Marvelous 'Marshmallow' was one of my go to herbs during my covid experience. I made a quart at a time of cool over night infusion and the coolness was soothing. I made a hot mullein tea infusion, cooled it down and then mixed it with the cool marshmallow infusion. I think I also added honey to the cool drink. Anyways thank you for inspiring me and many others. Take care and be well.
I actually use marshmallow root infusions for dry tangled hair. I also combine it with slippery elm and create detangling creams and leave in conditioners for my family and myself. We have a house full of curly heads. Lol❤❤❤ I would love to use this internally! thank you so much for sharing all your knowledge! You inspire me to take my herbal studies to the next level!!
That's so cool! Do you make a hair rinse for it? How do you make a cream with it? I could really use a good detangling cream and a conditioner for my kids' hair lol!
I live on Cape Cod Massachusetts and in late August there is a huge marsh near me that is full of Marshmallow flowers in full bloom. It is breathtakingly beautiful! Loved hearing all about Marshmallow. I enjoy cold infused Marshmallow root tea. It tastes pretty good! Coincidentally Marshmallow was in my CSA this week. Thanks, Rosalee! I always enjoy your videos; educationa and fun!
Thank you for his video and all the wonderful information. I have just potted up seedlings of the lovely white mallow. I have 7 Marshmallows in varying sizes of pots and am looking forward to using the roots late in the season. I have ordered mallow neglect as it grows extremely well here in Ireland. I am looking forward to using the Mallow family to help my digestion. I have sent off for Marshmallow root and will be making tea as per your instructions.
I listen to your podcast, but I’m enjoying the visuals and garden background. 😍 Thank you and your team for the resources! I ordered some marshmallow seeds and look forward to learning about this plant.
Hello Rosalee. New to your channel. I take Marshmallow tea, following gallbladder surgery. I will try to grow the herb. I asked you regarding Milk Thistle previously today. Also ordered your Alchemy of Herbs book. ~ Diane
this is absolutely wonderful information, terrifically presented. thank you, rosalee! i'm wondering how you make a tea with marshmallow powder. is it made the same way as you would using the root? thank you again!!
Yes, you can weigh the powder when recipes give a weight. Use a fine mesh strainer (or leave the last little bit of tea with all the powder for the plants). Cheers, Karin Rose
Thank you for sharing all your knowledge of herbs, wish I had room in this 65 yr old brain to remember all of it. Maybe I should be drinking a beneficial tea for that. I live on the shore in Maryland, wild hibiscus grows along the rd and in the marsh. I don't know if that has benefits, as i have no idea the botanical name for those.
I think one of the best ways to remember herbal information is to learn by doing! That's why I always share recipes. Once you drink marshmallow tea regularly you'll KNOW so much that you won't even have to memorize. Cheers!
I like working with marshmallow leaves too! They aren't quite as slimey but they really shine in tea blend when the other herbs in the tea are also aerial parts.
Great video! I'm having a minor gastritis flareup but also dealing with mucus in lungs can I use Marshmallow root or will that make my lungs worse as they are already fighting dampness? Could you suggest another alternate? I was using Slippery elm 1tsp but end up with loose stools. Thanks❤
Ive made slippery elm from Starwest and was able to prepare it to get just the right consistency but then after two days I found out I was allergic to it and I had to stop as everything was out of control. I have severe acid reflux. I had old slippery elm from Frontier in the root herb form from a year ago. I tried to see if it would work in the cold infusion but no thickening and really no slipperiness so that it doesn't soothe whatsoever. I had also just ordered marshmallow root powder not knowing better to get the root form at that time. I also tried that which would have been fresher, it was from starwest. Over 12 hours and no thickening. Maybe it's the amount but I'm frustrated. Any tips or tips on sure sources.
Awww, thanks for noticing the clothing - I entertain myself with it. :) Marshmallow can help with dry constipation. Chia seeds with lots of liquid can also be nice.
Hi! Thanks for your interest! That book is titled, Alchemy of Herbs, and is available wherever books are sold. You can order online or ask your local bookstore to order it in for you. Enjoy!
Rosalee, you mentioned a hot infusion of Marshmallow extracts starches rather than mucilage. Are these starches beneficial as a prebiotic or should we just sick with the cold infusion?
I prefer the cold infusion but there are herbalists who prefer the decoction. I think it's worth trying both. I don't know of any studies specifically looking at constituents between the two or efficacy between the two. It's up to us to try it out and decide. I'll be curious to hear what you think!
Hello, I enjoyed the information here. I am having a burning sensation in my mouth /tongue and it is pretty uncomfortable. Would this tea help? And are powders the same as the root?
When I was anemic I had an uncomfortable tongue. How are your iron reserves and your B12 and other things necessary for red blood cells? I think any demulcent would help your burning sensation Is your tongue red too? Cooling herbs might help the burning sensation too.
Plz can you tell me how to use it on a bedsore?! Some other guy said it could be used as a warm compress on a bedsore, is this true because you say the best was as using it cold.
A warm compress in this case sounds great because the warmth will help stimulate circulation to the area which is crucial for healing. When you make marshmallow has a cold infusion it has more mucilage, but the warm infusion is also quite medicinal.
Do you know if Malva neglecta (Common Dwarf Mallow) has the same properties as the traditional marshmallow? It grows as a weed around here and I'm pulling it up anyways. Might as well use them!
You have used your experience to create a wonderful video for human welfare. Thank you very much. I invite you to our country. You will be a guest in my house, I invite you on behalf of my family.
I have noticed that whenever I take marshmallow internally, I end up with tender breasts and this last time my period started a week early. Can you shed any light on why this may be? I love the idea of the plant...I do not enjoy what it does to me. Haha
Interesting! I am sorry to hear that's the case. I am not aware of marshmallow having hormonal effects. But now I will keep my eyes out for more about this.
I took it for Institual Cystitis. It did reduce the severe pain but It weaken a medication that I was taken for another condition and I went into withdrawal.. Be careful. There wash no mention of avoiding it for that drug.
Is marshmallow safe for use internally during pregnancy? It seems like it would be safe... Maybe you could do a video listing herbs that are safe for pregnancy. So many sources online say almost all herbs are not safe, but I am sure it is just lack of research and common sense
