Another example of "Hey you're not supposed to be able to shoot that gun at that range!" Good shootin' there NDR. The only longer-than-normal shooting I've done has been with handguns, including a 6" .357. I know Uncle Elmer and a lot of the old-timers used your method of holding the front sight high and using somewhere down the ramp (or base!) as an aiming point, but what felt better to me was picking some spot up & away from the target and using a regular sight picture on that. Although I spoze if it's only sky up there that might be problematic.

Thanks for the info on micro grove. I have a micro grove marlin from aound 1958 and it shoots lead ammo just fine. As a matter of fact thats all I have ever shot is lead.

Excellent shooting NDR. What part of Nevada is that area located? If you don't mind saying. I also don't understand when people say micro grove is not accurate. I own a model 336T in 30-30 with a 18" micro grove barrel. Bought new in 1983. All I shoot now are coated cast bullets. It hits everything its pointed at. Your videos have great content. Looking forward to your next video Brother!

The receiver is drilled and tapped. Nothing wrong with your suggestion but If I was to go that route it would be a 1.5X4. But I pride myself on being able to pickup any setup and not embarrassing myself. At the range when I am next to somebody with there high tech guns and I am standing there with 1800s technology and beating on my target at 300 yards offhand. And they cant do it with there 21st century technology I figure its best to save and spend my money on ammo so I can practice more. Besides its fun watching them get frustrated. NDR

I am looking seriously at the Ruger Redhawk .357 and the Marlin lever .357. Goal is having a revolver and a lever gun shooting the same cartridges. Black Bears are common here in NC on the trails I hike. I am very interested in your cast loads you used in your video. Everything I have researched for bear defense is to use a solid cast flat tip cartridge. I am sure your loads could drop a bear, hog or deer no problem. What do you recommend?

The bullet I am using in the video is the Lee C358-200-RF. I am using a lead similar to Lyman #2 and weighs 197gr. The bullet is meant for the 35 Remington. www.midwayusa.com/product/1016831934?pid=573077 I am powder coating the bullet and NOT using a gas check. I am crimping on the O-Jive slightly. I was worried it would push back in while in the tube as I was shooting but after doing some testing the OAL never seems to decrease. I recently bought the Lyman 195gr Round nose. www.midwayusa.com/product/1010246169?pid=766200 I am going to give it a try and if I like it It will become my bullet of choice. I am using Hodgdon LiLGun powder. I am not at max load. Basically when the velocity in my Lever gun hit about 1650fps 1200lbs energy. I got afraid. The load in my 6 inch GP100 is about 1320fps 750lbs.The cases come out of the cylinder real easy. I know I can go faster but I figured that was enough. I think I got the load data out of the Lyman manual. Start low and dont be surprised when it starts delivering. There is a chance I used the load data from Hodgdons web site in the pistol data. They have a listing for the 180gr Nos Partition. I started about 20 percent below that and slowly worked up the load. I would suggest you find a good 180gr bullet and go with there data. I have to wonder what a 158gr SWC would do with LILGun pushing it. Anyway proceed carefully. Back in the 60s when I was a kid.My father had a friend that would take bears with a M1 carbine and a bullet my father designed. NDR

Gosh I really appreciate your feedback and what a treasure trove of information. I am copying your feedback for my notes on the .357. I believe with the Redhawk unfluted cylinder it can handle 158 loads. I love anything you have on .357 Marlin. What an outstanding video,. @@nevadadesertrat267
