I know I may have requested this before. But could you research and make a favorite products video of Maria Montez, the Queen of Technicolor. She was in the movies Arabian Nights and Ali Baba and The Forty Thieves in the 1940s. Thanks.
My mother's best friend Ute's mother Sophia and Marlene attended the same school together the Auguste-Viktoria Girls' School. Going by her nickname Lena for her middle name Magdelena. When ahe was in about 6th grade she combined the Mar from her first name Marie with Lena changing the a to e and Marlene was born. Sophia married and remained in Berlin until her death at 103. She & Marlene remained friends, though Marlene settled in Paris. She and Sophia rest in the same cemetery Städtiche Friedhof III in Berlin. My favorite film would have to be Destry Rides Again also staring my favorite actor of the era James Stewart.
fabulous story. Marlene was an icon, a star and a great woman. Obvious now she was very well educated like your friends mother! Cheers and thanks for sharing
@@Basstractorgirl I did the same thing -- I wouldn't want to accuse her unjustly. This is one of my favourite channels and I like Laura so I wouldn't want to offend.
I love her line in Shanghai Express when someone insults her by saying “Aren’t you the one they call Shanghai Lily?” She slowly raises her eyes up and says “It took more than one man to change my name to Shanghai Lily” She was awesome
Great video. Marlene was so scared of germs. She dicinfected almost everything. When her legs didn't work anymore she went to bed and stayed there for over 10 years. In her apartment in Paris. She cooked food beside her bed. Had a "toilet" in the room. She did not clean herself and refused to let her daughter to wash her bedding. She hold contact with friends on the phone. Reading a lot of news and gossip. One day her grandchild took her up from the bed and sat her down on her couch. Marlene collapsed and died. A sad story. Marlene was never my favourite. But she was a strong woman.
@@SabinaCesar2024 True. I don't know why her grandson thought it was a good idea to make her leave the bed. Saw an interview with him, he did not look sad about it.
Wonderful Video! Marlene is my favourite star! In my opinion she was an amazing women. I love her!!❤ I'm so happy, that I found your channel! Greetings from Germany😉
I have been a devoted fan of hers all my life. Although of a much later generation...the more one learns about her, the more admirable. Cheers from Miami
Thank you so much. I appreciate the time and effort it takes to research and share so much information. I love the vintage look and elegance of the time.
Marlene Dietrich was such a class act. Love that vintage sleigh bells compact you found from the 40"s. I have an old record of hers. In many war time era movies she played a night club singer. Glad Turner Classic Movies channel still plays these movies. I have fallen in love with the Air spun powder. It's so long lasting too. Thanks for leaving the link for Vol De Unit. I definitely think I will enjoy trying this classic fragrance for the adventurous women in me. Great Video, glad I found your channel.
I love this whole entire series! I can’t stop watching! It would be amazing to see if you could dig up anything on Jeanette MacDonald. She was very, very famous and successful for decades but I so rarely see her mentioned on modern lists of Golden Age actresses. My most favorite. ❤️
Another fabulous video Laura. Congratulations on finding that Coty compact! Beautiful. I loved Marlene Dietrich when I was a teen. I found a beauty book in the library by her (1967?) and learned a number of things from this book that had quite an influence on me such as, whenever you are working with your face always use sweeping movements away from the centre to the the edges of your face where your hairline begins. I've always just done this since. There were a few other things she said such as using toner. The book was in full colour with lots of photos and diagrams.
@Cassie Miller You will be pleased to know that I followed your advice. I just took a nearly-hot, soapy shower and deep conditioned my hair. I used baby oil to moisturize (I have sensitive skin) and managed to prettify my nails, mostly, before I ran out of gas. I am feeling dizzy so I am brewing green tea and plan on settling into bed (again) with the TV. How did I do?
@Cassie Miller I feel a lot better today - even ate some eggs and toast. I have a big, gorgeous Russian Blue named Malcolm who is currently fast asleep on my bed. It was nice chatting with you. I hope you are well!
I love your videos! I’ve really become interested in collecting Vintage fragrances because of your channel ❤️ I’ve read online that another one of her favorite fragrances was Elizabeth Arden’s Blue Grass! It’s actually one of my favorite perfumes as well, as my paternal Grandmother wore it (she sadly passed away before I was born, so I wear it in honor of her). It’s very herbal, powdery, and fresh spicy. Reminds me of a nice Lavender soap.
