Absolutely without a doubt, these days people can research anything from Google at their fingertips.. young heads need to look up marl and see just how inpactful he was ad still is in hiphop.. I really and truly wish our pioneers got far more love and appreciation then they occasionally get.

I think to really appreciate what Marley did, you had to be the right age and heard it when it first came out. Everything is in the context of what was happening when it came out. If you’re a young person and hearing this for the first time, you might be able to appreciate it but not in the way it was perceived when it first came out. Like Eric B is President might not sound like an impressive beat now, but when it first came out it was like “what’s that?!” You never heard anything like it before. That song was a giant step in the evolution of Hip Hop.

Marley just had a different ear for production that I've yet to see a 2nd coming of. Just looking at all the records blended for Around the way Girl. Still bangs in 2022 like it did in the 90s. That's why I truly feel HIP HOP producers and artists truly need to make that divide between that quality over what's out now. These new cats need to create their own genre and learn to share the music atmosphere. Shouldn't be all trap now! It's funny how I saw a post from one of these younger rappers who was mad about other artists releasing their projects on the day he was releasing his? It shows they can't even handle competition.

Well Hip Hop was ours then, now it's not so exec's make this lolly pop sound so they can just throw a new face behind their junk at will, to think how many generational talents were found 80's 90's they not going to do that any more they just copy & past the sound they force us to listen to all day on the radio they have their own factory line of junk going now just throw a new face every few years behind the same sound & all the top OG's sold out and play flunky to the suits

I was hoping LA LA and On The Real was on here. Those two tracks have always stuck out to me, as some of the dopest beats ever made. I know the samples from both, and they weren't that difficult to make, but his ear was the gem, because he heard something in those samples, and made a whole new vibe, that was different than the original sample. He turned some soul music into some grimy gutta type NY East Coast boom bap. Then having CNN and Nas on top of those beats, was the icing on the cake. I had On The Real on a mixtape years before Nas dropped the Lost Tapes joint. I'm not sure if that track was on a soundtrack or what, but I always wondered why Nas didn't have that one on an album. I feel like that's one of Nas' best tracks. Screwball had a version of that one before the Lost Tapes, but I don't care what they said on their version, Nas' version was better, and I love Screwball's music. RIP H.O.S.T.Y.L.E..
