For some context, the building being destroyed was the real life Landmark Hotel, they filmed the implosion for the movie. Infact the red things that fly out from the base of the tower were flash charges and flares. So what you're seeing in the movie, minus the falling mini earth, is the actual real life demolition of the Landmark Hotel.
I always wondered about that! You'd assume it'd be a miniature shot given it was in a movie... but the scale of the dust and smoke is just so perfect that it almost couldn't be a miniature.
0:46 - 0:56 Art Land's last words: "Gentlemen... There is no way that we can lose!" Seconds before a Martian Warship blasts his entire tower in half and a replica of the Earth not only flattens him, but it also keeps rolling and falls out of the tower with Art still flattened by it, just to make sure that he's dead. Talk about tempting fate.
28 years since the Landmark was imploded now. Tim Burton did a great job immortalizing the history of the Landmark even in its demolition and after it’s gone.
you've just come to expect that when you go to the movies. somebody could probably shoot a person to death on Live TV, everybody would probably think it was phony blood spurting out of his chest, coz that's pretty much what we expect.
Likely it has that appearance because it's a real demo video with a foreground of people panicking added on to it. So the overlaying of the two scenes looks fake and trips some thing in your mind.
OK, for all you folks trying to tell us this was not "Special Effects", it was a real building, an actual planned implosion of the famous Landmark Hotel in Las Vegas ... *WE KNOW, WE KNOW!!*
1:07 the fact they used a real building to destroy is INSANE! for those wondering controlled demolition inc (CDI) did a controlled demolition on that building just for the movie
No they didn't... They demolished the building to make a parking lot for the Stratosphere casino. The Landmark was tiny and abandoned at that point. Every other 60's casino was demolished in the 90's to make room for bigger casinos. Sure it's is footage of the actual demolition but they didn't demolish it FOR the movie, the production company just smartly saw an opportunity there and requested to film it.
Fun fact: the scene with the building was actually destroyed, a year before the movie they had demolished the building, everything besides the UFO’s was real
I told someone that was watching the movie with me "hey i think that's Jack Nicholson on both roles" and he said to me "dont be stupid" So we let the credits roll until we saw it. Even i was surprised to be right 😂
1:00 beam hits but mr.lands lights are still runnin 1:04 galaxy hotel is imploding but lights still on. Finnally 1:10 lights power off. But look at the news of nov. 1995. Light power. Off quicker. Conspiracy? ???????
After 9/11 watching that building collapse, the round one, there's a part of you thinking that it's not so funny. I was watching live when the second plane plowed into the Twin Tower.

I never watched it, but I heard about the scene. I forgot that it was Mars Attacks and not Star Wars. Assuming it was Star Wars, I assumed that the attack was from the death star. So instead of a UFO in the city, I assumed that the movie only showed the beam coming from outer space, off screen. I'm from Las Vegas and I watched the implosion and the red firework. I even once assumed that it was just a flicker in the movie and that the red firework was also all that can be seen in the City, in the movie. Like the 'beam' were too short to be seen in the movie. From the art of the red beam, I'm surprised they didn't just design a computer animation of the sparks too, instead of using a real firework. I don't like movies like Mars Attacks, Star Wars or Star Trek. But I like movies like Independence Day, Men In Black 1, 2 & 3, and Starship Troopers.