Hey I love watching your videos, I have school tomorrow and I’m really stressed out but your videos make me feel better, maybe you could do a Julie Andrews video ☺️
Wonderful! Thank you for this . I’m a longtime fan of Dietrich . Perhaps Garbo next ? There would be a sweet symmetry to that . P.S. For anyone curious, that tooth removal trick was common for that time , it was referred to as The buckle . Brutal what the studios put their stars through. Same thing with Crawford .
It’s amazing the research you make for every star’s favorite products! By the way Marlene’s second favorite perfume was Bandit by Piguet. It’s a very masculine chipre fragrance intended for women but this one really crosses the line between female and male going into the latter territory. Very dark, woodsy and mossy but sophisticated and with a strong personality just like her!
I loved this video !! 💕 I think I may have said this before but I love Vivien Leigh. She maybe a really nice Hollywood 🌟 star. Gone with the Wind started me and have watched other movies of hers. She has such a natural gorgeous look. 💕
Thank you a lot for this video! Dietrich was unique woman who had a big influence on history of cinema and fashion. My favorite movie is Shanghai express. I think that all of her works with Sternberg was great
I 💗 Marlene Dietrich! She's such an Original daring Legend who paved the Way for the women of Her era to be more than just Beautiful! "💋Falling in Love Again🎶...

Really enjoyed this one. Her autobiography Marlene Dietrich's ABCs is a treat to read of you get a chance. I’m very curious to try the guerlain fragrance now ❤️
Love your videos ! so much fun . I use to have an antique shop & I had that Coty compact .It was a lot of money back then ! You're so cute when you model your clothes too . Very entertaining and educational , look forward to your new vids :-)
I live in Berlin....2 streets away from where Marlene was born and raised. I remember Marlene loving the scent/Perfume called "Pure Violet" because it smelled like Berlin in spring, and you can still get it in Berlin.
Very interesting Laura, as always- I believe my grandmother had a similar type of metal compact that my mom inherited which had that little hinged flap to close off powder-it intrigued me as a girl. I believe it was in a heart shape. It did not have the rouge section, just powder. My grandmother -who was of German heritage, was allergic to LUX Soap! I had never seen a bar of it and didn’t realize it was a “cosmetic” type soap...it was actually a pretty bar and not at all what I imagined after hearing how Grandmother could not use it☺️💕 I love vintage...and it’s amazing how you are able to acquire these old items!!
Marlene’s story from beginning to end is so intriguing! Well worth the while reading. As for her acting and singing... well thank goodness she looked great 👍🤗
I’m from Berlin, Marlenes hometown (well, city), and I have always admired her. She was offered the position of top star in Germany by the nazi party, but she refused. She could have easily accepted especially because her Hollywood career was dwindling, but she stuck to her morals as opposed to so so many other Germans. Her grave is actually very close to my apartment and I’ve visited once on a walk and someone had left a jack Daniels bottle with a flower, an empty cigarette package, and a letter addressed to her. Here in Berlin she is widely adored. Thank you for this great Video ❤️😘
Sydney Guillarof was a famous hairdresser to the stars. He wrote a book. Alexandra of Paris, Ben Nye, Edith Head and Ori Kelly are worth looking into. Keep ip the good work. Happy New Year.
Hello Laura 🤗 So happy to watch this video of the great Marlene Dietrich "Die blaue engel "💋💄 one of my favourite stars of all the times and she knows how to wear a elegant nice smoking with so much style 🎩👠😍
Have you done Vivian Leigh? If not I would LOVE that one. I’ve already asked for Pearl Bailey but also Josephine Baker! Odd request but I would love one on Clark Gable. He was very handsome when he played with Jean Harlow. Would love to know more about his camera ready tricks
Loved her as Frenchie in Destry Rides Again. It was fun, she was badass and it was actually on of the first movies that turned me onto classic film all the way back in middle school
The compact is so beautiful. These days, more beauty companies should be making metal packaging which can be used permanently, with replacements slotted in, rather than the disposable plastic which even the luxury brands seem to favour. Thank you for the video!
I love it can you please do Pattie Boyd and Twiggy. I just saw someone who said Maria Felix do her as well please. She was known as one of the most beautiful women in all of Mexico and Latin America.
