everyone so upset?" "Because they have to work in a mine."

Not every day your direct survey leads to justifying child labor and slavery, Markarth is a hell of a place

5:40 The comedy in this series is so unique. The meta jokes like identifying someone as not applicable because you just killed him never cease to crack me up.

Lynea is a weird character, since she only exists for the Creation Club fishing add-on so the player can go teach her how to fish in exchange for her amulet of Dibella. Her having an amulet of Dibella could imply she's either a member of the local temple or-given that she literally spent all of her time in the bar wearing low-cut clothing-a lady of the night. The former wouldn't make as much sense as I'm assuming priestesses aren't allowed to trade their amulets away for things and remain in the temple. If she's a lady of the night, she could be trying to either get out of the trade or supplement her income with fishing. If either of those are true, she could be considered as employed, but given the fact that the only thing she does is barter her only apparently valuable piece of property in exchange for fishing lessons I'm going to assume she's very much not employed. Her constant presence in a bar does not help her case.

Its so funny hearing you approach the NPCs, they say their line, and you say you're from the Bureau of Labor Statistics

"Hands is a job, right? Mr. Hands, he had a job... Wait, that's something else." I NEARLY SPAT OUT MY DRINK.

"You there! Are you another imperial puppet?" He says, wearing the Imperial crest.

I cannot wait to experience bureaucracy in such a -new and exciting- standard and permitted manner. Such direct statistical information is a privilege to experience.

I can't believe markarth has less than 2 percent unemployment since somebody literally gets stabbed as you enter the city

markarth must be the most densely populated city in the game, and i can think of multiple areas you either missed or just didnt include as well, you missed the tribe of cannibals and the guards in the museum, and im not sure but i think you missed that one slum building as well

prison labour is legal in the us, and does count as slave labour (the 13th amendment explicitly states slave labour is forbidden EXCEPT as punishment for a crime). don't know whether it counts statistics-wise tho.

I don’t know how someone comes up with the idea to make videos about things like labour surveys and restaurant critiques in Skyrim but I’m so glad they’re here

You actually missed something that is crucially important to getting an accurate picture of the employment situation in Markarth - the place called "The Warrens". It's a downtrodden set of halls in the belly of Markarth where the sick, poor, and unemployed are housed. Enumerating this section as well will bring up the unemployment numbers of the city, and also point to some concerning trends in the city - the poor, sick, and unemployed being shunted away out of sight suggests a very grim view on "undesirables" in the city, and in combination with the use of slavery in Cidhna Mine, it seems that while there is enough work for a larger portion of the populace to be employed, the use of slave labor takes jobs aways from those who need them, increasing the rift between the working class and the land owners of Markarth. It also suggests a critical lack of social security systems, despite Markarth being a seemingly very wealthy city.

This video in particular has some great extra editing effects/sound design. Loved the notes when the checks and Xs were being put on the map.

Markarth did it. Even the usually cold and calculated, almost robotic Austin/ bureau became very clear and almost emotional over the brutality and slavery in Markarth. The situation in Markarth is so dire that he became somewhat emotional.

Wow, the production value on these videos was already insane but you keep pushing the bar higher! I love the editing on this one.

It's like an analyst suddenly traveled back in time but trying to proceed his job of collecting unemployment rate data from that era and get shocked how normalized and common child labor is!

The Warrens should probably have been at least mentioned, as it's the slums of the city. While I don't intend to generalize, that's probably where most jobless people would gather.

This makes me want to become an enumerator….. a job where I don’t have to be happy all the time, I can be bored because it’s boring…. But it’s important to know what’s going on in the economic situation

That's right, we're doing a Direct Survey.

It would be very cool if you did this with Morrowind and Oblivion. Maybe Fallout New Vegas also. Great video as always!

Our favorite enumerator in tamriel was _this_ close to discovering the butcher shop at the front entrance in markarth has some, umm, _curious_ meat cuts...

The editing and the cuts are a fun step up in this video, makes it feel lively and that Austin is actually a survey agent.

The original employment survey was the Paranoia mission in Oblivion

Nice work! I noticed you had some extra effects with the editing which I thought was fun! Personally I'd watch an hour of this so the length of it doesn't bother me. As always I would love to see even more Skyrim content! I wish you could do something with all the guilds. It would be fun to see you surveying income or quality of something in the Dark Brother hood.

When the housecarl asks you what you are doing in the throne room and you can respond "I'm looking for work", I thought there would be a comment because that is technically why you are there. Also, you forgot to visit the Warrens, aka the place where all the unemployed people live.

Am I the only one who always avoided Markarth because it always felt like I was hated there? Even without the ridiculous murder plot, NPCs are so grumpy and hostile

one of the major quests in Markarth involves freeing everybody from the mine. obviously the game doesnt go into detail about this but i wonder how it would effect the Markarth economy when one of their number one sources of income is cut off.
