Marriott Beach Vacation Club, Mai Khao, Phuket, is not a hotel! However, it is connected with a nice JW Marriott, Mai Khao, Phuket, which is a few minutes ride in the club/hotel buggy (gold cart).
So, first things first! Marriott Bonvoy members will earn elite night credits for their stay (booked via a qualifying agent or direct) and Marriott Bonvoy points.
However, elite members (Platinum, Titanium and Ambassador) will not receive complimentary room upgrades, late checkout and free breakfast (unless the room and breakfast rate was booked).
Also, you cannot use Suite Night Awards (SNAs).
However, as a Titanium Elite member, I received 2 complimentary bottles of Chang beer which were already in my fridge when entering the apartment!
You can purchase breakfast separately, currently 750 THB. However, at the VC, they describe this as a ‘mini’ breakfast - basically not a huge buffet.
The vacation club shares a few facilities with the nearby JW Marriott Hotel such as the restaurant, spa and club activities. You can watch the full review on RU-vid at Luxury Vegan Travel - where I show the club’s activities menu and timetable.
The vacation club has apartments which are very spacious! I stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment which was 1,054 sqf or 98 sqm. It has 2 bathrooms, a kitchen, lounge and dining area, and a terrace/balcony. The 2 bedrooms were a King bed in one room and 2 doubles in the other! There is 1 safe deposit box in the main king bed room. There were 3 TVs, 1 in each bedroom and 1 in the lounge.
Slippers are available on request subject to availability.
Other facilities include, a kettle, toaster, microwave and all the usual kitchen cutlery and utensils. There was also an iron and ironing board, washing machine, tumble dryer and clothes basket.
The VC also has a tennis court, games room containing a lounge area (sofa and TV), pool table and table football, basketball hoop, swimming pools, snook ball and you can hire bikes!
The bell boys can, via the buggy, drop and collect you from JW Marriott where you can access the beach, more restaurants, shows and activities.
I was a solo traveller and found it a little boring as there were not many other solo travellers to talk too and the bar and restaurant staff were not so talkative. I did have a little chat with the lady in the restaurant The lady was very nice (I can’t remember her name sadly) as she gave me a free smoothie with my meal.
I would definitely stay here again if I was to bring family or friends with children, otherwise I would avoid it and choose somewhere like The Renaissance Phuket - which is avolutely amazing - you can watch this video on RU-vid at Luxury Vegan Travel.
At this VC, there is 1 bar and 1 restaurant.
The swimming pool is a good size but you will have to go early if you are wanting to do lanes/lengths.
