Yes, it was really eyeopening, especially the example he gave of watching "The Notebook". It never occurred to me that asexual people might find others expressing romance to be bothersome. It definitely makes sense though so I'm happy he talked about it. 😊

@@kellyclassen3770 You mixed up asexuals and aromantic there friend. Asexual people are not sexually attracted to people, aromantic people are not romantically attracted to people. So asexuality doesn't really mean someone would find people expressing romance bothersome, as that'd be like saying gay people might find it bothersome to see people expressing romance. Gay people might find straight romance bothersome (especially when toxic and homophobic), and asexuals might find sexual romance bothersome (especially when toxic and sex-focused), but it doesn't mean either sexuality are particularly unlikely to like romance on the whole. As Dr Kirk said, you can be both at the same time, or only one, they're not interchangable. So my ex is asexual and aromantic, another ex is asexual and romantic, and I'm asexual and unsure about the romantic side (I'm very deeply loving and like romantic relationships but also have never 'fallen in love' I just love *shrugs*). Anyway, hope that helps clear up the comparisons and differences :)

Hannah G I feel bad for Michael, I think Meka’s very direct and confrontational attitude with him was a really difficult thing for him and bad match. I liked Meka with the women, she seems like a great person. I think Michael seems like he could use the help of a therapist to heal some damage from his past that seems to be hurting him very much today. Did you notice how much he mentions his mother leaving him and his aunt adopting him? I think he is sensitive and wants love and acceptance.

Sorry but job?? We are not talking about teens. Things are changing fast, and now even if a woman is not working at an age everyone is doing it is seem as lazy and not good protect.

I agree with you. I think hounding someone about when and if they will fall in love with you is a only going to turn them off. I watched the show and really liked Derek and felt that there was no way that Katie was a mental health professional due to her behavior. I think if Dr. Honda continues to watch he may see Miss Katie in a different light.

laura laibach Mental health professionals are humans too, born into all kinds of circumstances, experiencing their own traumas, and trying to function in a society with all kinds of contradictory expectations and standards. Why expect people of a certain profession to act any differently than anyone else?

Right. You just live in the moment with them. And show them what love is and one day they will feel love. As long as he is showing how he feels I wouldn't need the words.

Bianca B. I was expecting her to act like a mature adult and if she IS a mental health professional I would imagine she would have the additional benefit of her educational background and training. Keep in mind that my opinion and comment is based on the person I saw on the show not on this particular clip.

Not to mention if you force someone to say it it feels manufactured and not real, plus he might not even mean it he’s just saying it to make you happy. Love is something that develops over time, “love at first sight” is a red flag in my opinion, and so is saying it too soon especially if you don’t feel it

Maybe you're aromantic, maybe you're not even. People have different clocks, you don't need to live on other people's agenda and timeline. My boyfriend was past his mid thirties, didn't want kids, didn't want to get married, he thought he would stay alone forever. Then got a little feeling he wanted to try to be with someone. We met, gave it a try and we stuck together, in a good way. We are inseparable as he says. Whatever feels right for you is what you have to do. If you never develop that feeling, that's fine too.

I think books (fiction) but especially movies are the worst references to use to learn about romantic love. And there’s a chance that you can’t help it and I get that. Do not rush it that’s all I’m saying. Plus, not all 25 younger or older even understand what love is just because they say they have been in love before. Just my opinion.

Being in love make you feel high. Its a rush. If your not into drugs may not be for you. The chemicals between us. It can age you to if it goes sour. The good die young. Take this with a grain of salt.

@@kmp820 I absolutely agree about movies and other media being the worst references to learn what love is and how it feels. I feel like it also puts really unrealistic and unhealthy expectations/definitions towards love. I still remember feeling healthy love with a partner for the first time and being so concerned that it was somehow "bad". I feel it sets a terrible example, especially for people who have had a lot of trauma in their childhoods.

@@kittyscat8905 everyone feels love differently. Which is precisely why it's not quantifiable, defined or easily studied. If everyone felt it as a rush or like a reaction to a drug things would be much more simple to understand. It is always fascinating to hear others share how they experience the feeling of love.

Yeah I agree it's so dumb. They get married, sure, that's the gimmick, but then it's just a dating show when they can decide to break up. Being married doesn't change the way these people navigate an early dating relationship except for maybe add pressure

Maybe that's why he signed up, thinking like, if nothing else has worked maybe immediate marriage is the way to go 😂

It seems kind of reckless- he doesn't prioritize love in ways that many other people do and should their relationship not work out, Katie may be left with larger emotional wounds, feeling as though she "didn't make the cut". I don't blame her for being a bit insecure- every little hiccup might start feeling like a test

This would be fabulous. I did a stand up routine about unhealthy "love songs" a few years ago. The only healthy song Ive heard is Go Your Own Way by Fleetwood Mac. How much do songs affect our actual behavior?
