A lot of you tend to think you know everything I'm pretty sure she is not hurting maybe you should learn Martha and the vandellas history before you just jump right and say anything negative.

In 1963, Martha's big year, HDH were also working with Marvin Gaye, Marvelettes, Mary Wells, and the Supremes. They didn't work exclusively with any one act. Even in 1964 they produced the 4 tops, Mary wells and Martha, even tho "Jimmy mack" was in the vault til 1967.

Actually there are 2 versions of Jimmy Mack. The original was the 1964 version with Annette and the 1967 hit version with Betty

The Marvelettes were the first to put HDH on the charts with Locking Up My Heart a few weeks later The Vandellas droped Come Get These Memories.

I mean HDH got top 10 hits with The Vandellas but they got # 1 songs with The Supremes

Martha never understood that it was the business of the record company (MOTOWN) to get hits for ALL OF THEIR CONTRACTED ACTS. I'm sure some of Martha's comments are tongue and cheek . But to be clear, Diana Ross & The Supremes had 12 # 1's , several #2, top 5 and top 10 hits. They were unbeatable.

@@juniebe4 You missed my entire point. Diana Ross leading The Supremes scored more than just the 10 #1's with HDH that Martha cited. The Supremes (which featured Diana for all their #1's) continued to score major hits even without HDH (unlike the Vandellas). Martha's logic that The Supremes only had hits because they somehow "took" HDH from The Vandellas is a fallacy.

After all of those years and she’s still throwing shade. Berry was the one who said the girls(the Supremes) were the top priority of the company. He pulled Holland Dozier Holland to write for the Supremes. He brought in Maxine Powell etiquette coach and the top designers. He knew the Supremes could open doors and put the company on the map.

Also, it bears mentioning that HDH were never exclusive to the Vandellas. The same month COME AND GET THESE MEMORIES was released, HDH's LOCKING UP MY HEART by the Marvelettes was also released. HDH wrote for everyone at the company, from the Vandellas to the Miracles to the Four Tops and of course, the Supremes, not to mention many others.

Throwing shade? She specifically says in this clip she couldn't be mad at the Supremes because they opened doors for everyone at Motown. I think underneath it all, her point is simply that when HDH were writing and producing the Vandellas, they were writing and producing others. Why couldn't they write and produce both girl groups?

You know it's sad that half of you think she is throwing shade and thinking she is jealous Martha has the right to tell her and the vandellas story remember the supremes were the biggest female and they had 12 #1 hits but let's not forget that berry and Motown were only focused on Diana and getting her to solo stardom berry pushed a lot of good talent to the side and it's sad how you Diana Ross stans are always bring shade and the word jealousy when people back then have dealed with diana and berry's actions. And way before the supremes the marvelettes Barrett Strong Martha and the vandellas Mary wells and other groups gave Motown some of their first number 1 hits.

Martha is full of crap. First of all, the reason The Supremes worked so often with Holland Dozier Holland‘s because they sold so much more than Martha and the Vandellas dead. Not only did the supreme singles outsell Martha’s by a large margin, but the Supremes albums sold 100 times more than Martha‘s. The public spoke loudly as a preferred. But Martha is leaving out that the producers also worked with the four tops and had much more success than they did with Martha. Martha is also ignoring the fact that she only had two top 10 records. When the Supremes began their string of number ones . The producers were still working with Martha at the same time, but the records they did with Martha were nowhere near as big. It’s low class of Martha to be leading people astray with incorrect facts

@@moogooguypan2514 No. YOU'RE full of it. You obviously don't know the history NOR listened to the interview. By June '64, the Supremes were the only girl group produced by HDH. Martha's point is after they started working with the Supremes, they didn't work with the Vandellas anymore. Which is super weird but could ONLY be accomplish through pillow talk and back sliding. Let's not forget Ross screwed her way to a hit. First Smokey, that didn't work. Then Eddie Holland, but his wife almost whopped Ross butt for her advances. Get up on your history. Both Martha AND Mary Wilson have books out.

The Supremes Were Pop Singers, Of Course They Sold More Songs.. Martha and The Vandellas and The Marvelettes Were Soul Singers, They Did Well In The R&B and Soul..

It was known at Motown that Martha Reeves and the Vandellas as well as the Marvelettes were far more "talent superior" than that of the Supremes. However, the Supremes supposedly had more of a "crossover" look and appeal than the other girl groups. As a result of that more money and time got invested in them than that of Martha Reeves and the Vandellas or the Marvelettes. Berry Gordy and the Motown staff tried a variety of different things with the Supremes. This was a result of more time and money at work. Martha Reeves and the Vandellas or the Marvelettes did not receive this type of attention at all. although they were far more talented. With the Supremes it paid off in some ways and other ways it did not. As time progressed with the Supremes Berry Gordy was "priming" Diana Ross for a solo career and neglected the "late Mary Wilson and Cindy Birdsong.

I guess people meaning the toxic Diana ross Stan's don't expect other Motown artists to say what happened to them at Motown or tell their stories either because when it involves Diana they get really really nasty and evil when it comes to a woman who doesn't even pay them any attention a woman they don't even know personally. But this goes for a lot of toxic people on the internet they did same thing to Gladys knight when she talked about the tour Diana got her and the pips put off of they attacked her and bashed her i guess because they feel like it happened a long long time ago that it can't be talked about.

@@AlkalineInsides In Motown, Gordy assigned certain writers and producers to groups if they could make things happen for them. HDH did good things for Martha, and once they hit with The Supremes, they were theirs.
