Here's a comparison between my Marshall 1987x Plexi and the EHX Mig 50
Playing my 1978 Les Paul with Duncan Custom in the bridge. Boost is a Boss SD-1. I am also using a SPL attenuator to keep the volume reasonable. Cab is a 2x12 with a Vin30 and a Redback.

Pretty close. For the 1/4 or less price I would certainly go with the Mig

Yeah the MIG is a real sleeper! One of the best amp deals out there@

wow, the mig sounds very good!

Yeah, it's a really cool amp. Kind of like a cross between a Bassman and a Marshall.

@@billl.4410 I've settled with the bugera 1960 (non infinium for the plexo sound). Sounds idêntical tô the 1959 superlead.

@@onefelibata I've had one of those. Great sounding amp!! Good call.

1987x all the way. I can tell the difference. Why I own the 1987x. Amazing tone out of it.

Dig the playing..... Definitely prefer the Plexi over the EH.... Any mods? Bright cap? its hard to tell on my computer, it sounds like the channels are bridged.
@billl.4410
@billl.4410 Год назад
No mods and no channel bridging. I was using an attenuator here (SPL Reducer) which does affect the tone a bit. The Plexi takes the attenuator better than the EHX. Without the attenuator they're a bit closer but the Marshall still wins.

Yeah, but a good bargain at $700 over the pricier Plexi.

@@billl.4410 An attenuator is a must with a Plexi.... I tried a master volume mod on one of my 1987x's and I wasn't thrilled. It seemed to lose something with the mv, so I took it out and went back to the attenuator. I have the Weber mass lite which seems to get along with my Plexis...

@Ken I agree. This amp has a master volume mod, which sounds pretty good, but for this clip I used the attenuator so both amps would have the same attenuation source. As for master volume mods, there are several different ways to do, I like the "Lar-Mar Type 2" that was designed by Ken Fisher. But ultimately, running the amp wide open and using the attenuator does yield better results, so yes I agree with you.

Watching on the Kindle and the Marshall wins in this situation. Mig is virtually identical (mids sound different). Not sure you'd hear the difference in a mix or on-stage. I wanted a Mig from when Sovtek launched them, but I've got an old Carlsbro that has that sound.

thank you for watching and for your comment. Carlsbros are absolute sleepers. They're hard to find here in the US, but they sound great!

Seems slightly more headroom and bite with the Marshall over the Mig 50, but a nominal enough difference in a live setting that no one can tell.

I wonder what the Mig would sound like with el34s? Or Kt66s?
@billl.4410

I'm planning to do that test eventually. I think EL34s would be cool with this amp
@goVLDaniel

U can use *KT-66* , that more clarity & tight than *6П3С-Е (6L6/5881)* But u need to simple correct *bias* . This amp have big transformer (New handmade by Leonid Musaev Sovtek Mig-50 _made in Russia_ model 001 .I don't know about electro-harmonix). Sometimes I use this head with external amp with *EL34* (R&R power 150 50W-EL34) & sound very good, juicy and power low end. That's better then 6П3С-Е.

These types of amps need to be on for at least half an hour to get the tubes hot to hear them at their best.

The most interesting thing is that MIG can now be bought new for only $400 The creator of the MIG amplifier now lives in Russia and continues to produce these amplifiers.
