Martial Arts Instructor Reacts: Ninja: Ip Man 4 - Karate Champion Vs Bruce Lee
Ip Man 4: The Finale is a 2019 martial arts film directed by Wilson Yip and produced by Raymond Wong. It is the fourth and final film in the Ip Man film series, which is loosely based on the life of the Wing Chun grandmaster of the same name, and features Donnie Yen in the title role.

Wait, are you telling me as a martial arts instructor that you and your students don’t walk the streets at night in karate uniforms looking to start trouble with gangs of wing chun nerds? I don’t know man… if that’s not normal, what am I doing with my life?

Bruce was once asked during an interview how he would feel facing an opponent with a knife. He shook his head and said he would pity his opponent because a man with a weapon becomes fixated on the weapon and loses sight of the rest of his natural weapons. I've wondered if the shaking of his head when the nunchucks came out was a nod to that interview.

I noticed that "Bruce Lee" held his nunchuck close to the chain. That's how I was taught to hold them for better control, but the real Bruce Lee held nunchucks clear down at the bottom for more power. Half the fun of studying martial arts is watching films and finding every flaw in the fight choreography. :)

I wore my karate gi to a restaurant (slightly fancier than a diner but not much) once, and to corner shops a few times... but this was when I was a preteen karate student with Dad taking me to those places on the way home from lessons, not wearing it just to show off that I do karate. Also I didn't pick fights with other styles to try and prove mine was better. My approach was - and still is - trying to show my opponent concepts their art doesn't teach, and trying to see things in their moves that I wasn't learning at my dojo. Unless someone's actively trying to cause harm, the goal of a fight is to teach and learn, not to win or lose.

@@wudangmasterlee8123 I'm not saying that Ip Man was a saint or that Bruce Lee should be canonized, I'm just presenting facts. @@eduardocrestani2454 Not only that, but IpMan never even fought, not a single recorded fight or acceptance of a challenge. The light kick was originally done by Bruce Lee in a television series. The series was The Green Hornet, Bruce wore a mask and was the Green Hornet's driver. There was going to be a fight scene in a basement or warehouse and Bruce improvised the overhead light kick just as the fight was going to start. I enjoyed the first 2 Ip Man movies more than the follow on. Have you done anything on Sonny Chiba? He was Japanese, practiced a "hard" style karate, and was one of the first martial artist in movies. Later he was an adviser and choreographer for many U.S. movies.

The movie is all pretty fictionalized so them adding Bruce using that style earlier in his life makes some sense. It's just like that older Dragon: Bruce Lee story movie where they protrayed him always using jeet kun do throughout his entire lifetime.

Not really... Bruce's exposure to boxing happened very early on. He was a championship boxer in the late 50s in Hong Kong.

Remember Bruce Lee's famous quote. "The best style is no style." Once you use a style you confine yourself to it and your opponent will be able to read you. "Be like water" Shape yourself to the task at hand. If the moment requires a haymaker punch then do it. Knowing as much as possible is good. But practice makes perfect and knowing to much will slow down the process of learning the important things. Jeet Kune Do is the basis of what is important to learn first. "Fear not the man who has practiced 10000 kicks once. Fear the man who has practiced one kick 10000 times" Striking a balance between these two methods is the key to mastering martial arts.

Lol showing off infront of Bruce Lee with nunchaku is like showing off with a football infront of Ronaldo/ Messi. Idk but that part was really funny 😝

I strongly urge you to watch the fights in Once Upon a Time in Shanghai. It stars Phillip Ng (who played as Bruce Lee in Birth of The Dragon) and Andy On (he fought Donnie Yen in Special ID). This movie is apparently a remake of the Shaw Bros. movie The Boxer From Shantung, just like how the movie Hero is (the 1997 movie not Jet Li’s Hero) the fight scenes were choreographed by Sammo Hung last I checked (he also stars in the movie too)

Because the storyline talks about them meeting each others after the long beach karate event at a nearby restaurant. That's why they wear their gears.

Want to preface this with "as always you're making great content and I appreciate the reactions to wing chun films!" just in case you don't care about the Wing Chun nerd crap spiel I'm about to go into :p Leung Ting was a great-grandstudent of Yip Man. He learned from Cheung Pak who learned from Leung Sheung (who was Yip Man's senior-most disciple). Leung Ting did study with Yip Man, but much later, so even if he had been a direct student, he still wouldn't be anywhere near the most senior by around 20 years. That said, this is dumb wing chun drama that no one else cares about, Leung Sifu is an accomplished instructor regardless of where he falls on the tree, and I do wanna say as always you're making great content and I appreciate the reactions to wing chun films!

yes some of thise punches were haymakers but around this time when Bruce had his own school he did study both boxing and fencing for technique and style. So I like nod to that.
