I really recommend you to watch Gabriel Al Romani, he is a counsellor and a principal in Malaysia who has lots of experience talking to muslims and he has lots of great videos and information about intimacy, marriage, family dynamics. Talking about intimacy is still very taboo in many muslim communities but it is so important to learn about.

In my environment I always feel like I am too strict regarding my life as a Muslim, so it's just wonderfully reassuring to see a community of people who are fuced on the same thing as myself. I feel like my surroundings, as in the people around me, are soooo far from Islam and they make it seem normal, as if wanting to follow the simple rulings is extreme. I have to consistently and consciously work on listening to like-minded people. Living in a western country that in no way respects Islam is really hard sometimes. 🧸🤎

You can suggest while in the process of being intimate. If this is too awkward or embarrassing for you, another way is take his hand(s) and show him how you would like to be touched. And give him a positive reaction when he does so so he understands how to please you in the future. Small gestures go a long way. Remember, he is not a mind reader. It's ok to be shy but not to the point you can't communicate with your spouse. Barakallhu feek.

If you're looking for communities to settle in, even outside of big cities, do a scan of the area's grocery stores and restaurants. Where there are Hispanic and/or Asian groceries, or Arabic ones, and restaurants offering non-white food, there tend to be concentrated immigrant presence, and that's a really good area to live in and more likely one where you'll find a faith community as well. I also think at the root of love is our understanding of ourselves. If you look at yourself negatively and harshly, if you speak to yourself in a cruel way, then you're likely to think that kind of behavior in your partner is right, or that they must despise you because you ARE despicable.....and you end up accepting mistreatment because that's what you think of as truth and love.
