So good to hear you talk about etiquette and safety on the dirt and gravel. I used live out on the Great Central Road about 200ks past Docker River, and every winter the bloody tourists would come through and behave like it was the Bruce. Drove me nuts, especially as I was driving between 500 - 1000kms a week. If your towing or going slow, pull over and let people pass! I don't wanna have to roll the dice driving through your dust or have to sit behind you at 70 kmh for the next 100ks....oh yeah, and SLOW DOWN when approaching oncoming vehicles! Yer on holiday so you can spare the 30 seconds.

Was out at Birdsville the week before the BRB last year. We had a great time the only issue we had was the thoughtless people that wouldn’t slow down when passing other vehicles. The number of broken windscreens beside the road 🤬

Great vid mate, I'm heading that way next winter. great to see the topography, so flat. Sound track needs to go up a bit.

Great to see the Birdsville Track again. Travelled it in 2019 going to the Big Red Bash. I can honestly say to look out for washouts. We hit one on the Walkings Crossing Track on the way back from the Gig going to Inaminka. Bugger me caused a few issues. Driving as 2008 Prado Grande and bent my stub axel that the wheel was wedged against it. You realise how remote you are when you breakdown in this part of the world. Lucky to have coverage (one bar) managed to get a tray to come and get us on a 1000klm round trip from Copley for the weekend then on to Port Augusta where we were stuck fro 5 days waiting for parts. Club 4x4 were brilliant covered everytthing including accommodation in PA for the week. Not quite the end to the holiday that we were expecting. Had planned a week through the Flinders. As I said just a warning to drive safely and maybe have a plan if things go astray. Beautiful country but very very remote. Have fun, love the vids.

Thanks Anthony. Great video. Heading that way soon with our small van so gives me an idea of the condition of the road. More comfortable with the decision to include it in our journey.

Nice run these days, it seems everyone is doing it. My wife and I did a Simpson run back in 94 in a SWB BJ40. Mate things have changed, from what I can recall, the Birdsville track was full of corrugations, nasty ruts covered with bulldust, washouts and many sandy sections for miles at a time. Those were the days lol.

Just did this the last 2,5 days with a campervan. The worst experience I ever had while travelling. Most horrible road I can imagine. Rocks everywhere. Constant anxiety of blowing a tire on a rock. Lose sand and most of the road was like a washing board. So it feels like you are in a vibrator for hours on end. You can’t go faster then 20 km an hour most of the time. Never ever again 😅.

Hi Anthony , quick question. Do you use the center diff lock while driving the corrugated roads or just run in normal high range AWD?

Yes

I drove from Betoota to Birdsville last year in the 150 after a night of storms. Had to engage centre diff lock, as it was like driving through red porridge. However, I wasn’t aware it was advisable to use it on normal dirt roads, corrugated or otherwise. Thoughts, as a few of us are doing that area and part of the Simpson next month.
