Don't you just love that grand entrance? She said "i'M HERE TO SAY THAT I LOVE BROADWAY AND IF BROADWAY LOVES ME, I LOVE IT EVEN MORE" She bowed gracefully and then she walked in that absolutely beautiful white gown What style. I adore her.

They say that The Queen thinks the world smells of fresh paint - poor Marlene must've gotten sick of the strains of 'Falling in Love Again' everywhere she made an appearance. Still, she is fabulous. I made my annual pilgrimage to her grave in south Berlin last week; a beautiful, quiet place.

A goddess in every sense. Magical, capable of both fine irony and great generosity. Marlene Dietrich always remained a stunning presence both on stage and screen during all of her artistic life. The world has been blessed by her presence in it for nearly a century.

A Goddess on the stage and a Monster in life. Stop idolizing these actors. Besides she is as drunk as the Lord there. I find her pathetic and out of touch in her later years.

@2507YANKEL Thanks for your comment! I think Steven Bach, who mentions Marlene's tripping on stage at the Tonys, probably mistook footage filmed at an awards show in Taormina in 1962 where Marlene wore a similar white dress, as being from the Tony Awards. The footage from the Taormina International Film Awards is used in Maximillian Schell's documentary, "Marlene".

They weren't pulling her offstage. She was only there for 3 minutes and she was deeply moved and responding to the love she was receiving. And as far as the comments about her creating glamour and herself as being fake or false everyone is busy creating themselves and experiencing or moving toward experiencing who they want to be and there is no difference. As Shakespeare said all the world is a stage.

@tvhaugaland Ms Riva apparently misremembered Marlene's stumble at the Tonys, probably confusing it with an appearance at Taormina in 1962, where Marlene did trip when receiving an award (the latter footage is shown in Maximillian Schell's documentary, "Marlene").

When she left the theater after her opening night (at the Palace??) the street by the stage door was so crowded with fans that she couldn't get into her limousine. So, she climbed om top of it and drove off sitting atop the car. It proved so successful that she did that every night.t She sure could put on a show. I went with my boss and his wife and my friend Richie, who I loved, but couldn't say so. I think he loved me too, but he also couldn't say so. Stonewall hadn't happened yet. Memories. I brought along a tape recorder and taped the show. It's long gone now.
@maticbukovac6966
@maticbukovac6966 Год назад
So did you and Richie get a happy ending? :)
@stephenperretti8847
@stephenperretti8847 Год назад
@matic bukavic... No happy ending. We barely touched each other. His mother had built very thick and powerful walls around him, and his brother. No love could survive the effort to overcome that damn wall. Eventually, after our time together was just a memory, Richard ran away from home. He said goodbye to one or two people (not me) and disappeared forever. I spoke with his brother a few years ago and wrote a letter just three years ago. He never returned nor contacted anyone. A vicious mother clutching the hearts of her children destroys even the mere possibility of a life. Ah well.
